Harvey- Editor/Advertising Manager WINNER OF SIX DROMEDARY AWARDS Houlton Welcomes Anah Shriners Thursday, June 14th witnessed a virtual take-over of the Houlton area by Anah Shriners and their Ladies. The Anah Shriners and their Ladies were led by Potentate Anthony “Tony” Bowers where locations such as the Shiretown Inn & Suites, the VA JO WA Golf Course, the Southern Aroostook Agricultural Museum, and Millar Arena were turned into Shrine activity centers for the day. This assembly did not happen on the spur-of-the-moment, A dedicated committee of Nobles and Ladies planned well ahead to make all the arrangements work well. Thursday was registration day that culminated in a cribbage tournament. A good time was had by all as the sound of 15-2, 15-4, 15-6, or whatever filled the air. Winners will be announced if they become available in time. Friday hosted a men’s and ladies golf tournament at the VA JO WA Golf Course. (Details of the tournament are covered elsewhere in an article by Noble George Watson who coordinated the tournament.) The evening featured dinner of chicken or steak followed by a dance to D J Shawn Ripley at Millar Arena. Saturday began early with the opening of the Temple by Potentate Anthony “Tony” Bowers at the podium. A day long scavenger hunt was set up and handled by First Lady Carmel Bowers. The First and Second Sections performed their Ritual and Imitation routines to the delight of the onlookers and benefit of a large group of candidates of the Guy F. Chapmen Class. During the noon hour a Ladies luncheon was hosted by Lady Carmel Bowers at the Southern Aroostook Agricultural Museum which was followed by an excellent parade. Camel’s milk was available after the parade with a social hour at Millar Arena followed by a Lobster or Steak feed. The balance of the evening was used for dancing to D J Shawn Ripley. Candidates inducted are listed on page 8 with their top-line signers and home town.

DIRECTORS STAff Noble Dave Weaver Reporter On Thursday, the 17th of May, the Direc- tors Staff had a meeting at the Shrine Cen- ter again with the Bangor/Brewer Shrine Club. This was the Shrine Club’s annual steak feed and a large group of Nobles and Master Masons attended. Twelve Directors were present and we were honored to have ANAH’s Director of the Temple, Andy Constantine and High Priest and Prophet Jesse Thomas attend as well. Dean didn’t have a lot of new business to discuss but we did go over our assignments and du- ties for the Ceremonial. Tommy Frost, the The Ladies shown above were an important part of the recent Outreach Clinic Director of Units, brought the new vests held in Presque Isle. I think we made an excellent choice on the color and we are going to look a lot better than we did with the cummerbunds. About the only other topic discussed was our sum- mer picnic coming on Saturday, August 25th. The picnic will be held at Richard and Vickie Otis’s camp on Swan Lake. It’s to be a low key affair; we should prob- ably wear our blue Directors shirts, just to distinguish us from the other friends and family in attendance. The meal will con- sist of hot dogs, hamburgers and anything else that happens to show up. The Divan has been invited and the Potentate said we could borrow a few bottles of spirits from the Aide’s room. The Directors Staff hasn’t had a summer picnic since I’ve been involved with them but it sounds like lots of fun. Let’s all make a huge effort to attend and make this time a big success. Who knows, it could become an annual event. Now for the news of the Ceremonial: We re- ally did look sharp in our new vests and bow ties. We had a great turnout of Nobles and fans attending the parade and the other festivi- ties. The weather was perfect. I’m sure every writer on the Anagram’s staff will write about the Ceremonial so I will only touch on what the Directors accomplished. As you all know, our main duties are to register the candidates and fit them for fezzes. The mezzanine where Proud Supporters of we preformed our duties with the candidates was perfect, although maybe a little too warm. The mezzanine provided us with enough space the Anah Shriners and separate rooms so that the physicals could be performed and room enough to secure the candidates in seclusion until they were needed. We also performed escort duties prescribed by the Director of the Temple. Introductions were Opening 2012 – New office in Bangor announced by our Chief Director to the Divan at the Christmas Tree Shops Plaza! and visiting dignitaries and anyone else that needed to be presented. Spring has finally arrived with summer coming up quickly. The club is in recess for a couple of months so nothing to re- port. A few things about town: John Fernald has gotten his garden in and it hasn’t washed away yet. Heard Robert Fernald was riding around in an uninspected motor vehicle. Tommy Fernald is having prob- lems with the company hearse. Also heard he put too much fertilizer on his lawn and burnt it up. Steve Fernald has been work- ing on repairing lawnmowers. He and Lady Wanda are staying at their camp on Long Pond. I wonder if they’re honey- mooning. Sorry to say I missed Past Po- tentate Geddes Simpson the other morn- ing. I heard he shows up at 10:30 sharp to check on Past Potentate John Fernald. Our daughter, Joy, was home for a few days enjoying the mild weather we were hav- ing. Stopped to check on Noble Gordon Robbins the other day and he’s doing fine. Noble Forrest DeMeyer was in the hospi- tal for a few days, but is home and doing well. Also heard from John Fernald that Noble Bud Bordeaux is doing okay. No- ble Wayne Butler and Lady Phyllis have moved into their chalet on Molasses Pond. Saw Lady Phyllis sporting around in her new convertible. Looks nice, Phyllis-do you let Wayne ride in it? We were sorry to hear of the death of No- ble Putt Walls and extend our sympathies to his family. Tri-County Shrine Club and the Knights of Columbus of Dexter held their 44th Annual Fellowship Night on the 16th of May 2012; this event was held at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Dexter. This annual event was attended by 56 Knights and Shriners. As our speaker that night, we had the Athletic Director of the Uni- versity of Maine, Steve Abbott. The Li- bation Hour, which was ably manned by Libation Master Noble Scott Folsom, who was going solo that night, because his usual partner in crime, Noble Arthur “COOTAH” Watson, was home taking care of his lovely wife, Phyllis. Hope you are well on your way to recovery Phyl- lis. After the Libation Hour, the meet- ing was called to order by Grand Knight John Parola; he welcomed the Shriners to the Hall and had a few comments about the history of the event. Members of the Head Table were introduced; represent- ing the Knights was John Parola, Richard Bilodeau, Lee Hersey and John Deechen. Representing Tri-County Shrine Club was President Doug Dulac, Vice Presi- dent Dan Costain, Secretary David Mos- ley and Chief Rabban of Anah Shriners, Noble F. Lee Kaufman. Hello everyone. Our meeting of June 5th 11 members were present. Alan Norris won the 50/50 drawing, sorry Alan. Let’s give them a nurses, therapists, orthotists, prosthetists, support staff and members of the hand and enjoy the fellowship! Shrine fraternity. UNTIL NEXT TIME, SEE YA! The team works together to provide follow up care to existing patients and to examine prospective patients for future care. Existing patients are monitored for how their orthopaedic condition may or may not be pro- gressing along with their normal growth and development. Patients who were recently operated on at the hospital and have returned home are also seen. Over 2,000 children are seen in outreach clinics each year.

Some of these clinics are held within ninety miles of the hospital while others are held halfway around the world. The facilities in these locations can mirror our own hospital or be a make-shift exam room in an office building with or without electricity. Seeing children and families in their own community provides the medical team with an appreciation and understanding of the environment our patients live in.

Outreach clinics are an extension of our services that take into account the hardships families face with a sick child and the costs associated with travel expenses and time off from work. Additionally, the goodwill out- reach clinics bring to the hospital, the fraternity and to the community at-large is positive and pays dividends many times what the actual clinic costs. Currently outreach clinics are conducted in New York, Maine, U.S. Virgin Islands, Dominican Republic and Cyprus. The hospital will soon expand outreach clinics to include locations in Western and Central Massachusetts and other New England states.

A Young Philanthropist Gives Generously to Shri- ners Hospitals for Children – Boston Submitted by: Shriners Hospitals for Children – Boston, Public Relations

Typically, birthdays are a time for cel- ebration and for kids that means cake and presents. But instead of receiving pres- ents for his birthday, one young philan- thropist made a big decision to donate all of his gifts to the patients at Shriners Hos- pitals for Children – Boston. Justin Demars, a former Shriners’ patient, is a five year old with a giving spirit far beyond his years. Justin first came to Shri- ners when he was 10 months old and suf- fered burns on both hands from touching a steam radiator when he was just learning how to stand. Four years later, he returned with his parents and three siblings to do- nate all the presents he collected at his 5th birthday party. When asked how the idea came about, Justin’s parents said that they encourage their children to learn about giving back at a young age. Justin’s family thought Shriners was the perfect place to do so after the great care Justin received when he was younger. Justin’s father, Chad Demars, reflected on their experience at Shriners saying, “It’s comforting to know that there’s lots of support here for people going through a hard time.” Justin’s donation not only impressed the staff and families at Shriners but it also caught the attention of the local media. During his visit in February, WBZ Radio and WBZ TV came in to interview Jus- tin and his family. In case you missed the
