WIRRAL RAMBLERS

SUNDAY 30th MARCH 2008 (LLANBERIS) A WALK Starting in Llanberis we climb through woods above Llyn Padarn to Dinorwig and continue on paths, lanes and finally a hydro road to Marchlyn Bach Reservoir. From here we climb to Elidir Fach and on to Elidir Fawr. A descent and contour below Mynydd Perfedd leads to Carnedd y Filiast. The ridge is now followed over Mynydd Perfedd and Foel Goch to from where we descend to Llyn y Cwn. After a short descent down Afon Las we contour below Y Garn before a steep descent towards Nant Peris. Before the village we turn to pass through the Dinorwig quarries and descend to Llanberis down old inclines. DISTANCE: 23.5km (14½ miles) 23 POINTS ASCENT 1300m (4250ft) B PLUS WALK Leaving NE from Nant Peris car park (toilets) on A4086, we ascend 300m. steeply and slowly for 45 minutes, then climb more gradually another 350m. over vegetation to the foot of Y Garn and views over the Ogwen Valley/. Undulating north by path via Foel Goch and Mynydd Perfedd (subject to weather), a final ascent SW of 170m. brings the rocky summit of Elidir fawr (924m) for sea views. Descending 750m. by path SW over grass, we turn NW on paths past dramatic quarries (100m. ascent) to reach Llanberis village lakeside coach park. (GR579602). DISTANCE: 13.5km (8½ miles) 16 POINTS ASCENT 1100m (3500ft) B MINUS WALK Starting from Llanberis we climb by way of steps up the zig-zag path at the side of the Vivian Quarry, passing the Anglesey Barracks to reach the top of the quarry. A steady ascent through the Padarn Country Park brings us to the mast at Bigil where we descend into Deiniolen. Skirting the village we pick up an old miners track at Clwt-y-Bont, which we follow to Brynrefail for one of the best views in North Wales. From here we return to the Country Park and, passing through Fachwen, return to Llanberis via the Miners Hospital and Visitor Centre. DISTANCE: 13.5km (8½ miles) 11½ POINTS ASCENT 460m (1500ft)

C WALK From Llanberis we follow the road to Nant Peris. Turning north at the end of Llyn Peris we head uphill to Fron. Following footpaths we pass over the top of the new Power Station and on and up through the disused slate quarries heading for Dinorwig. We now take a minor road downhill to Fachwen and then on to Brynrefail. Crossing the bridge we walk southeast along the road to reach a footpath which will take us alongside Llyn Padarn back to Llanberis.

DISTANCE: 13km (8 miles) 10 POINTS ASCENT 305m (1000ft) Please keep behind your leader at all times
