OWNER'S GFOUP NORTHWEST President Smith called the December meeting to order about 9pm and after wishing everyone a Merry Christmas he adjorned the business meeting so we could get on with the party. There was a good turn out for the Christmas party. The food was all excellent with the exception of Lilo Barofsky's dip. That was super excellent (at least that is my unbiased opinion). After dinner and a bit of gab, there were some slides of various ventures of the club as far'back as the trip to Monterey in 1977 and up to and including the Multnomah Falls outing. There were such memorable stops as Chuck Powers clutch replacement. All in all it iy. ,as a very enjoyable evening. Hope more of you can make it next year. Doug Barofsky won November trivia question which was: The first Morgan possessed an engine made by: a) Anzani, b) Panhard, c) Peugot. The answer was c) Peugot. That rei.'.arded Doug with a badge bar clip. The trivia question for December is: ' ,,'HAT MORGAN MODEL(s) USED A BRITISH BUILT VERSION OF AN ANF}RICAN DESIGNED ENGINE ? Be sure to bring your answer to the trivia question to the January meeting. 4dhich will be Tuesday January 18, 1983, 7:30pm MST at Morgans Corner Resturant. Let us start the new, year right with a big turn out. C'MON IN !!! P.S. If anyone has any Morgan cars, parts, or regalia that they would like to buy, sell, or trade let me know so it can be put in the newsletter. Also if anyone has any technical information, helpful hints, stories, drawings, etc. that you feel the membership would like please bring them to a meeting or send them to me. My adderess is P.O. If.anyone has had a reason recently to call a local parts shop to try to obtain a Lucas part, using that very useful article by Chet Faleski and Ed Zielinski, from the October ROUGH RIDER, he will probably have found the part number unknown to the dealer, who is also unable to offer any current replacement and finds it impossible to order a "turn indicator switch" by name, since he can only deal with parts numbers.

Fortunately for us all, there exists a terrific person named Donna Jewell, who has been working for (6770 Moravia Park Drive, Baltimore, MD 21237, 301 488-4040) for twenty years and seems to know every part number by heart ("54520650? That's a headlight rim; it goes with gasket 54521487.") I sent her our list to which she devoted considerable time and energy and several phone calls in updating it. She deserves our heartfelt thanks.

Of the 44 numbers on the original list, only 8 remained the same. In several instances, as noted, two or more numbers replaced a single original, as fbr example, headlights, where now three numbers denote the body, rim and gasket.

Several items were totally out of stock at Lucas (fog and driving lights, wiper blades), and some were available only as remanufactured (generators and Starters) items.

Several items were in extremely limited stock. Only 54 +4 distributors, 3 4/4 distributors, and 1 CT distributor remain, and only 5 +4 ammeters. Then these are gone, they will not be replaced, as Lucas has discontinued the item. Purists who crave "original equipment" might well want to snap these up while they last. At present, main beam jewel lites are out of stock, but more are on order from England.

Basically, Lucas has told us that these items "should work," that they are the current replacements, but whether they exactly resemble the original, or even if they actually will fit and work can only be answered by experience. I hope other club members will carry on from here, correcting errors and adding new information from their own experience.

Any local Lucas dealer should be able to order from Baltimore in a day or two the parts numbers here listed. If you need to check something out beforehand, you can always call Donna Jewell, who will undoubtedly be as pleasant and helpful in the future as she has been in the past.

NOTES: 1. Fog and Driving Lights Originals (SLR 576) no longer available from Lucas, but some auto shops still have a few on hand. Try Bill Trcy, 3179 Woodland Lane, Alexandria, VA 22309 (703 360-6652.) They are, of course, expensive. For replacement lenses and bulbs, try Beltway Imported Auto Parts, 8808 Orchard Tree Lane, Baltimore, MD 21204. 2. Generators Originals no longer available. Lucas advises using the remanufactured G4012, says it's compatible with both +4's and 4/4's. Autobook notes that "later 4/4 engines" had the Lucas 40L generator replaced by a Lucas ACR , but that seems to be rarely found on U.S. Morgans. 3. Ignition Coil Lucas presently stocks the CL1O1, says it is compatible with both +4's and 4/4's, replacing originals 45179 (+4) and 45141 (4/4). Along the way, the 45212 and the CL2 were the +4 replacements, and the CL1 was the 414 replacement; one will still find these occasionally in local parts stores. None of these replacements, however, are identical with the original issue, having push-on terminals, different outlets and a different outward appearance. Although this will cause great displeasure to the purist, they will work (at least according to Lucas)! 4. Starters S2111 (+4) and S3511 (4/4) are remanufactured items 5. Wiper Arms Our original article listed the number 57712085 for the LE wiper arm; C Lucas says no such number exists and that the number was actually 54712085 and therefore was the same for both arms. The new number (for both arms) is 54707145, and Lucas says it is not quite the same as the original but should work with a tiny bit of modification (like replacing your windshield with one from a 1959 1 8 Ford pick-up). (Only kidding, Lucas, heh heh.) 6. Wiper Blades No longer available. Would be interested if anyone has a suggestion for a source for wiper arms or blades. 7. 4/4 Ammeter The number from our article, 36099, was not recognized by Lucas personnel. A source informed me that a comparable am-meter would be 36230, used on early English Fords, but that neither this nor 36099 would have the white facing. Would hope someone knows of a source, since there does not appear to be an ammeter available from Lucas at present for the 4/4. 8. Fuse Box Lucas says our original article transposed part of the number, that the original part was 54038034, not 45038034. The current replacement is 540380. is 31743, 9. Turn Indicator Switch Not included in original article. Current number and is the type known as "bat hancled" (evidently from a cricket bat, since I've never seen a Louisville Slugger with a flat handle), common to Morgans. 10. Tan Belt N't covered in original article, but while I'm at it, a source for a +4 fan belt is Hansa Products, 6515 Rainswood Dr., Landover, MD 20705 (301 925-4422). The belt is made by Optibelt, its nu::ber is V-belt 20x900, and it costs $5.63. You can order by phone and have it shipped by UPS. Hope someone can supply a source and number for a 4/4 belt.
