Sevenoaks Town Partnership meetings

The next meeting of the Sevenoaks Town Partnership will take place on Wednesday 10th July at 6.30 p.m at the Town Council Offices in Bradbourne Vale Road

Plastic Free Sevenoaks Pledge

Cllr Roderick Hogarth, Mayor of Sevenoaks launched the project for a Plastic Free Sevenoaks at the Annual Public Meeting held on 18th March 2019. The logo for the leaflet was designed by Youth Councillor Gabby Tan.

New Chess Club for 11-18 Year Old’s – Free Entry, Youth Café (basement of the Stag Theatre)

New Youth Councillor Jacob Watson an experienced & junior squad player is helping to set up a new Chess Club for other young people. There will be some coaching available and a fun league. Entry is free and the club will start on Wednesdays from 13th March 2019, 5 – 7 p.m. In order to attend young people must know the basics of chess.

Tuesday Club re-opens! A Free weekly club for young people aged 11-16 with Special Educational Needs

The Tuesday Club is a fun social gathering where young people can take part in weekly activities in a supervised and informal setting. Activities include games, movies, music, computers, cookery, arts & crafts, pool and table tennis. Snacks and drinks are available to purchase.

Sevenoaks In Bloom 2019

The Sevenoaks in Bloom Committee recently met to discuss plans to build on 2018 successes and put in place plans for 2019. The theme for 2019 will be ‘edible planting’ and red, white and blue colour scheme. There are many opportunities for volunteers to become involved in Sevenoaks in Bloom, even for non-gardeners. Ferrari Event 15th September 2019

A new event arranged by Kent Ferrari Owners Club and sponsored by Manak Solicitors and Creative Production will take place on the Vine Gardens from 10.30 – 4.00 p.m. with Ferrari cars, musical entertainment and food. The event will be free to enter and help to raise funds for the Mayor’s Fund.

Work Experience Sevenoaks Week – 1st to 5th July

The Sevenoaks and District Chamber of Commerce are delighted to announce that they will be offering a week long work experience event for students from across the district. The purpose of the work experience week is to offer local businesses the opportunity to showcase different career paths to local students without the need to commit to a full day or week of work experience. Sevenoaks Chamber members will be offering their expertise and advice to students on potential career paths in various industries. The weeklong programme will offer; Site visits and tours of businesses Round table discussions about different career paths Skill sessions providing essential skills to prepare for work Interactive workshops and networking events Schools are being approached directly to ask students to apply for the limited spaces available. Knole Events

June Conservation week, Tuesday 4th-Sunday 9th June Meet Knole's conservation team during your visit to the showrooms. Find out how conservation and housekeeping techniques have changed over the years, and how the team cares for a grand, sprawling house like Knole. Watch demonstrations and see specialist conservators working to refix the caffoy in the King’s Closet. Please note last entry to the showrooms will be at 3.30pm this week, to allow the conservation team to polish the floors. Ever wondered what it is like to be a conservator working on a precious collection? Drop by the conservation studio (Wednesday to Saturday, 12pm-1pm and 2pm-3pm) and meet our experts who will share their work, passion, decision making and sometimes frustration whilst working up close on a piece. Normal admission applies.

July Summer flower arranging, Thursday 18th July (10.30am-1pm or 2pm-4.30pm) Create a flower arrangement for your home, inspired by the grand floral displays that would have adorned Knole’s showrooms for celebrations and dinners in the early 20th century. Using seasonal blooms in mixed pastel shades, award winning florist Sian Johnson will help you produce a beautiful contemporary arrangement to be proud of. £65 per person. Booking essential.

August Family Mondays, Monday 29th July, 5th, 12th & 19th August (11am-3pm) Get creative with drop in craft activities in Green Court on Mondays during the school summer holidays. Activities change each week, and will be inspired by archaeology, caterpillars and butterflies, trees and plants, and sunshine and rainbows. £2 per child. Booking not needed.

September Outdoor cinema, Friday 13th and Saturday 14th September (6.30pm-9.30pm) As the sun sets, settle down to watch a fantastic film in a historic location. This year, see Christopher Robin or Cinderella on the big screen in Knole’s Green Court. Entry to the Gatehouse Tower is included for ticket holders between 6.30pm and 7.30pm, and the films will start at 7.30pm. Food and drink will be available to purchase before the film begins, or you can bring along your own picnic. £12 per adult, £7.50 per child. Booking essential.

Heritage Open Day, Friday 20th September (11am-4.30pm) Celebrate Heritage Open Day by visiting Knole's showrooms and gatehouse tower for free. Take in panoramic views from the top of the Gatehouse Tower, and admire a world-class collection of paintings and furniture in the showrooms, which have reopened this year following a £20 million conservation project. £5 parking charge for non-members. Booking not needed.

Sevenoaks Camera Club’s Annual Exhibition displays members’ favourite photos

The 2019 edition of Sevenoaks Camera Club’s Annual Exhibition allows members to show the public more of their favourite work. Our members range from relative beginner to very experienced photographers and they will exhibit pictures of a variety of subjects that the members enjoy taking, from landscapes to abstract and many other types. The exhibition will be held in The Sevenoaks Kaleidoscope Gallery, Buckhurst Lane, Sevenoaks TN13 1LQ from

Wednesday 5 June to Saturday 15 June 2019, during normal Sevenoaks Library opening times.

Admission is free.

This popular annual event is another chance to see the work of some of our enthusiastic local amateur photographers. Prints will be on display every day of the show. On Saturdays there will also be a display of digital photos on a TV screen and members of the club will be in attendance to answer questions.

Club meetings usually take place on three Mondays a month between September and May and include talks about photography by members and visiting speakers, good-natured competitions, and also some workshops. The friendly meetings help the more than 60 members to improve their skills in various ways. ART IN JUNE PRESS RELEASE 2019

ART IN JUNE . OPEN STUDIOS. 7 - 23 June, 2019. SEVENOAKS AND EDEN VALLEY AREA There are 60 artists in 18 studios scattered across the Sevenoaks and Eden Valley area, offering the opportunity to talk to the artists, purchase or even commission a piece. The artistic and creative talents of the artists and craftsmen are outstanding as well as the beautiful countryside and gardens that visitors will be travelling through to visit these studios, some of which are the inspiration for the art on display. Often coffee, tea and even cake are available. There is a very useful guide book for the event. Look out for the striking bright yellow cover. It is available at many shops, pubs, libraries, schools, etc. The guide shows images of the artwork and gives information on addresses, exact directions to studios, opening hours and contact details of artists including their websites. Not all artists are open every day. Also, please look at www.artinjune.org where images and details can be found. Don't miss this wonderful journey of discovery available for two weeks, 3 weekends in June.

In glorious June, 9 Artists at the converted Dairy at Dibgate Farm in Sundridge open the doors to show an exciting array of different mediums including painting, lino printing, textiles, jewellery, glassware, felt pictures, ceramics, screenprints, and indoor and outdoor sculpture. The display is set in 3 rooms and a studio which surround the specially grown June garden of roses, foxgloves and lupins.

A short distance away, up Polhill and on to find the studio at Mary Bliss’ house: Oakleigh, Badgers Road where you can view Mary’s stunning paintings and Noel Wills’ unique and natural paintings and sculptures.

Back down the hill, you can make your way to two studios in . A mother and daughter duo: Angela Bishop and Suzie Galloway display their work in an extensive, natural and enchanting garden at 5 Broughton Road.

This location provides the perfect backdrop to Angela’s beautiful sculpture and glassware and Suzie’s uniquely black and white paintings. Her subject matter includes sharks for which proceeds of sales will go to the Red Sea Sharks, for which she is an ambassador.

In Otford, at 58 High Street you can visit the very pretty and congenial garden studio of painter printmaker Ann Bridges. You are sure to be fascinated by her hands on and enthusiastic demonstrations of her unique style of printmaking and her comprehensive display of many captivating years of sketchbooks wherein the range of topics and draftsmanship is simply mesmerizing.

Leaving Otford, travel towards and 3 Springhead Drive where the 6 Hope Artists are sure to please. This is the home of Graham and Sue Souch, the sheep they keep form the inspiration for Sue’s paintings and Graham’s will be demonstrating his craftsmanship in his woodturning studio/shed. They have invited 4 other painters with a refreshing variety of styles and mediums.

From Kemsing, it is only a short trip to the haven of Chart Farm at where husband and wife Tim and Angela Constable display their work from their attractive converted stable studio and workshop. Visitors will be captivated by Tim’s fascinating workshop with interesting tools and benches where he creates his very fine furniture and Angela’s studio display shows how she creates her stunning botanical paintings.

Travelling back along the A25, in Sevenoaks there are several not-to-missed studios. Just up Seal Hollow Lane, at Eildon in the enjoyable conservatory and studio setting of Carole Aston you can see an astonishing array of mediums: Carole’s fabric bags, engaging lino-cuts and beautiful paintings and her co-exhibitor Lesley Hall’s delicate jewellery, marvellous photographs and amazing miniatures. You are likely to find one or both of them at work on their art and Carole often invites visitors to have a go at a linocut.

Further along, off the A25 is 11 Robyn’s Way, Sevenoaks a most agreeable house with views down to the Lake. Here Corinne Milan will be seen at her spinning wheel amongst her colourful woolly creations along with Lynne McCartney, a first time Open Studio artist, displaying a huge range of paintings which are always exceedingly popular at local exhibitions..

You can then travel along to Glebe House, Shoreham Lane, Riverhead to see this year’s “United Nations” of artists: Isabelle Mercer, Pascale Corbeel, Chicco Carrega Bertolini, and Damian Moreau from Belgium and Italy: 5 artists exhibiting beautiful and acclaimed outdoor sculpture in Isabelle’s lovely garden complemented by Irish born Dione McKenna’s gorgeous and tempting display of silver jewellery.

Now, it is just a short journey up to 6 Hunsdon Drive, Sevenoaks where artwork is pleasingly arranged in the spacious and welcoming conservatory and home of artist Jackie Gwyther. She shows her terrifically accomplished paintings, portraits and pet portraits alongside Mary Wright’s useful and beautifully handcrafted stoneware pottery.

Heading up Sevenoaks High Street, it is just a bit way further to: 41, The Rise, Sevenoaks: the comfortable home of Frances Wells and her fascinating ceramic exhibition. Her talents are wide-ranging, including raku, stoneware and porcelain and she enjoys discussing her various techniques and inspirations and visitors can see the actual studio and kilns where she works.

From The Rise, visitors are in a perfect position to head towards the charming village of Underriver where signposts will guide to the spectacular setting of The White House, Rooks Hill the hilltop home and studio of Juliet Simpson. She shows an absorbing, imaginative and eventful array of sculpture in all mediums. The backdrop pleasingly embraces inspirational and thought-provoking work created over many decades.

Leaving Rooks Hill, it is not far towards Morley’s Roundabout and thence the attractive village of Weald. At 22 Hurst Farm Road visitors can find a stunning array of kiln formed glass shimmering and catching the light in Victoria Lucas Robert’s conservatory setting. The address includes her studio, so visitors can see how and where these beautiful pieces are created.

Departing from Weald, visitors should make their way to The Red House in Hever which hosts an emu, a pig and horses and 10 artists showing a variety of work encompassing silk painting, glassware, textiles, etchings, ceramics and more. The display continues throughout the house and outbuildings amongst which a restored gypsy caravan.

Very near in the enchantingly named Pigdown Plantation, Pigdown Lane, Hever is Pigdown Pottery, Lotte Andrews’ barn studio where you can see her contemporary ceramics alongside Rebecca Day’s endearing “Toad Hall” animal paintings inspired by her life amongst wet dogs and welly boots.

Not too far, near The Wheatsheaf Pub, at 1 Chequers Cottages, , see the recent leading-edge work of mature degree student Daniel Huckfield and his partner Carol O’Dea’s incisive and gestural Chinese watercolours many featuring her cats as subject matter. The pieces are imaginatively displayed in an inviting outdoor casbah type arrangement.

Along the road at , find 8 artists at Jessops Farm a delightful and charming setting packed with glorious variety of exuberant paintings. Hands-on workshops and demonstrations will be operating most of the time.

Just a bit further on the main road in , visit Wandsworth Cottage, Four Elms and enter the garden studio of Jane Wharrad to see her quirky and inspired sculptures along with the beautiful ceramics of her co-exhibitor Liz Stace.

From Four Elms, visitors could travel again to Sundridge….and Dibgate Farm...and start again on the amazing Art in June Art Trail…..enjoy.

Fundraising guitar concerts for Sevenoaks Welcomes Refugees

The box office is now open to buy tickets for Sevenoaks Welcomes Refugees (SWR) 2019 fundraiser guitar concerts with Ayman Jarjour, at the Vine Baptist Church and part of the 2019 Sevenoaks Summer Festival.

There are two concerts, on Friday 28 and Saturday 29 June. The concerts starts at 8:00 pm, with doors open from 7:15 pm. Tickets are £15:00 (£5:00 for children u16), either from the online box office (http://bit.ly/SWRAyman) or by telephone on 0333 666 3366.

Internationally renowned Syrian classical guitarist Ayman Jarjour has performed worldwide, including at Carnegie Hall in New York, and studied in Madrid and Juilliard. Ayman returns to Sevenoaks with a varied programme including Classical, Spanish, Latin, Modern and Syrian music, to support Syrian refugees resettling in the Sevenoaks area.
