Stewardship

*NEW* March 24, 2019 - 3rd Sunday of Lent

“He said to the gardener, ‘For three years now I have come in search of fruit on this fig tree but have found none.’” (Luke 13:7)

We can all be like the barren fig tree at times. Do you cling to what you have, or do you generously share with others? How will you respond when God asks you what you have done with all the gifts He has given you? Remember, not only are we called to be generous, we are called to develop and nurture our gifts and return with increase.

Moses and the Israelites a land to possess, He has also given each of us a home. Whether your home is grand or humble, it is a gift from God. Abraham prepared a great sacrifice to the Lord in gratitude for the home God gave him. How do you show your gratitude to God for the home He has given you? Do you make a sacrifice of any kind? Do you return any of your finances to God, investing equally in your eternal home just as you invest in your earthly home?

Archdiocesan News

Archbishop LeGatt’s Lenten Message In his most recent video message, Archbishop LeGatt shares some of the Pearls of Wisdom that he received on Ash Wednesday from students of Holy Cross School and St. Boniface Diocesan High School. His Grace was quite obviously touched by the joyful spirit and truthful good reasoning of these young persons. To view video, click here or on the photo.

NEW WEBSITE! National Week for Life and the Family The National Week for Life and the Family Tri-Diocesan Committee has launched a new website: lifeandthefamily.com. You will find resources, our events calendar, bulletin inserts, news and blog articles, and more information about the National Week for Life and the Family. It will serve as a "hub" for the NWLF in southern Manitoba, involving the Archdiocese of Winnipeg, Archdiocese of St. Boniface, and Ukrainian Catholic Archeparchy of Winnipeg.

Listening to the Gospel as a Family The theme for 2019’s National Week for Life and the Family is Listening to the Gospel as a Family. To prepare, our three Catholic Archbishops in southern Manitoba invite families to grow in faith by reading the Gospel together as a family. A wonderful goal, but how? They propose Lectio Divina, an ancient method of prayer with Scriptures, sharing its impact with family members, and contemplating God’s goodness in our lives. Visit lifeandthefamily.com to view a video where Archbishop Albert LeGatt of Saint-Boniface explains how Lectio Divina works. Or click here.

The Door is Always Open: Chat with the Bishop for Separated or Divorced – Sunday, April 7, 2019 Separation and Divorce have touched and affected many Catholic individuals and families. How can we, as a Catholic community, offer spiritual and practical help for these members of our Church, and give hope to those recovering from separation and divorce? In his encyclical Familiaris Consortio, Saint John Paul II urged “I earnestly call upon pastors and the whole community of the faithful to help the divorced and with solicitous care, to make sure that they do not consider themselves as separated from the Church, for as baptized persons they can and indeed must share in her life.” In this spirit, His Grace, Archbishop Albert LeGatt would like to invite all members of our Church family who are separated or divorced to an afternoon to chat and ask questions, share about their needs, receive some guidance from the Church, and learn about the supports and resources available to them. This informal afternoon gathering will take place on April 7 from 2 PM to 4 PM at the Saint Boniface Diocesan Centre, 151 de la Cathédrale Avenue. Share the Journey with members of the Umuechem community in Nigeria In 1990, a peaceful community in the south of Nigeria became the victim of what has been recognized as the first crime committed by an oil company. Traumatized by a massacre of unparalleled violence, a large majority of the members of this community fled to neighbouring communities, never to return home again. To make sure that their story is never forgotten and to combat impunity, Development and Peace’s partner Social Action is supporting the Umuechem community in their legal action against the oil company. Discover the story of people forced to flee their homes and ways for each one of us to act in solidarity with them: devp.org/lent.
