BIA Projects

Forest Hill North Gateway: The City of Economic Development and the Forest Hill Village BIA are collaborating to create a dynamic northern gateway to Forest Hill Village. The goals for the project are: to enhance the streetscape at Suydam park for pedestrians with lighting, seating, and planting; to provide a small gathering area at the south gateway to the park; to identify the entry into Forest Hill Village from the North.

Bridge Rehabilitation

Spadina Road Bridge: Work will start again in early April for the rehabilitation of the bridge over the Nordheimer Ravine, from Churchill reservoir to south of St. Clair W. Spadina Road will be reduced to one lane of northbound traffic from Russell Hill Drive to St. Clair Avenue W. The project will end in the early summer.

Community Gardens

Frankel Lambert: Proposal received to expand the community garden. Awaiting response on next actions from Parks.

Hydro Corridor Allotment Gardens: We are looking forward to building these gardens along the Hydro corridor by Bathurst and Dupont. Currently communicating with the Parks Department to make this project viable in future. The area under consideration is located between the rail line north of Dupont and the south end of the Hillcrest TTC railyards.

Cycling

Ward 21 Bike Plan Expansion: Priorities are the Beltline West, Winona Dr lane, and Allen Rd lane to Cedarvale. Others for consideration are east/west Benson & Tyrrel, north/south on Wychwood, Glen Cedar contra-flow 2015, and a summer pilot for new signage on Glen Cedar.

Bike share: We have committed funds from condominium and rental developments to bring a number of stations to Ward 21. Currently surveying cyclists to draw up a list of preferred locations, which could include George Brown College, Tollkeeper's Park, Davenport Library, and St. Clair West Station. Developments

1486 Bathurst St. – The Barrington: An 18-storey, 93-unit building has been approved at the Ontario Municipal Board. To date, there is no construction schedule.

501 St. Clair Ave. W. – The RISE: The construction of a 23-storey residential building with 300 residential units and 950 square metres of commercial space on the ground floor has begun. Parking will be provided in a below-grade parking garage containing a total of 243 parking spaces, including 42 Toronto Parking Authority parking spaces. Construction will be completed in 2017.

829 St. Clair Ave. W. – The Nest: Construction has begun on a 9-storey building and the completion date is anticipated for 2016.

836 St. Clair Ave. W. (Formerly Hungarian House): The developer has proposed an 8-storey mixed-use residential and commercial building consisting of 138 residential units. A total of 83 parking spots is proposed in a below-grade parking garage. The proposal is still with the Planning Department with a City decision expected in early summer 2015.

St. Matthew's United Church: Funds to be dedicated to sanctuary renovation in exchange for a long term lease to be agreed upon for an arts organization.

155 Wychwood Ave.: A development application for a 9-storey condo with commercial space on the ground floor has been submitted to the City's Planning Department. It is at the very beginning of the planning process and community consultation meetings will be held this year.

Wychwood Library Renovation and Expansion: One final broad community consultation meeting will take place this year to review the plans and get the community's input. The project is expected to commence in 2016.

925-935 Eglinton Ave. W. – China House: A 9-storey mixed-use building containing 91 dwelling units and retail on the ground floor is well under way. The anticipated completion date is mid to end of 2016.

Petro Canada Site/St. Michael's College High School: The land where the Petro Canada gas station previously existed belongs to St. Michael's College High School. They have decided not to sell the land but to keep it for school purposes. At present, we have no information as to the specifics of their plans.

Tammi Lettner Synagogue (356-360 Spadina Rd): Construction nearing completion. Expected opening at the end of August 2015.

109 Rd. (Formerly the Occult Shop): A 9-storey residential building consisting of 51 total units, with a total of 30 parking spaces, has been approved by the Committee of Adjustment. Construction is expected to begin in the near future.

230 Vaughan Rd. (At Kenwood Ave.): A 3-storey residential building with 10 residential units has been approved by the Committee of Adjustment. As of now, we do not have a construction timeline.

350 Vaughan Rd. (At Cherrywood Ave.): This development proposal consists of 9 units – 7 detached units and 2 semi-detached units. Community consultation meetings have been held and the application will go before Council in the spring of 2015.

Metrolinx

Eglinton Crosstown LRT:  Tunnel boring machines (TBM) will be lifted over the Allen Rd on the weekend of April 17, where it will continue to Yonge. TBMs are also digging the eastern portion from Laird to Yonge. Tunnelling is expected to be complete by the end of 2016 when all machines meet at Yonge.  Allen Rd. will close Apr. 17-20 from Eglinton Ave. W. to Sheppard Ave. W. This is for the moving of the TBMs, and simultaneously, for state of good repair maintenance.  Construction to build headwalls at Bathurst St will be finished by the end of May 2015. During April and May, construction efforts will shift to the south side of the street.  Requests for proposal are now out for station construction.

Miscellaneous

Art Installation at Bathurst and Vaughan triangle: "Three Points Where Two Lines Meet" installation by Christian Giroux and Daniel Young; construction tentatively scheduled for September 2015.

Chaplin Fire Station Rebuild: Station 135 at Bathurst and Chaplin Crescent, is scheduled for a total rebuild; to be completed by 2016.

Parks

Taddlewood Seating/Grove of Oaks: Trees planted in summer 2014. Update requested on benches and plaque.

Barns Slade entrance: to be revisited in 2016.

Cedarvale outdoor rink: Interior renovations of Phil White have opened. Currently finalizing a booking system for the kitchen.

Cedarvale Park water play feature: Completed, water pressure to be adjusted.

Cedarvale Park lighting project: Due to happen this summer. Sectioned out different lighting areas for park. Dog park lights needed as well as the east/west path.

Cedarvale Park pathway drainage: Scheduled to happen this summer with the lighting project. West of the T-path is the priority.

Cedarvale dog park shade structure: Planning in progress.

Cedarvale BMX/Skateboarding Park: Discussions underway for programming and supplies.

Wychwood Barns dog park shade structure: Should be installed by Parks in 2016.

Wychwood Barns rink new pipe: Possibility to do an installation to extend westward in the future.

Hillcrest dog park fence extension: Received a community petition, consultation date forthcoming.

Phil White Stairs embankment: Bidding process has closed. Purchasing has awarded the project to the selected bidder. Construction to take place this year.

Laughlin Playground sandbox & hose-bib: Planning in progress.

Frankel Lambert courtyard pavers: Upgrade to be redone possibly in 2015, may include a shade structure in the future.

Western Prep playground project: Fundraising underway.

Wells Hill lawn bowl/library expansion: Fundraising underway.

Humewood Park path resurfacing: Taking place in summer 2015.

Heath Street parkette exercise equipment: to be installed as soon as the ground is ready in spring 2015.

Sir Winston Churchill Park reservoir: Community consultation to take place in spring 2015.

Road Resurfacing

Chiltern Hill Road: Stretch between Dewbourne Rd and Ava Rd will be resurfaced in summer 2015.

Elm Ridge Drive: Deferred until 2016 due to a Toronto Water project which started in 2014 and continues in 2015.

Glen Cedar Road: Notice of work to take place in 2015 for the stretch between Heathdale Rd and Strathearn Rd.

Winnett Avenue: Notice of work to take place in 2015 for the stretch between Vaughan Rd and Durham Ave.

Newgate Road: Notice of work to take place in 2015 for the stretch between Elm Ridge Dr and Ridelle Ave.

Fairleigh Crescent: Notice of work to take place in 2015 for the stretches between Eglinton Ave W and Hydro Poll 50.

Park Hill Road: Notice of work to take place in 2015 for the stretches between Fairleigh Cres and Citizen Lane.

Shaw Street: Notice of work to take place in 2015 for the stretch between Dupont St and Wychcrest Ave.

Christie Street: Notice of work to take place in 2015 for the stretches between Melita Ave and Davenport Rd.

Montclair Avenue: Notice of work to take place in 2015 for the stretch running west from Spadina.

Spadina Road: Notice of work to take place in 2015 for the stretch between Eglinton Ave W and Thelma Ave.

Sidewalk Improvements

Old Park Road @ Old Forest Hill Road: Request made to remove turning lane on the northeast corner.

Ridelle Avenue: Request deferred for the stretch between Old Park-Bathurst. May be bundled with future road works.

Walmer Road @ Austin Terrace: Planning underway for reduction of corner radii. Expected in 2016.

Davenport Road @ Christie Street: Planning underway for reduction of corner radii. Expected in 2016.

Markdale Avenue dead end: Request being investigated to construct a sidewalk at this location.

Wells Hill Avenue: Planning underway.

Speed Humps

Greensides Avenue: Approval to install speed humps between St. Clair and Tyrrel; construction schedule forthcoming.

Toronto Water

Roselawn Avenue: Work started in April 2014 between Marlee Ave. and Allen Rd.

Elm Ridge Drive: Water main rehabilitation work underway in spring 2015 between Newgate Rd. and Bathurst St.

Allen Road: Work scheduled to begin in spring 2015 between Roselawn Ave. and Elm Ridge Dr. Toronto Hydro Projects

Note: Projects are subject to regulatory approval and timing is subject to change based on project prioritization. For more information on hydro infrastructure in Ward 21, please see the slide deck posted on the website.

Dewbourne Avenue Overhead rebuild: Scheduled for 2017; rebuilding the overhead infrastructure by replacing poles and transformers.

Short term mitigation work: Completed 2014; replacing overhead defective assets within the overhead infrastructure.

Bathurst Street Rehabilitation: Scheduled for 2017; rehabilitate a section of Bathurst Street to remove obsolete assets and rebuild portions of the secondary laterals supplying customers.

Vaughan Road Overhead Rebuild: Scheduled for 2015-2016; rebuilding the overhead infrastructure by replacing poles and transformers.

Shalmar and Vesta Rear Lot Conversion: Scheduled for 2017-2019; conversion from of the distribution infrastructure from rear lot supply to front lot underground

Safety Upgrades on St. Clair Ave. W.: Toronto Hydro is replacing the old metal hand wells with new, non-conductive hand wells. Many were replaced before 2010, but due to the moratorium on work along St. Clair they were prevented from finishing. This ended in 2014, so Hydro has gone back to finish the project. Currently the contractor, Aecon, is working on the south side of the street between Greensides Ave. and Bathurst St. This will be completed by April 17th. They will then move to the north side. A start date for that side is yet to be determined, but they are aiming to finish before June 1. If that isn't possible, work will pick up again at the end of August after the summer events conclude.

TTC

St. Clair West Station elevator project: Work underway. The elevators will be operational by 2016.

Dupont Station easier access: Scheduled to begin in late 2015.
