Gandria

I Romantico villaggio di pescatori arroccato ai piedi del Monte Brè offre al visitatore uno stupendo panorama. Chiusa al traffico, Gandria è un’oasi di tranquillità con le sue pittoresche viuzze e scalette. È raggiungibile in automobile (posteggio all'entrata del paese), in battello, in bus oppure a piedi da Castagnola-San Domenico percorrendo in mezz'ora un facile sentiero che costeggia il lago. Mendrisio

I Alle pendici del Monte Generoso, a 5 km dal lago di Lugano e alle porte della Campagna Adorna, sorge Mendrisio, capoluogo del distret- to. Mendrisio vanta un’importanza politica di origine medioevale e i suoi meravigliosi palazzi ed edifici situati nel centro storico ne sono il miglior testimone. La chiesa arcipretale opera dell'arch. Luigi Fontana che sovrasta Piazza del Ponte, la chiesa di S. Giovanni e l'ex-convento dei Serviti (ora Museo d’Arte) contribuiscono a fare di Mendrisio il magnifico borgo. Negli ultimi anni Mendrisio si è trasformata in un importante centro universitario, commerciale e turistico. I Il Monte San Giorgio, perla di particolare pregio, è stato inserito nel luglio 2003 nell’elenco del Patrimonio Mondiale naturalistico dell’Umanità (UNESCO World Heritage List), e racchiude nella sua roccia fossili particolarmente ben conservati, di una fauna che risale a 230 milioni di anni fa (Triassico medio). La fauna fossile è composta soprattutto da pesci, invertebrati (fra cui rari insetti) e da grandi e spettacolari rettili per lo più marini. Alcuni dei reperti più significativi si possono ammirare nel Museo dei Fossili di Meride. D Der Monte San Giorgio, eine besonders wertvolle Perle, wurde im Juli 2003 in die Liste der UNESCO Naturwelterbe aufgenommen und birgt in seinem Gestein besonders gut erhaltene Fossilien einer Tierwelt, die 230 Millionen Jahre zurückgeht (Mitteltrias). Unter den Fossilien wurden vor allem Fische, wirbellose Tiere (darunter seltene Insektenarten) sowie grosse und eindrucksvolle Kriechtiere, meistens Meeresreptilien, gefunden. Im Fossilienmuseum von Meride kann man einige der bedeutendsten Funde bewundern. Monte Generoso

I Il Monte Generoso è la montagna più panoramica del Cantone Ticino. La vista spazia dalle pianure lombarde alle zone montagnose delle Alpi e degli Appennini. Vi si accede con un comodo trenino a cremagliera che parte da Capolago, in un viaggio di 40 minuti tra la natura incontaminata. Sulla Vetta, una moderna struttura permette la ristorazione e l’alloggio. La Vetta è raggiungibile a piedi dalla stazione d’arrivo della ferrovia in 10 minuti.
