Attraction Tickets Beware! I found some website were overcharging for tickets, such as for the Statute of Liberty. Relying on for sightseeing tickets can cost you more.

If you want to see more attractions than we did, I recommend getting a CityPass: http://www.citypass.com/new‐york The CityPass will save you money if want to see six NYC attractions; it’s much cheaper than buying the individual tickets to each attraction. But we didn’t have enough time, so I purchased advance, individual tickets to the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building and I upgraded the Empire State Building ticket to a VIP pass so we didn’t have to wait in line at all, which was worth it for us.

9/11 Memorial & Museum Purchase tickets in advance online if you want to visit the 9/11 Memorial Museum. You do not need a ticket to just visit the memorial fountains. 180 Greenwich Street New York, NY 10007 https://www.911memorial.org/memorial https://www.911memorial.org/museum One World Observatory Purchase tickets in advance online if you want to visit the new One World Observatory tower. Page 3 www.PeanutFreeParenting.com HELPFUL TIP – Bronx Zoo Directions from the Subway Trying to get to the Bronx Zoo was the only time we got a little lost and it’s because the zoo website, , and my otherwise awesome guidebook wasn’t detailed or clear enough. Below are the detailed directions. The easiest and safest bet is to pay and take the BxM11 express bus, but we wanted to use the subway since we already had an unlimited pass and getting to the bus stop on the Upper East Side wasn’t convenient.

By subway, take the 2 train to Pelham Parkway. Make sure you exit the subway platform at the south end, which will be toward the back of the train. This is Pelham Parkway SOUTH, and you need to walk due west down the sidewalk (use your phone’s compass feature if needed), facing oncoming traffic. (If you find yourself on Pelham Parkway North, walk south to Pelham Parkway South.) When you get to the traffic light at Pelham Parkway South and Boston Road, turn left onto Boston Road. At the next crosswalk, cross the street. This will put you on the right‐hand side (north side) of Boston Road on the sidewalk. This is road that runs along Bronx Park. If you follow the sidewalk down the hill and under the bridge, you’ll be at the zoo entrance. It’s actually really easy to get to the zoo from the subway station if you know where you’re going! See picture below and follow the red arrows. Luckily, we ran into an exchange student from France so we were a group of five very‐lost‐ looking people that attracted the attention of two helpful people, one of whom shouted directions through his car window while stopped at a light and another who pointed us in the right direction through his open apartment window when we didn’t realize we had to cross the street to follow Boston Road down to the zoo.

The Best NYC Guidebook My favorite travel guide is Frommer’s EasyGuide to New York City 2016, available here: http://amzn.to/1SbJXtx It’s comprehensive and small enough take with you.

The Two Apps that were Lifesavers in Getting Us Around Dropbox This is a simple tip, but was incredibly helpful. I saved a copy of the subway map to Dropbox and had the Dropbox app on my phone so the map was always at my fingertips. I never had to go searching for a map in the subway station or make a fellow subway rider uncomfortable by trying to stare at the map over their head on the train. And I didn’t have to worry about pulling out a crumpled sheet of paper with a too‐small‐to‐read map.

Google Maps I know you know about Google Maps and the Google Maps app, but not everyone knows that you can save locations in your map on your computer and then easily access it later from the app.

After planning the main attractions and areas I knew we wanted to visit, I went to Google Maps on my desktop computer. www.google.com/maps/

Page 5 www.PeanutFreeParenting.com

Then I entered the address for a place we wanted to go. Once I found it on the map, I clicked the star icon (save). I did this for each place we wanted to visit. As long as I was logged into the same on my phone app, I could bring up the map and see stars where I’d saved each attraction. All I had to know was the approximate location of the attraction we wanted to visit, zoom in on the map, click the saved location, and tell the app to give me directions from my current location! No trying to look up and plug in addresses while standing on the busy street or subway station!

Feel free to email me at shgatewood@.com if you have questions. Best wishes for a wonderful and safe trip!
