WIRRAL RAMBLERS SUNDAY 19th AUGUST 2007 CNICHT ()

A WALK Starting from Tanygrisiau we ascend by path to Llwn Stwlan reservoir. Head south west to the cairn on Moelwyn Bach, north to the trig on Moelwyn Mawr via Bwlch Stwlan and descend west to . Continue north east to Llyn Yr Adar via Cnicht and turn south east back to Tanygrisiau via Cymorthin. DISTANCE: 20km (12½ miles) 21 POINTS ASCENT 1295m (4250ft)

B PLUS WALK Starting from Tanygrisiau (GR 682449) we take the quarry track to Cwmorthin Quarry and cross the quarry floor to Bwlch y Rhosydd. We then follow a north westerly path to skirt Llynnau Diffwys to join the Cnicht ridge near Lynn yr Adair where a south westerly path takes us to the summit. From the summit we descend to CroesOr, then follow a long ascent back to Bwlch y Rhosydd and return to the coach by our outward route. This is a maximum B plus walk, the descent of Cnicht is steep with some scrambling. 1 point for terrain. DISTANCE: 17.7km (11 miles) 18 POINTS ASCENT 915m (3000ft) B MINUS WALK Starting from Tanygrisiau we make our way along a quiet road to Llyn Stwlan dam, and then descend on a mining track (steep in places) to Tanygrisiau reservoir. We then follow the to Dduallt Station and then follow Afon Goedol through the nature reserve along woodland tracks to cross the A496 at Tyn y cefn. We continue north to then return to Tanygrisiau along the village road. ½ point added for terrain DISTANCE: 14.5km (9 miles) 13 POINTS ASCENT 520m (1700ft) C WALK Starting at Tanygrisiau Visitor Centre we follow paths past the power station and along the western edge of the reservoir. We continue roughly following the track of the Ffestiniog Mountain Railway. At Ddualt we follow the southern edge of the Coed Bronturnor Nature Reserve and then take a steep, rough path up to Coed-y-bleiddiau station (time will be taken on this climb). We return to Dduallt following the northern edge of the nature reserve and retrace our steps to the southern edge of the reservoir. Our return to Tanygrisiau follows paths along the eastern edge of the reservoir. (There are a number of short, steep ascents on this walk).

DISTANCE: 12.9km (8 miles) 9½ POINTS ASCENT 200m (660ft) Please keep behind your leader at all times On minor roads & lanes please keep in single file, close to the right hand side, where possible
