At the recent Greek Awards ceremony the chapter received recognition in seven out of the eight categories for excellence in academic achievement, excellence in philanthropy and community service, excellence in external relations, excellence in member development, excellence in chapter management, and excellence in inclusive excellence. Adam Segall our immediate past president was honored as President of the Year and Greg Grauberger was honored as Faculty Advisor of the Year. Kudos to both of them. With a brotherhood of over 108 men, IOTA is the biggest and best chapter at DU. We thank Adam Segall and all of his officers and chairmen for a job well done. We are also very impressed with Sonny Davis and his team for their efforts to date. We think they bode well for another great upcoming school year. My thanks go out to my fellow advisors for their efforts and a special thank you to Don Reisfeld, who does an outstanding job as our newsletter publisher and editor. We are thrilled to announce the chapter’s website has been updated. We encourage alumni to go to the Alumni tab and look around. There you will find composites going back to the 1940s and hundreds of pictures from yesteryears and our reunions. It is a great trip down memory lane. Alas, we have credited a virtual scrapbook for alumni to enjoy forever. Check out http://www.duzbt.com. We are also excited to announce that ZBT’s Annual International Convention and Leadership School will be held in Denver August 1st-4th next year. This is in honor of CU’s and DU’s founding as Phi Sigma Delta chapters in 1919 and 1920 respectively. It is fitting that our Centennial is being celebrated in Colorado The Centennial State. Preliminary plans are being made for a reunion and celebration in fall of 2020 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of our chartering at DU. Stay tuned for details. THE ALUMNI AND PARENT NEWSLETTER OF THE IOTA CHAPTER OF ZETA BETA TAU OF THE UNIVERSITY OF Receive Seven-Figure Gift To Establish The Richard And Kitzia Goodman Head Hockey Coach Position The University of Denver Division of Athletics and Recreation received its first head coaching endowment: a seven-figure commitment to establish the Richard and Kitzia Goodman Head Hockey Coach posi- tion for the eight-time National Champion Pioneers, the University announced Thursday. “DU hockey is a cherished tradition for our community,” said Chancellor Rebecca Chopp. “This gift enables our athletics program to reach higher in pursuit of quality outcomes on the ice and academ- ically. We are grateful to Richard, Kitzia and their family for their trust, vision and support of our championship hockey program.” Vice Chancellor for Athletics, Recreation and Operations Peg Bradley-Doppes expressed her gratitude to the Goodman’s gift. “Endowing this position is part of a strategy to continue to recruit and retain top-level coaching talent, while enhancing facilities and the sup- port programs that our student-athletes use on a day-to-day basis,” Bradley-Doppes said. “We can’t thank Richard and Kitzia enough for assisting in making this possible at the University of Denver.” Born, raised, and a current resident of Chicago, Richard Goodman obtained his undergraduate degree in finance (1978) and an MBA (1979) from DU’s Daniels College of Business. Richard is a partner at Henry Crown and Company, a family business and private investment group. Richard, himself, specializes in venture capital, commercial real estate, and high-tech and med-tech investments. Richard and Kitzia are lifetime Chicago Blackhawks fans, serve on several nonprofit, civic, and corporate boards, and enjoy spending time in Aspen, Colorado. “The University of Denver has been very important to our family and we are extremely excited to make this new investment in the university. I wanted to give back in a way that was meaningful to me and hockey was an important part of my DU experience,” Richard Goodman said. “Kitz and I hope that this gift will not only provide benefit in perpetuity, but also inspire other alumni and friends to support the legacy and future of DU Men’s .” During his collegiate days, Goodman played on the Denver Club Hockey team and was a treasurer for the Zeta Beta Tau fraternity. The University has graduated several members of the Goodman and Crown families, spanning generations. Richard’s son Daniel also graduated from the University of Denver with a degree in Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management, while his daughter Lily went to Brandeis University (Waltham, Massachusetts) and son Jordan went to Washington University (St. Louis, Missouri). Director of Athletics , who also played and coached hockey at DU stated, “To be the first endowed coach- ing position is very special. Richard and Kitzia Goodman are Pioneers in every sense for their leadership and willingness to start the process of endowing all head coaching positions at the

The fifth-year Pioneer bench boss reached the century mark in wins faster than any coach in DU history, leading the Denver program to the NCAA Tournament in each of his previous four seasons, reaching the quarterfinals three times, the Frozen Four twice and lifting the National Championship trophy in 2017. “Denver Hockey cannot thank Richard and Kitzia enough for their support and vision,” Denver’s Richard and Kitzia Goodman Head Hockey Coach Jim Montgomery said. “This endow- ment will allow us to operate at a high- er level and sustain the excellence that Denver Athletics strives for. THE ALUMNI AND PARENT NEWSLETTER OF THE IOTA CHAPTER OF ZETA BETA TAU OF THE UNIVERSITY OF DENVER Most Senior Iota Alums Meet Again

The boys of Iota classes '58 thru '65 met up in Scottsdale, Arizona last month. Eleven men and five wives gathered. We came from New York, Washington, Texas, Arizona, Colorado, California and Massachusetts. Left to right: Harvey Volin (Phoenix), Jerry Greenblatt, (Denver), Don Ohsman, (Phoenix), Barry Close (Boston), Mike Newman (Los Angeles), Marty Chernoff (Denver), Alan Witheiler (Dallas), missing Jeff Lewis (New York) and Ed Porges (Seattle)

Having previously met in Denver and Miami, this hardy group of eld- ers and their wives re-united again, thanks to Barry Close’s encourage- ment, this time in Scottsdale, Arizona. A total of nine men and six wives met February 7-9, 2018. It is a safe bet that these Denver University classes 1958-65 are the most senior Iota Phi Sigma Deltas to remain close brothers. Don and Georgeann Ohsman greeted all to a steak and salmon back- yard BBQ dedicated to the recently deceased, Lenny Schneir. Harvey Volin was at the salmon grill and earned title to mixologist extraordi- naire. Next morning, after coffee and breakfast at the hotel, Harvey Volin then led a hike to the sunny vista summit of Pinnacle Peak Park. After recovering from the vigorous mountain hike, we met for a fabu- lous lunch at Chompie’s Deli Scottsdale. Next on the agenda was after- noon cocktails lake cruising at Scottsdale Ranch, home of Harvey and Roberta Volin who were the gracious hosts of the iced beverages Custom cake for gathering at Don Ohsmans. aboard the pontoon boat. That evening the Iota clan experienced a glitch. Half the group were comfortably seated in a private dining room. The other half of the group went to the wrong Oreganos restaurant. After driving cross-town to the correct location, and being greeted with laughter, delicious pizza, salad and beer was served. Highlighting the evening was a game, Iota Trivia. Some questions posed by Ed Porges were: the fra- ternity house phone number (PEarl 3-9842), Mike Newman correctly recalling the old fraternity house address (1925 S. University), house- mother’s full name (Mrs. Jane Shriver) and Marty Chernoff reciting the Greek alphabet, and more. Top-Golf Scottsdale was the location of the next day’s open air, buffet lunch. Featured was the driving range. Jerry Greenblatt was clear win- ner using a 3-iron. From there we went to the amazing Museum of Musical Instruments. Barry Close skillfully pushed Don Ohsman’s wheelchair around the fascinating exhibits. The day was completed at Brio Italian Restaurant, a restaurant famed for its 1950s memorabilia. Enjoying the sun and fun and each other for a few days in Phoenix. The shooter was firing from his 32nd-floor suite in the Mandalay Bay Hotel that overlooked the concert grounds. In a story for AwesomenessTV, Zorensky wrote: “I ran towards the only cover I could find, which was a metal fence. I turned to my right and saw a girl who was shot. THE ALUMNI AND PARENT NEWSLETTER OF THE IOTA CHAPTER OF ZETA BETA TAU OF THE UNIVERSITY OF DENVER For the KIDS – Give to Children’s Miracle Network

Provost Kvistad after signing Get On The Ball, with brothers Alex Frith and President Adam Segall. My name is Alex Frith, and I am the current philanthropy chair with the Iota Chapter of Zeta Beta Tau at the University of Denver. I am starting my sophomore year majoring in mechanical engineering. This year, like many others before, we are asking you to help raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network. This group is helping children all over the country and world receive the proper medical attention and care that they need. It is our mission, a part of the Get On The Ball philanthropy campaign, to help raise as much money #ForTheKids as possible. This year, we were able to raise nearly $13,000 for Children’s Miracle Network, and we could not have done that without the support from our loyal friends, family, and most importantly, alumni! We are hoping that you can help us break our previous record by donating whatever you can, as well as spreading the word. It is easy to donate, please go to: http://www.zbtgetontheball.com then scroll down to the TOP 5 Teams in the lower right hand corner of the screen. There - click on ZBT-IOTA - Then click on GIVE NOW in the upper right hand area of the screen then the WHO WOULD YOU LIKE TO DONATE TO box will appear scroll down to ALUMNI click on DONATE and join us in helping the kids. If you wish to donate by check please address it to: Zeta Beta Tau IOTA and send to Alex Frith at 1959 So. Columbine, Denver, CO 80210. The chapter will make sure these funds get donated to CMN along with the thousands of dollars we collect from students on campus when they Get On The Ball by signing our large ball. When donating, please include your full name so that we can send you a personalized thank you note. We are hoping to have our best year of Get On The Ball yet and want YOU to be apart of it. Our new website features a variety of comprehensive tabs, each revealing something different regarding our brotherhood, along with a blog to keep followers in the loop with all things Iota. I encourage you to check it out for updates and news.
