Two of my three sisters struggle with their weight. That has never been a problem for me. A few years ago I weighed 175 and every morning had to suck it in to fasten the top button on my jeans. I made some diet changes, and in a few months my pot belly was gone. The scale now reads 155, and the jeans fit. My sisters and I have the same parents, so the gene pool is the same. We grew up eating identical meals until we each left home at 18. Why is weight a daily issue for my sisters but has never been a problem for me?

I’m thinking about how this applies to our horses. My technician, Erin, has her horses at home in Sabattus. Let me introduce you to them:

We’ll start with Prophet, king of the barn. Prophet is a slim 20-year-old WB X TB gelding. She admits “I was being very picky; I am 67-years-old and this was probably the last horse I would acquire.” But after a night of restless sleep, Karen couldn't get Idealist’s eyes out of her mind. “I called Barb and said if FFS took him and the vet check said he had a fairly good chance at a reasonable recovery I'd take him. Robyn Cuffey put him on a lunge line (which was new to him) so Karen could see him move. She was amazed at how good he looked, with flashy movements.
