As members of the Students’ Union, it’s really important that you take 5 minutes to vote on the 26th, 27th and 28th Febru- ary. It’s a cliché but if you don’t vote you really won’t have a say. The people running for elections really can change University life for you, and you need to make sure that you are voting for someone that will change it for the better. The more students that vote the more powerful we become. The voting turnout is really im- portant to continue to demon- strate that the Union is a for- ward-thinking democratic body that truly represents what its members want. running for... Executive EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES OFFICER

I’m a Northern Irish born-Chinese student, in my second year studying Maths with Economics. I like football, tennis, hockey, weight-lifting, going out socialising with my friends, Economics and the financial markets. I’m a polite, friendly, well motivated, reliable, enthusiastic and hard working person. I’m also innovative when it comes to problem solving and I work well with other people.

I am running for Equal Opportunities Officer. My aims are raising more awareness of LGBTs so that they will integrate more into the student community, supporting international students where issues arise so that these are resolved more effectively, introduce more events to encourage friendly rivalry between men and women students, raise more awareness of other cultures and religions and improve university experience for students with disabilities where possible.

I do what ever it takes in order to ensure that all students have a positive experience at university. With or without the tools, I’ll finish the job no matter how long it takes and how many of my commitments get in my way.

In less than six years time Britain will play host to arguably the greatest sporting spectacle on Earth, an event that brings over 200 countries together: the 2012 Olympic Games. Since it was announced that London had won the bid on July 6 2005, much controversy has surrounded how and whether we can make a success of this opportunity; the Wessex Scene’s Faye Dickson spoke to five-times Olympic Champion Sir Steve Redgrave about what hosting the Olympics means to Britain and its athletes, and how as Southampton University students, YOU can get involved:
