To All Citizens of the American Legion New Mexico Boys’ State: I am so proud to have had the opportunity to watch you all work through our program and embrace the lessons that we have given. It is those who understand the processes of government that have the greatest ability to affect change around them. By your efforts this week, you are now equipped to be the instrument of change, rather than simply dealing with the changes implemented by others. I spoke to you of the four characteristics that are essential for political figures to be a positive force in their communities. Once again, I challenge each of you to embrace these characteristics as you move forward into your adult lives. Hope for a better future. Loyalty to those who have given their trust. Integrity to do the right thing even when it’s hard. Perseverance to push through when you want to give up. Finally, I want to thank each of you for the time you gave to this program over the last week. It has been my privilege and honor to have watched you grow and begin your journey into the leaders that I know you all will be. Kenneth R.     FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE [email protected] LAS CRUCES HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT-ATHLETE NAMED GATORADE NEW MEXICO BOYS BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE YEAR CHICAGO (June 4, 2021) — In its 36th year of honoring the nation’s best high school athletes, Gatorade today announced William "Deuce" Benjamin of Las Cruces High School as its 2020-21 Gatorade New Mexico Boys Basketball Player of the Year. Benjamin is the third Gatorade New Mexico Boys Basketball Player of the Year to be chosen from Las Cruces High School. The award, which recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field, distinguishes Benjamin as New Mexico’s best high school boys basketball player. Now a finalist for the prestigious Gatorade National Boys Basketball Player of the Year award to be announced in June, Benjamin joins an elite alumni association of state award-winners in 12 sports, including Jayson Tatum (2015-16, Chaminade College Preparatory School, Mo.), Karl-Anthony Towns (2012- 13 & 2013-14, St. Joseph High School, N.J.), Jabari Parker (2011-12, Simeon Career Academy, Ill.) and Dwight Howard (2003-04, Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy, Ga.). The 6-foot-1 junior guard led the Bulldawgs to a 14-1 record and the Class 5A state final this past season, averaging 27.1 points, 5.7 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 3 steals per game. The 2020-21 MaxPreps New Mexico High School Boys Basketball Player of the Year, Benjamin is also a two-time New Mexico High School Coaches Association First-Team All- State selection.

    Metropolitan Redevelopment Agency Staff Report Case Number: 2019-003 Applicant: Metropolitan Redevelopment Agency Request(s): Major Expansion of the Old Albuquerque High School Metropolitan Redevelopment Area and Renaming the Area to the East Downtown/Huning Highlands/South Martineztown Metropolitan Redevelopment Area. BACKGROUND Metropolitan Redevelopment Agency staff are proposing a major expansion of the Old Albuquerque High Metropolitan Redevelopment Area to include the commercial corridor along Central and Martin Luther King Jr between Broadway and I-25 and the east side of Broadway from Lomas to Coal Ave. The new area will be renamed the East Downtown/Huning Highlands/South Martineztown/Metropolitan Redevelopment Area. Please find the attached Redevelopment Area Designation Report. FINDINGS 1. Throughout the proposed area there are a number of aging and deteriorating buildings and structures that are in need of repair, rehabilitation and in some instances removal. 2. A significant number of commercial or mercantile businesses have closed. 3. Throughout the proposed area there exists a deterioration of site improvements. 4. There exists low levels of commercial or industrial activity or redevelopment. 5.
