2.4. Other Names Cercospora apii sensu lato
2.5. Diagnostic Notes **Disease** Frog-eye leaf spot. Leaf spots circular, up to 1 cm diam., brown, typically with a small (0.5–1 mm) whitish centre (which gives the disease its common name).
**Morphology** _Conidiophores_ arising from black stromata on lower surface of leaf, in fasicles, pale brown to olivaceous- brown, 30–80 × 4–6 µm. Conidiophores usually continue to elongate, producing successive conidia, and hence 2 or more widely spaced scars. _Conidia_ 50–150 × 3–5 µm, hyaline, 5–15-septate, smooth, acicular, straight or slightly curved, tip rounded, basal cell truncate with distinct scar.
**Note** This fungus is considered by Crous & Braun (2003) to be a synonym of _Cercospora physalidis_, which in turn they regard as _Cercospora apii_ sensu lato.
