PARISH LENGTHSMAN

A group of 12 Parishes in the district require the services of a Parish Lengthsman for a 12-month contract (renewable) to work on village maintenance.

The duties of the Parish Lengthsman include such tasks as:

 Clearing existing drainage grips, maintaining ditches and channels  Cutting back vegetation overhanging the road or footway  Clearing/sweeping footways of weeds, moss, leaves, grit  Strimming grass and hedges  Litter picking, removing fly posters and graffiti  Cleaning signs and street nameplates (non-illuminated)  Cleaning street furniture: bus shelters, notice boards, benches (not lighting)  Staining/painting/minor repairs to street furniture, fences, pavilions

The Parish Lengthsman will require:

 Transport and mobile phone  Equipment such as hand tools, hedge cutter and strimmer  Insurance and safety certificates An introductory training session will be provided

The Lengthsman group includes 12 Parishes (, Twyford, , , , , , Oliver’s Battery, , Crawley, South and Ampfield). Ideally, the Lengthsman will have an employee or assistant for Health and Safety requirements, and will spend 1 day (or a total of 12 hours) in each parish in each quarter (96 days per annum). The contract will be on a fixed price basis.

You will be given a list of tasks for each Parish. There may be an opportunity for additional work.

The contract will start on 1st May 2017, and may be renewed on an annual basis thereafter.
