Rendell, the PA Fair Share for Clean Water Coalition asked the Governor to keep his commitment to help sewer system ratepayers and farmers finance improvements needed to reduce nitrogen and phosphorus pollution going to the Chesapeake Bay by supporting the PA Fair Share for Clean Water Plan . The PA Fair Share for Clean Water Coalition includes the Pennsylvania Municipal Authorities Association, Pennsylvania Farm Bureau, Pennsylvania Builders Association, Pennsylvania Association of Conservation Districts, the Chesapeake Bay Foundation and a growing list of 26 other environmental, business and local government groups. “Last December Gov. Rendell made a commitment to the Chesapeake Executive Council to convince the General Assembly to provide state funding to meet nutrient reduction requirements when the federal government provided funding,” said Matthew Ehrhart, Pennsylvania Executive Director for the Chesapeake Bay Foundation. “Congress has now acted by passing the federal Farm Bill which provides Bay states with $440 million to help comply with these mandates and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency just increased Pennsylvania’s funding for clean water projects by $20 million.” “Pennsylvania’s entire Congressional Delegation was involved in the Farm Bill effort, but we would especially like to thank U.S. Senator Bob Casey and Congressmen Tim Holden for their leadership on this issue,” said Ehrhart. “Now we hope Gov. -

These very scenic trails offer tranquil moments along the three reservoirs as well as spectacular views over the Delaware River, Port Jervis proper and the borders of three states. It’s a vast tract of land, boasting varying terrain, and areas of old-growth trees. There are over 30 miles of trail built into the encompassing 1,868 acres in Port Jervis and an adjoining 370 acres in neighboring Deer Park for hikers, bikers, and walkers, but not for motorists of any kind. “It’s strictly a motor-free environment,” This is a full-on mountain bike ride with MTB biking intermediate skills required. You will have a choice of either an 8 mile or 11-mile route at three to four hours around the park. This evaluated inventory identifies and documents each landscape’s location, physical development, significance, National Register of Historic Places eligibility, condition, as well as other valuable information for park management. Inventoried landscapes are listed on, or eligible for, the National Register of Historic Places, or otherwise treated as cultural resources. To automate the inventory, the Cultural Landscapes Automated Inventory Management System (CLAIMS) database was created in 1996. CLAIMS provides an analytical tool for querying information associated with the CLI. The CLI, like the List of Classified Structures (LCS), assists the National Park Service (NPS) in its efforts to fulfill the identification and management requirements associated with Section 110(a) of the National Historic Preservation Act, NPS Management Policies (2001), and Director’s Order #28: Cultural Resource Management (1998). Since launching the CLI nationwide, the NPS, in response to the Government Performance and Results Act (GPRA), is required to report on an annual performance plan that is tied to 6-year strategic plan. The NPS strategic plan has two goals related to cultural landscapes: condition (la7) and progress on the CLI (lb2b). -

Quarterly newsletter of the Delaware Highlands Conservancy FALL dedicated to preservation of open space and environmental quality in Wayne 2002 and Pike counties, PA & Sullivan and Delaware counties, NY GPS TECHNOLOGY USED IN MONITORING EASEMENTS BY CLINT RODELL When monitoring an easement as required periodi- cally by DHC guidelines, the GPS unit is used to note the location of any conditions caused by the use of the land, or misuse of the land. For example, many easements prohibit use of off the road vehicles. If the DHC monitor sees tire tracks, the location can be noted with the GPS unit along with a photo of this mis- use. Recording waypoints also makes a kind of "breadcrumb trail". Last fall a team of monitors includ- ing Barbara Yeaman, Peter Wulfhorst and Clint Rodell, met with Tom Hoff of the Twin Lakes Conservancy to monitor the easement that DHC holds on the Brown tract. Transcript for Save the Skinners Falls Bridge in the Historic Milanville District Ed: In the late 1970s Barbara and I started canoeing up here. I had a friend who worked here for the Park Service and he said why don’t you come up and spend some time with us and canoe on this part of the Upper Delaware River where I had never been. The very first trip that we made, we started at Callicoon and late in the afternoon passed under the Milanville Bridge, which was the name it was given when it was incorporated back in 1900. The first bridge that I ever saw on the Upper Delaware River was the Milanville bridge. We passed under that and got permission to camp in somebody’s yard in Narrowsburg that night and went on down the river. Little did we think on that trip that about four or five years later we’d be living about a mile below that river and Skinners Falls. One of the pleasures of canoeing under the bridge was to canoe through Skinners Falls which is a really nice shelf of rocks that makes a beautiful rapids there, everyone knows Skinners Falls. That’s why the bridge is called the Skinners Falls bridge but the company that built it, Milton Skinners company, was called the Milanville Bridge Company and was known as the Milanville bridge for a long, long time. Asked which way the students tend to lean politically he said, “I hear kids on both sides, for Hillary Clinton, for Donald Trump, even a little bit for Gary Johnson, the Libertarian candidate, so my sense is that it pret- ty much mirrors what you would find talking on the street on Main St. Narrowsburg or at Ted’s Diner in Jeffersonville.” He said when he’s teaching about the election he cov- ers the issues, the candidates and the process.
