Q, How much does the wedge cost? The total cost for a Cremation Wedge is £545 inclusive of ALL Lettering, Fixing, V.A.T. & Cemetery Fee.

Q, Who owns the wedge? The wedge is always owned by the customer but the cemetery space is leased.

Q, How long is the cemetery lease? The cemetery space is leased for an initial period of 20 years; after this time the lease can be extended in 10 year intervals by payment of an additional cemetery fee to Bereavement Services office.

Q, Do I have a choice of granite colour for the wedge? No, to maintain uniformity in the cemetery all wedges will be made in everlasting sea grey granite with dove grey painted letters.

Q, Can I commemorate more than one person, either now or in the future? Yes, the wedges can accommodate more names and inscriptions in the future.

Q, Can I choose my preferred garden for the wedge? Yes, each garden bed has a letter and number assigned for identification e.g. D1 Please identify the rose bed required before making contact.

Q, Can I reserve a specific position for my wedge? No, customers will be assigned the next available wedge to the right hand side. ALL Cremation Wedges are placed from left-to-right.

Q, How much does the Ashes Burial in the Heather section cost? Heather Plots are available from £895.

This price includes the purchase of an ash plot, the interment of ashes, the right to erect a new memorial on the plot and the block paving surround.

Q, Are there other ash plot sections available elsewhere? Yes, other ash plot sections are available in Pleasington & Darwen Old Cemeteries from £745 but these plots do not include the block paving surround.

Q, How can I record the name and details of the deceased? You are able to purchase an upright headstone for the grave.

Prices start from approximately £495. Please contact your local stonemason.

Q, Can I commemorate more than one person on the memorial, either now or in the future? Yes, the memorials can accommodate more names and inscriptions in the future. Further advice and a no obligation scale drawing can be produced allowing you to visualise how the final memorial will look; this can then be shared between family and friends.

02 Ashes Burial in Existing Grave

Available at all Blackburn & Darwen Cemeteries

Q, Can I bury ashes in a family grave? Yes, after a cremation the ashes can be buried in a family grave if you are the owner. This does not take up any additional space within the grave.

This must be arranged through the Bereavement Services office.

Q, How can I record the name and details of the deceased? If there is space, the name and details can be recorded on any existing family memorial from approximately £345. Please contact your local stonemason.

Alternatively the existing memorial can be replaced with a new memorial incorporating all the names, with the option to leave space for further names in the future.

Starting from approximately £495.

A second alternative would be to place an additional small sloping wedge or vase containing the new name(s) directly in front of the existing memorial. Considerations for mowing machines must be taken into account. Starting from approximately £195.

A cemetery fee of £95 is payable to the cemetery for the interment of ashes. An additional cemetery fee of £30 is required for any additional inscriptions or replacement memorials.

03 Commemorative Trees

Q, How much does a Commemorative Tree cost? The total cost for a Commemorative Tree is £945 inclusive of ALL Lettering, Fixing, V.A.T. & Cemetery Fee.

Q, Who owns the Commemorative Tree? The sloping granite wedge is always owned by the customer but the tree is sponsored and remains the property of the council.

Q, What is included? A tree, sea grey granite sloping wedge with lettering and beige granite kerb surround.

Q, Do I have a choice of colour for the granite wedge and surround? No, to maintain the uniformity of the cemetery the wedges will be made in sea grey granite with dove grey (off white) painted letters, this will then be fixed onto a beige surround.

Q, Can I reserve a specific location within the cemetery for my Tree? Yes, trees are available for sponsorship and will have a granite surround in place. Each of the granite surrounds in place will have a unique number to identify the location within the cemetery. If you see the number on a tree surround without a wedge then this indicates availability.

04 Floral Area Wall Plaques

Q, How much does a Floral Area Wall Plaque cost? Two types of wall plaques are available; column panel plaques at £95 and individual plaques at £195.

Both totals are inclusive of ALL Lettering, Fixing & V.A.T.

Q, Who owns the Plaque? The individual plaques are owned by the customer.

The column plaques are owned by the Council, as is the beige granite wall itself.

Q, Do I have a choice of colour for the granite plaque? No, to maintain the uniformity of the area the granite plaques will be made in sea grey granite with dove grey (off white) painted letters; these are then fixed onto a beige wall.

Q, How long is the lease for the plaques? The cemetery space is leased for an initial period of 20 years; after this time the lease can be extended in 10 year intervals by payment of an additional cemetery fee to Blackburn with Darwen Bereavement Services.

Q, Can I reserve a specific location on the walls for my plaque? Yes, you can specify the place for the individual plaques only, if space is available. However the column plaques are allocated on the next available space.

05 Individual Benches

Q, How much does an individual bench cost? The total cost for a Memorial Bench starts at £945 inclusive of ALL Lettering, Fixing, Cemetery Fee, V.A.T. & 5 Year Memorial Insurance.

Q, Who owns the bench? The bench is always owned by the customer but the cemetery space is leased.

Q, How long is the cemetery lease? The cemetery space can be leased for an initial period of 20 years; after this time the lease can be extended in 10 year intervals by payment of an additional cemetery fee to Blackburn with Darwen Bereavement Services.

Q, What happens when the 5 year insurance expires? Once the 5 year inclusive insurance expires on the Bench the insurance company will write to you with the option of renewing for a further 5 years. This will be optional but is highly recommended due to the bench being used by other members of the public. If the bench becomes unsafe beyond repair it will have to be removed from the cemetery.

Q, Can I choose my preferred location for the bench? Yes, you have choice of location, but this must be agreed in advance with the Bereavement Services office.

09 The Book of Remembrance

Q, Can you provide me more information about the book? The book, in eight volumes, is handmade throughout with leaves of the finest parchment and bound in natural calf vellum. The cover bears the Coat of Arms of the Borough in full colour and is richly decorated with gold leaf tooling and cabouchons of semi-precious stones.

Four pages of the books are allocated to each day of the year, and the book is displayed open at the corresponding day, in a protective glass case, so that the memorial entries may be seen on each anniversary. The book is located in the Crematorium Chapel to provide a lasting memorial. With prior arrangement the book may be turned to another page for viewing.
