RE: AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL WOMEN’S TEAM 2016 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS CAMPAIGN

This invitation is open to all female ice hockey players who are Australian citizens 15 years of age and over.

This letter serves to give you the initial information available to us at present with regards to the National Women’s Team (NWT) plans for 2016.

The 2016 Women’s World Championships Div II (Group B) will be held in Ankara, Turkey from February 29th to March 6th, 2016. The selection camp to assemble the NWT Squad will be held in (O’Brian Group Arena – formally trading as Medibank ) on the Saturday to Monday of December 12th-14th.

In 2016 we welcome Lindsay McAlpine as Head Coach with Jo Frankenberger and Stewart Philps as Assistant Coaches and John Botterill as Coaching Advisor. James McConnell will be returning as the NWT trainer and we welcome Adrianna McCann as our new physiotherapist. These individuals have committed to joining our management team to ensure that the coaching, fitness and health of all players is maintained at the highest level throughout the Turkey 2016 campaign.

Attached you will find further information on the NWT training camps, pre-Worlds camp in the Czech Republic, World Championships in Turkey and estimated costing’s. The travel dates have been locked in and will not change therefore you will be able to see the commitment required for this campaign. The selected team will depart Australia on Wednesday February 17th (evening) and return back to Australia on Wednesday March 9th (morning) 2016.

As the NWT coaching staff will be following the AWIHL, player selection will be based on performances in the AWIHL 2015/16 season. It is preferable that all Australian based players play in the AWIHL. Selection of players will be based on attitude, fitness, skill and hockey sense. For all Australian based players, we would like to reiterate that in order to be eligible for selection to the 2015 NWT, you MUST attend the December 12-14th Selection Camp in Melbourne.

COSTS

The approximate costs below include everything (flights, accommodation, food, ice, transport etc) except your flights to Melbourne for the Selection Camp in December. You will need to organise these flight yourself.

Selected NWT Player Total Cost = $4650 (Includes all the above except flights to/from the Selection Camp in Melbourne)

NWT Overseas Player Cost = $1150 (Includes Pre-worlds training camp in Czech Republic and Worlds in Turkey, does not include flights)

Unsuccessful Squad Members Cost (including Reserves) = $450 (includes Selection Camp in Melbourne)

We ask that you:

1. Send us via email a confirmation of receipt of this letter so we are aware who has received and read these details. 2. Submit expressions of interest for the December Selection Camp to Emma Poynton by FRIDAY 18th SEPTEMBER 2015.

Information will be forwarded to you about Selection Camp and the pre-camp training expectations when we confirm your attendance. A $450 deposit is applicable at time of attendance confirmation and due no later than Friday 15th September 2015. Deposits can be made directly into the NWT account as follows:

2016 National Women’s Team Coaching Staff

LINDSAY MCALPINE – NWT HEAD COACH

Lindsay is a graduate of the BPE/BEd program at the University of Alberta and further, completed her Masters of Arts in the Faculty of Physical Education and Recreation, specializing in sport sociology with extended interest in elite women’s ice hockey.

She was a member of the University of Alberta Pandas Ice Hockey Team for all six years of her undergraduate degrees, and was fortunate to be a part of five national championships (Canadian Interuniversity Sport). In her final season with the Pandas, she was named CIS Player of the Year, National Tournament MVP, and First Team All-Canadian. Since this time, she has moved move extensively into coaching, returning first to the U of A as a Graduate Assistant Coach, and then moving into her current position of Head Coach at MacEwan University.

Outside of being a player and coach at the elite level, Lindsay remains heavily involved in the grassroots sporting community in various coaching capacities. She was recently the Head Coach for Team Alberta U-16 Challenge Cup, and a mentor coach for the U-18 Team Alberta program. Further, she is a teacher at Vimy Ridge Academy, where she is responsible for teaching the Hockey Program to Midget AAA boys. Lindsay also head instructs and co-own High Tempo Hockey™, which is an all-female hockey school and conditioning camp. She has also been heavily involved with Edmonton Girls Hockey Association for 12 years.

Lindsay is excited about the opportunity to work with Team Australia, and move into the International level of the sport. She hopes to bring young energy, strong work ethic and a willingness to grow to this coaching position.

JO FRANKENBERGER – NWT ASSISTANT COACH

Jo is a Perth Western Australia based coach who coaches all levels of hockey from grassroots up to adult leagues. Her playing experience has included local leagues and AWIHL Goannas team.

Jo’s national appointments have included Assistant Coach of the Australian Girls Under 18's program for the last three years including the team’s international tours to Japan, New Zealand and Denmark. Jo also Assistant Coached the Australian males Bantam tour to New Zealand in 2012 and has coached at IHA Development Camps.

Jo’s state appointments have included support, assistant and head coaching positions on Ginsberg, Tange and Brown State teams as well as Western Australia based Australian Junior Ice Hockey league teams. Results have included two Bronze medals and 1 Gold.

Offering individual player development via her coaching Jo has recently coached Australia’s female Youth Olympic Games representative. As a result this athlete successfully qualified, placing 3rd out of 31 countries, and will now compete at the 2016 Youth Olympic Games.

She is heavily involved in local hockey with roles including Women's Director and Coaching Director for the State for two years each and Coaching Coordinator within a local club for two years. Locally Jo coached the men's super league team for 6 years and has 3 league titles.

STU PHILPS – NWT ASSISTANT COACH

Following a success 15 year playing career in the Australian Ice Hockey League (AHIL) with the Knights, 6 years playing on the Australian Men’s Inline Hockey Team and spending time playing both professional leagues of ice and inline hockey in Finland Stu graduated into coaching.

As a coach Stu has been a player/coach initially at the Canberra Knights (AIHL) and then following retirement from playing Stu was appointed Assistant Coach of the newly formed CBR Brave in their inaugural AIHL season in 2014.

At the World Championship level Stu has been the Head Coach of the Australian Inline Team for the past three years which has seen the team compete in the gold medal games at both the 2014 and 2015 World Championships.
