Other new and altered motions and amendments

*S6M-00439 Liam McArthur: Orkney Leads Europe with Hydrogen Powered Ferry Development—That the Parliament notes the award of a contract to Aqualisbraemar LOC Group to design Europe's first passenger ferry powered by hydrogen in Orkney; understands the design tender has been awarded by Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd through the HySeas III project; notes that the aim is for the hydrogen ferry to pave the way for the future replacement of the inter-isles fleet in Orkney; understands that the ferry design would have capacity for 120 passengers, 16 cars and two trucks and is set to be tested between Kirkwall and Shapinsay; believes that Orkney is leading the world in decarbonisation through its major marine renewables and hydrogen programmes; congratulates all involved with this project and the wider development of hydrogen in Orkney, and looks forward to seeing the plans become reality in the near future.

*S6M-00438 Liam McArthur: MS Fundraisers in Northern Isles Reach £20K Target at Halfway Mark—That the Parliament congratulates fundraisers in Orkney and Shetland on raising over £20,000 for the MS Trust; notes that this tremendous achievement has been reached at the halfway stage of a 100-day campaign challenge; understands that those involved in Orkney and Shetland have been battling it out to raise the most funds for the past seven weeks in the "Mission 100" challenge; pays tribute to the organisers, Hayley Budge from Orkney and Amy Uren from Shetland, for their commendable efforts as stalwarts for MS awareness in the Northern Isles; recognises the exceptional enthusiasm of Orkney's fundraisers, including Hamish Fleet, aged nine, who has raised over £1,000 with a sponsored cycle, and Edna Jenkinson, aged 92, for her hand-painted stone designs; highlights that Orkney and Shetland have a particularly high prevalence of MS, with Orkney found to have the highest rate in the world in 2012; acknowledges the work of the MS Society Orkney Group in providing invaluable support to those affected by MS and in raising awareness among the community; thanks everyone who has fundraised or donated to the ongoing Mission 100; notes that there is a dedicated Facebook page, Mission:100 Orkney vs Shetland, for anyone interested in donating, and wishes all the very best of success for the next leg of the fundraiser.

Motions | Gluasadan cancellation last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic; understands that the festival will use primarily outdoor venues across Orkney’s wonderful landscape, bringing artists and audiences back together to rediscover the joy of live performances at midsummer; notes that, in addition to live performances, the festival is offering a range of online content filmed in venues across Orkney during May and June; highlights the involvement of many local charities and organisations in a festival that has celebrated the exceptional arts and cultural life in Orkney since 1977; congratulates the hard work of the festival organisers in pulling together the 2021 schedule in the context of tight COVID-19 restrictions, and wishes everyone involved a successful festival.

*S6M-00436 Stuart McMillan: Jonny Roy Named Colin Wilson Mackie Coach of the Year — That the Parliament congratulates Jonny Roy from Greenock on being named the Colin Wilson Mackie Coach of the Year by Morton in the Community; understands that the 28-year-old health project worker has been working tirelessly during the COVID-19 pandemic and volunteered his time while on furlough to assist the lifeline mental health group, TeamTalk; notes that Jonny also works with schools, care homes and organises walking football sessions to support older members of the community looking to stay active; appreciates that the prize is awarded in memory of lifelong Morton fan, Colin Mackie, whose family donated money to the club after he passed away; believes that this award is a testament to Jonny’s dedication to helping people in Inverclyde stay active, no matter their age or fitness levels, and wishes him all the best for the future.

*S6M-00435 Jenni Minto: The Herald Award for Travelling Tabby—That the Parliament notes the recent success of the Argyll College UHI student, John Frace, who is from and is also known as Travelling Tabby, in winning The Herald Award for Outstanding Contribution from a University Student; commends John for his outstanding work throughout the COVID-19 pandemic providing accessible information and statistics online in an extremely user-friendly format, and recognises that this was done on an entirely voluntary basis.

*S6M-00433 : Kilwinning Man Completes Running Challenge—That the Parliament congratulates the Kilwinning man, Craig Potter, on completing a running challenge to raise money for charity; understands that Craig completed 47 10K runs and raised over £14,500 for Heart Research UK; further understands that, on average, 47 people in Scotland die each day due to cardiovascular disease; notes that the challenge was in memory of his mother, who passed away suddenly; further notes that the money will be donated to two research funds in her memory, one of which will investigate the way women are affected by heart disease, and the other will examine statistics showing that a person in Scotland is three times more likely to experience a heart attack than someone in London; congratulates Craig on his incredible achievement, and wishes him all the best of the future.

*S6M-00432 Ruth Maguire: Irvine Trombone Player Wins Top Brass—That the Parliament congratulates the Irvine trombone player, Lewis Bettles, on winning the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland’s Governors' Prize for Brass competition; notes that, in addition, he was awarded the George Reynolds Development Bursary, which will help towards his musical studies; understands that Lewis is the conductor for the Irvine and Dreghorn Brass Band; congratulates him again on winning this prestigious award, and wishes him the very best with his musical career.

*S6M-00431 Ruth Maguire: Irvine Pupil Cleans Up—That the Parliament congratulates nine- year-old Oliver Leishman, a pupil at Elderbank Primary School, on his dedication and hard work in clearing litter from Irvine Beach; understands that the young environmentalist spends his weekends and school holidays clearing litter from the beach to ensure it does not get washed into the sea; notes that his interest in the environment was triggered by a documentary on the effects

*S6M-00426 : UK Aid Cuts Will Contribute to Untold Global Suffering—That the Parliament condemns the reported decision of the UK Government to reduce the annual foreign aid budget from 0.7% to 0.5% of national income, resulting in a reported cut of almost £4 billion to lifesaving work against starvation, illness and child mortality; believes that this will see UK funding reduced by about 60% for UNICEF, by around 85% for the UN's family planning agency, by about 80% for UNAIDS, and that the World Health Organization's (WHO) Global Polio Eradication Initiative will lose nearly all its UK funding; understands that this move comes at a time when a number of other developed countries have proposed an increase in spending, including the United States and France; appreciates reported criticism of the cuts from within the Conservative Party, opposition MPs, the UN, the WHO and dozens of charities; notes the statement from the WHO, which says that the cuts would leave millions of the world's poorest people at risk of dying from so- called neglected tropical diseases that are preventable, but without treatment can kill, blind, disfigure and maim; understands that the WHO has stated that it is probable that 277 million tablets would expire and have to be incinerated due to the cuts from the UK aid budget; further understands that Yemen is one of the top recipients of UK bilateral aid and is currently facing one of the world's worst humanitarian disasters, yet, despite this, the UK's commitment to relief efforts for 2021 will be reduced by nearly £52 million compared with last year; is shocked that the UK Government has reportedly admitted that no assessment has been carried out of how “dire” the impact of the reported 60% cut in foreign aid to Yemen will be despite the warning from the UN that Yemen could be facing the worst famine in modern history, with more than 16 million Yemenis being “food insecure”, nearly 50,000 already facing famine-like conditions, and a further five million only one step away from the same conditions; recognises that the 0.7% of total or gross national income commitment to international aid is a UN-backed target, dating back to the 1970s and was enshrined into law in 2015; is appalled by the UK Government's reported decision to not commit to the target, and believes that its actions will directly contribute to untold global suffering at a time when all countries should be working together to eradicate that suffering. Supported by: *, Ross Greer*, *, *, *, Stuart McMillan*, Kenneth Gibson*, Pauline McNeill*

*S6M-00422 Craig Hoy: Knox Academy's Pride Month LGBT+ Inclusion Celebrations—That the Parliament congratulates Knox Academy pupils in Haddington on their Pride Month LGBT+ celebrations; welcomes the efforts by headteacher, Sue Cook, teachers, staff and pupils to institute a programme of Pride related activities; further welcomes efforts to promote LGBT+ inclusion in schools, and wishes the school well on its efforts in working towards the silver LGBT Charter.
