IFSC WORLD CUP :

SPORT CLIMBING ACTION AT THE FOOT

OF THE NORDKETTE

From May 17th - 18th the world's best climbers are competing for deciding points in the IFSC Bouldering World Cup at the foot of the Nordkette. After a successful premiere in the previous year the home of Bouldering queen Anna Stöhr is again the venue of the second World Cup competition in this season!

Nestled in the impressive panorama of the Nordkette and only a stone's throw from the Golden Roof ("Goldenes Dachl") the Marktplatz in Innsbruck has always been the vibrant centre of the Tyrolean capital. With the first IFSC Bouldering World Cup on Innsbruck soil in 2012 the Blocmaster Climbing Festival, the oldest in city Bouldering festival in Europe, has officially been raised to top-level competition standards. And this event whetted all climbing Tuesday fans' appetite for more: 3.500 enthusiastic fans and spectators alone at the final celebrated 14 a great climbing party in May last year! One day after the official Blocmaster kick-off on Thursday, May 16th, the pros are getting to work. Strong competition for season dominator Anna Stöhr (four victories in four competitions) can - as usually - be expected with Japan's Bouldering star Akyio Noguchi, followed by GB's youngster Shauna Coxsey and US-girl Alex Puccio as well as Melissa Le Neve, winner of the bronze medal in Innsbruck 2012. In the men's competition all signs are pointing to a hotly contested podium: Besides reigning world champion Dmitrii Sharafudtinov and his compatriot and Bouldering Overall winner 2012, Rustam Gelmanov, it's also on allrounder Jakob Schubert to sound the attack on his teammate and winner of 2012 in Innsbruck, Kilian Fischhuber. At the start as well: Fledgling World Cup winner Sean McColl (first in Log Dragomer), European champion 2010 in Innsbruck Cédric Lachat and Bouldering ace Guillaume Glairon Mondet.

The semi-final in Innsbruck is starting on Saturday, May 18th, from 12.30 p.m., the final showdown will take place from 7.30 p.m the same day. Live stream and further information as usually on www.ifsc-climbing.org!
