AROUND THE GROUNDS WITH HARRY

Long grass and rain welcomed back our juniors from their summer break with most of round eight’s matches being reduced to limited over games on the second week. Two of the Club’s best performers Harry Tattersall (14A) and Andrew Ritchie (12A) continued their consistent form, Harry scored 58no and took 2 for 15 while Andrew hit up 53no. Both their team’s had good wins over Caringbah Sports. The 16C's continued their winning form in defeating Bangor and in doing so have moved into first place. Anuraag Varanasi top scored with 33 with Ben Barford (3 for 27) and Jack Schuetrim (3 for 22) taking the . Our 14E’s slipped into second place with a valuable win over Bosco with both Corey Bryant (41) and Bradley James (37) scoring the bulk of the runs. In other matches Troy Schulz scored 31 in his 12C team’s narrow two run defeat at the hands of Gymea Bay while Dylan Rae took 5 for 12 and Dylan Koprivec 44 contributed greatly to their 16A team’s win over Gymea Bay. With only 2 matches left until the finals there are 5 teams still in contention - 16A, 16C, 14A, 14E and 10C teams.

Our seniors only having a short break have racked up three rounds of since the last newsletter, unfortunately most of the sides have been on the losing end of the score sheet. As the teams move into their last round for the season our A1, B1-1, B4 and C1 teams are still in the running for a place in the semi finals while the B6 side only needs to beat last placed Gymea Bay to take out the Minor Premiership. Best performers over the three rounds have been Darren McInnes (A1) 88no, Kurt McKinlay (B7) 75no, Adam Pascoe (B1-2) 74no, Lynden Brewer (B7) 72, Drew Lake (B1-2) 64, James Stone (A1) 63no, Luke Richards (B6) 60, Matt Barnes (B6) 50, Adam Pascoe (B1-2) 5 for 27, Matt Russell 4 for 14, Joel Manns (B1-1) 4 for 22, James Andrew (B3) 4 for 37, Kurt Mitchell (B2) 4 for 41 and Mark Varley (B4) 4 for 45.

The club is proud of its success in developing players to compete at the higher level with thirteen Dragons players at present playing grade cricket. Headed by brilliant Sutherland 1st grade all-rounder Ben Dwarshuis a member of the NSW U/19 team where he averaged 52 runs in the Australian carnival. Ben now has scored over 2000 runs for the Sutherland club in all grades and has only just turned 18. Robbie Knight his coach during his time at the Dragons always said he was something special. keeper batsman Nathan Loder (124) just scored his maiden century while playing 2nd grade and his teammate James Bills took 4 for 71 in the last round. Round twelve saw Ryan Almond (118) score a century in 3rd grade, Sam Newman 62 and Matt Sambuco 66no. Tim Cutler plays 2nd grade for Eastern Suburbs as a left hand spinner, last week he captured the match figures of 9 for 35 runs. Ben Marciante playing first grade for Randwick Petersham took the wicket of Australia’s . His brother Nathan has had a great season in club cricket and also for Sutherland’s AW Green Shield team, scoring 265 runs and taking 14 wickets over the series and winning selection into the No.1 Green Shield team to play NSW Country. His teammates Dane Fisher, Alex Roberts and Dylan Koprivec all played with distinction with Dane scoring 273 runs and Alex taking 12 wickets. The Sutherland team coached by Matt Bradley and assisted by Peter Schofield was defeated in the Final by Fairfield Liverpool.
