DAI029 DAI029 15 X 15 CROSSWORD CONVENTIONAL DAILY THE FORSTER TUNCURRY 3rd February 2020

Sport Page 20 Newcomers compete in ‘Try A Tri’ Bluewater Fishing Club’s at Forster Keys report for January

Our club held its monthly outing on weekend of 16/17th January 2021, unfortunately we were only able to fish on the Sunday due to sea conditions. All members found it very difficult to find and catch many fish. We had 6 boats with 11 members fish on the day with only 54 fish caught with a combined weight of 36.1 kilos. Most points for the day was won by Martyn Barry with only 156.6 points. Runner up prizes were awarded to Frank Harshman, (Flathead), Julian Korol (Snapper), with no takers for Teraglin. Winners on the day were Garry Smith, (Flathead), Martyn Barry, (Snapper 6.820 kilos) and new member Julian Korol (Teraglin). The Club Forster Bluewater Fishing Club conducts fishing competitions on the weekend of the third Sunday of each month if conditions are favourable. Fishing competitions are offshore from Forster, from midnight Friday to 3pm Sunday. The weigh-in is adjacent to the Forster Harbour Boat Ramp from 2.30pm Sunday. Not only is our club a fishing club it is also a social club and members are welcome to come and join us whether they have fished or not. A luncheon and monthly prize presentation are held at Club Forster at 1.00pm on the 4th Sunday of each month. If anyone is interested in joining our club, Above: Forster Triathlon President Margaret please come to Club Forster to enquire or come Gordon and Leighton Hooper cross the finish down to our weigh-in on the third Sunday of line together. each month at 2.30pm. On the 17th of January many newcomers All of the fish that are caught that are of DPI enjoyed their first ever go at a triathlon regulations and or club BY LAWS, are either when Forster Triathlon Club hosted their eaten by our members that catch them, or ‘Try A Tri’ at Forster Keys. This was a sprint given away to their friends or family. Also, distance event with a 300m swim, 12km there is a bag limit as to how many fish of each ride and a 3km run. A shorter but still species can be caught. challenging distance. Franklin Harshman President of the Forster Tri Club Margaret Below: Photo supplied of Martyn Barry with a Gordan said, “It was a fantastic morning 6.820 kilo snapper. with beautiful weather, sunny skies, no wind and a great water temperature. A whole host of newcomers came down. We were excited to introduce all these new people to our favourite sport and do so in such a friendly and supportive environment.” Visitor Jo from Nelson Bay said, “I did enjoy the ‘All Girls Tri’ last year here and found it to be amazing. Really well organised and lots of support. I just wanted to personally beat my own time [today] and have the persistence to finish it. I achieved that today. So, if anyone wants to have a go -try a tri. It’s great.” Mary Yule Photos supplied.
