Royal Liver Building

eTwinning Project By Amaya Class 4 – Forefield Infant and Nursery School Hi, I am Amaya and I am 5 years old (nearly 6).

I live in and I am in Class 4 in Forefield School. I will tell you all about the Royal Liver Building. Royal Liver Building • Opened in 1911 • One of the first buildings in the world to be built using reinforced concrete. • Was built as offices for the 6,000 employees of the Royal Liver Group. • Designed by Walter Aubrey Thomas. • It has 13 floors and is 300 ft tall • It is located on Liverpool waterfront • Important Liverpool Icon – Grade I listed building Three Graces

• Legend has it that: • One giant bird looks over the city to protect its people. • The other giant bird looks out to sea at the new sailors coming to port.

• It is often said if one of the birds were to fly away the city of Liverpool would cease to exist.

• It has a pair of big clock faces which are 25ft in diameter.

• The clocks are even bigger then Big Ben in London!

• As they built so as a ship passed along the river, mariners could tell the time by looking at them. Liver Building Today

• It is part of Liverpool's UNESCO – designed World Heritage Maritime Mercantile City • In 2019 – visitor attraction opened allowing people to tour the West Clock Tower. • It is still offices for many companies and my Daddy works there too .
