PAC-12 GYMNASTICS WEEKLY RELEASE // February 6, 2013 4 PAC-12 GYMNASTICS NOTES ARIZONA The Wildcats look to get back in the win column after two tough losses for two weeks. Arizona takes a week off of Pac-12 competition when they head to the Windy City for the Chicago Style meet where they will face Pittsburgh, Texas Woman’s and Illinois State. The team hit 23 of 24 routines last weekend but wasn’t enough to beat fellow Pac-12 member Washington.

ARIZONA STATE Despite posting a team season high on two events the Sun Devils couldn’t pull off a win on the road at then-No.9 Utah. The Sun Devils had a strong showing from multiple gymnasts in the road loss. With a quick turnaround the team returns home this week to face No. 12 Oregon State on Thursday, Feb. 8 at 7 p.m. MT.S

CALIFORNIA After facing adversity before the meet with senior all-arounder Mariesah Pierce out for the meet the Golden Bears rallied together for a strong performance that fell just short to then-No. 14 Oregon State, 194.700-196.050. The team put together their second-best event score on beam for the season and had only five competitors on the vault with the team responding by posting a 48.825. The Golden Bears hit the road this week traveling to No. 7 Utah on Friday, Feb. 9 at 7 p.m. MT.

OREGON STATE The Beavers put in a strong performance on the road to top California 196.050-194.700. The Beavers claimed three individual event titles as well as the individual all-around. By the third rotation the Beavers were up by nearly a full point. The team was tested on both bars and beam with early falls but proved their strength with everyone else hitting and avoided having to count a fall. Oregon State stays on the road at the travel to Arizona State on Thursday, Feb. 8 at 7 p.m. MT.

STANFORD In a tough fought meet the Cardinal fell to UCLA in front of a capacity crowd of just over 1,500 people last weekend. The meet was close to the very end. Stanford suffered two falls on bars but came back in the next rotation with a season-high beam score. The Cardinal has the next two weeks off of competition after having five meets in the past four weeks, all being spent on the road until this past weekend.

UCLA After their second week on the road the Bruins showed their a strong team both at home and away as they pulled in their fourth victory to improve to 3-0 in Pac-12 competition and 4-0 overall. Senior Vanessa Zamarripa was named the Pac-12 Gymnast of the Week after her per- formance where she won vault with a perfect 10.0, as well as won floor and the all-around. She tied for second on beam and bars. Freshman Danusia Francis claimed the Pac-12 Newcomer of the Week after winning the beam title in the meet with a career-high 9.925. The Bruins return home this week for a meet against No. 25 Washington, Sacramento State and UC Davis on Saturday, Feb. 10 at 2 p.m. PT

UTAH It was an emotional victory for the Utes as they improved to 3-1 in Pac-12 competition, but suffered the loss of All-American and team co- captain Corrie Lothrop for the remainder of the season. Lothrop ruptured her Achilles during floor warm-up. The team rallied together and showcased amazing performances on the night, including some from Pac-12 Specialist of the Week Tory Wilson The Utes will stay home this week as they host California on Friday, Feb. 9 at 7 p.m. MT.

WASHINGTON An amazing performance last weekend sprung the Huskies up into the Top 25 in the nation for the first time this season. The team claimed the all-around and all four individual event titles on the night. With season highs posted on three of the four events the total team score of 196.023 was the best for the Huskies in 2013 by over a point. Almost every Husky that competed scored at least a season-high if not a career-high. The team hits the road traveling to No. 4 UCLA on Saturday, Feb. 10 at 2 p.m. PT where they will also face Sacramento State and UC Davis.
