The ancient town of lies in North West on the banks of the Thames estuary. It is a place that benefits from not only a superb array of shops and amenities, but also excellent transport links, including a high-speed rail link to central . Nestled on a quiet lane on the rural outskirts of the town is Eastcourt Oast, an extremely attractive family home that was beautifully converted from an old Oast House in the 1980s. It is enveloped by just under 3.5 acres of glorious grounds and enjoys a setting that is picturesque, tranquil and wonderfully convenient.

“We purchased the property around 26 years ago,” says Mary, “not too long after it had been converted. My father was coming to live with us and so what really attracted us was the space and the fact that the land around the house is wonderfully flat, so it meant he was able to get around very easily.”

This beautiful home has a traditional layout and generously proportioned rooms, making it ideal for modern family life. The lovely farmhouse-style kitchen is situated in the roundel, making it a real feature of the property, and the spacious living room enjoys magnificent views over the surrounding countryside. During the summer months, French doors can be flung open to bring the outside in and allow everyday life to spill out onto the patio and the stunning grounds beyond.

“The garden is beautiful, very peaceful and we’re not at all overlooked,” says Mary. “It’s a very sunny space during the summer months and I particularly love the fact that we can sit out and see nobody. Within the grounds we also have a couple of paddocks and stables, as our daughter kept horses when she was younger. As a family we loved having all of this space, it was wonderful for the children and now the grandchildren love to come and visit, but it now needs a new family to fill the house and enjoy all that our surroundings have to offer.”

“I would say that my favourite part of the house is probably the kitchen,” says Mary. “The Aga keeps it wonderfully cosy and warm during the winter months and it’s just a lovely place to sit quietly with a cup of tea.”

“What we have loved most about living here is the fact that we enjoy countryside living an yet we are just on the outskirts of a thriving town,” says Mary, “and so we are able to enjoy the best of both worlds.“

“I think what we’ll both miss about this house is the feeling of seclusion,” says Mary. “We have the town close by, but you drive down past the beautiful Norman church, along the lane, through the gates and we’re in our own peaceful world. It has been a wonderful home.”*
