Throughout this time, it has left an indelible mark on the Australian football landscape. Currently based in Melbourne’s outer-northern suburbs, the club was originally created as a focal point for the newly Contact women's co-ordinator on 0432 876 486 or immigrated Macedonian community to gather, socialise and provide the Australian- Macedonian youth with the opportunity to learn and play the ‘world game’ that was so popular [email protected] back in their homeland of Macedonia. The Makedonia Soccer Club, as it was originally known, became a registered member of the Victorian Soccer Federation in 1959 and began playing in sanctioned competition. However, the club was established as far back as 1947 when members from the local Macedonian community began kicking a soccer ball around near the site of the current day Melbourne Zoo, at Royal Park in Parkville. Who would have thought back then that those tentative steps would lead to the development of a sporting icon in the Australian-Macedonian community that would go on to achieve such success at the highest level of football competition in this country, some 30-40 years later. The club was given an opportunity to submit an application to enter the flourishing National Soccer League competition and after satisfying a number of stringent criteria, were promoted to that league in 1981, finally recognising a dream for so many of the club’s hard working members, volunteers, players and supporters. Preston continued to compete successfully in the NSL for the next 13 seasons, finishing in the top five on five separate occasions and runner-up twice. Some of the other major achievements during that time included reaching the final of all three major competitions in 1985 – the NSL Cup Final, Dockerty Cup Final and the Southern Division Grand Final; taking out the 1991 Gold Cup Night Series; and then finally bringing home the prestigious Dockerty Cup trophy in 1992 in a thrilling penalty shootout against arch rivals South Melbourne, a memory the Preston faithful hold very close to their hearts.

PARLIAMENT OF VICTORIA PARLIAMENTARY DEBATES (HANSARD) LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY FIFTY-EIGHTH PARLIAMENT FIRST SESSION Book 12 13, 14 and 15 September 2016 Internet: www.parliament.vic.gov.au/downloadhansard By authority of the Victorian Government Printer Following a select committee investigation, Victorian Hansard was conceived when the following amended motion was passed by the Legislative Assembly on 23 June 1865: That in the opinion of this house, provision should be made to secure a more accurate report of the debates in Parliament, in the form of Hansard. The sessional volume for the first sitting period of the Fifth Parliament, from 12 February to 10 April 1866, contains the following preface dated 11 April: As a preface to the first volume of “Parliamentary Debates” (new series), it is not inappropriate to state that prior to the Fifth Parliament of Victoria the newspapers of the day virtually supplied the only records of the debates of the Legislature. With the commencement of the Fifth Parliament, however, an independent report was furnished by a special staff of reporters, and issued in weekly parts. This volume contains the complete reports of the proceedings of both Houses during the past session. In 2016 the Hansard Unit of the Department of Parliamentary Services continues the work begun 150 years ago of providing an accurate and complete report of the proceedings of both houses of the Victorian Parliament. The A-League was initially established under the guise of a “one-team-one-city” North American model and restricted itself to private-equity franchises that could raise start-up capital of AUD1 million. The shift to the A-League resulted in the ethnic community clubs, which had formed the backbone of the NSL, being relegated to the various states premier leagues. The authors use a Marxist analysis to explain how the transference of fans’ hopes and dreams on to the ethnic clubs and the transference by the part-time and volunteer labor forces of parts of themselves into the clubs have seen this accumulated capital (both financial and cul- tural) robbed and devalued by the A-League.

This gave us the opportunity to celebrate with staff, students and families at the Year 12 Class of 2016 Valedictory dinner last week. It was a wonderful opportunity to thank the students and their parents for the contributions made. Each student was presented with a graduation certificate and a gift from the College which we hope they will treasure. For 85 of the families (out of 136) this was the last child completing their schooling and hence it was quite an emotional time. Some families have been part of the College since it opened in 1999. Families were thanked for what they had contributed in establishing the school, building its culture and sense of community and for putting trust in the staff of the College with the education of their children. We wish the students of the Class of 2016 all the best for the future.
