Goals and Mission of The College / Institution

Shri Swami Vivekanand Shikshan Sanstha, Kolhapur runs our college. In addition to the goals of our institution, our college does have its own set of following goals - i)To impart qualitative and valuable service in the field of education to the residents of Karad and the rural area surrounding of Karad town . ii) To attain community and social development through infrastructural facilities of the college. iii) To increase the sense of integrity, honesty, co-operation, regularity amongst the students so that they contribute to society and nation as most responsible and respectable citizens of India and universe. i.e. glocal citizens. iv) To concentrate on the overall personality development of the students through various extra-curricular activities in association with various social and cultural organizations. v) To make education popular at the grass root level and thereby effecting social, and cultural development of the society at large. vi) To prepare the students to face the challenges with utmost utilization of their potential in all respects. vii) To prepare the students to face the terrible squarely and boldly .

Introduction

We are extremely elated to present The Annual Quality Assurance Report (AQAR) of our college for the Academic Year 2012-13 to NAAC. The second cycle of accreditation took place on 23,24 &25 August 2012.We have been accredited with 'B'grade (CGPA-2.52). When we compare our college before Accreditation and at present, we find ourselves changed tremendously. Our college always along with teachers, students, officers, stakeholders and well-wishers have been continuously in the process of development. We are always in favor of excellence for our college and students. We make better students for better future. We are more united and tied to achieve certain cherished goals that we have planned. There is always a room for development. We are determined to sustain and enhance the quality of education. Therefore, we have resolved ourselves to equip ourselves with modern technological aids that would make the progress in Teaching , Learning and Evaluation. We have geared-up ourselves to enlarge the world of experience, knowledge of our teachers in research and students by organizing State / National level seminars and workshops. We insist to galvanize the attitudes and approaches of students and teachers. After facing the 2nd Phase of NAAC, we have realized that we need more grooming. We have to overcome over shortfalls. We have to shoulder the responsibilities and redouble our efforts for betterment of our students and college and stakeholders .

Part A

The Plan of Action

Keeping in the mind, the Future Plan for the year 2012-13 given in AQAR of 2011-12, the members of the IQAC committee have set the plan ,it is as follows- 1) To arrange one general meeting of Alumni and then Alumni meetings of each department for the development of college and to enrich Departmental Library. 2) Preparing for the building construction. 3) To motivate maximum faculty members for preparing Major and Minor Research projects. 4) To gear up ourselves for preparations for the Third Cycle of NAAC. 5) Conducting some workshops for students and teachers to enrich their knowledge and experience. 6) To tie-up with E-Journals and E-Books Facilities. 7) To conduct some Workshops/Seminars for students & teachers to enrich their knowledge and experience.

Activities Reflecting Goals and Objectives of The College

Our college has a set of our goals and objectives. Maximum activities performed /organized/conducted in the college, reflect goals and objectives of our college. While performing these activities we keep in mind five core values given by NAAC. 1) National Integration - National Integration is the need of the time. We strongly believe that if all the youth are properly trained in the schools and colleges, a sense of National Integration will be definitely developed among them and it will be very useful for the nation building. As we teachers are nation builders and social engineers, we are shaping the society and nation in order to create the awareness of national integrity, our college celebrates national festivals like Republic Day, Independence Day, Youth Day and Birth and Death Anniversaries of Great Patriots, Social Reformers and Freedom Fighters. On such occasions, students, teachers and other members of society gather together which unite all of us forgetting our castes, creeds, religions, and regions and make them better citzens. 2) Social Development - All the constituents of the college are linked to be a part of the process of social development .They try to mix up with the society in many ways e.g. through staying in village with 100+ students in N.S.S. camp delivering lectures on various Social, Educational, National issues and participating many functions organized in the society. The N.S.S. Unit of our college is a great source for us for social development and cultural development. It gives platform to the students for public speaking, stage daring and to develop personality traits. International Population Day (16-07-2012) and International Literacy Day were celebrated by arranging lectures of Principal Dr. J.S. Patil. N.S.S. Special camp was organized from 28-11-2012 to 04-12-2012 at Kalwade Tal. Karad.100 volunteers participated in it.The programmes like cleaning village, building Vanrai bandhare . and total sanitation of Crematorium, road widening were conducted. The work done was of worth more than 5 lakh rupees. Our N.S.S. volunteers did a commendable job. Environment Preservation, Health, Public Sanitation and Personal Hygiene was the title of N.S.S. and "Not Me But You" is the motto of N.S.S.. Health Camp for the villagers and Health Check up Camp for Cattle, AIDS awareness Programme, Dental Check-up Camp, for holistic life, Women Empowerment programme, Lectures for Farmers, eradication of blind beliefs and outdated customs and Lectures of eminent speakers on various national, social, local and rural issues were discussed. Principal Dr. J.S. Patil, Dr. Kalidas Patil, Dr. Satish Ghatge, Dr. D.K. Gaikwad,( Co-ordinator, N.S.S. Shivaji University Kolhapur), Dr. S.K. Dhumal, Dr. Sonu Pal, Dr. Anil Lahoti , 3 Dr. Krushnat Jadhav, Dr. Shivprasad Mangle, Dr. Shobhna Rainak, Mr. Kishor Patil, Mr. Anil Mane, Mr.Sukumar Mandpe, Mr. Barkat Mujawar (PSI, Karad Police-station, Karad) etc. threw lights on many issues and guided the students as well as the villagers. All the speakers ignited and enkindled the minds of students and people from all walks of life. Shri. M.V.Patil and Shri. M.S.Surywanshi, Shri A.G.Thorat, Shri. Subhash Kamble, Shri Nagesh Chobe worked hard for the grand success of N.S.S. programme and special camp. Besides, on various social issues, problems, our Teachers (Faculty Members) delivered lectures at various places in various functions. Asso. Prof. Prakash Sitaram Bartakke worked as a Liaison Officer at Samarth Vidyapeeth, Shivtharghal Tal.-Mahad, Dist.-Raigad (Maharashtra) from 11/11/2012 to 24/11/2012. He propagated the teachings of Ramdas and Shivaji Maharaj to devotees and tourists form all walks of Life.

3)Cultural Development - Cultural Development of the students is attained through various programmes arranged in the college every now and then. Celebration of Teachers Day, , N.S.S. Special Camp, Youth Day, Youth Festival etc. give opportunities to our students for the cultural development. Singing ofN.S.S. songs, poets-gathering etc. were organized in the N.S.S. camp at Kalawade, Honourable Dr. Kalidas Patil ( A renowned Psychologist) addressed our students and explained the process of happy and holistic Life and happy home . The birth and death anniversaries of Dr. Bapuji Salunkhe, Mahatma Gandhi, Savitribai Phule, Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, Swami Vivekanand etc. were celebrated in the college with gaiety and fervour . On 23rd August 2012, our students performed Sanstha's Prayer (Hare Ram Hare ) National song, Folk Dance, Maharashtra song, Koli Dance and small speech before the NAAC Peer Team. Peer Team was greatly impressed by the performances of the students. These students unleashed their potentials and personality traits before the NAAC Peer Team. Hon'ble Mr. Sujit Katkar, PWD Officer, delivered a lecture on "'s Life and Personality " on 30th January 2013. The function was presided over by Hon'ble Principal Dr. J.S. Patil. Annual Prize Distribution ceremony was held on 16th February, 2013. Hon'ble Chief Guest Principal Dr. Niranjan Khichadi, delivered his speech on this occasion. Principal P.S. Chavan. (Finance Secretary of Swami Vivekanand Shikshan Sanstha, Kolhapur) presided over the function. 4) Personality Development - Students are encouraged to take part in various activities those would help to develop their personalities. For this purpose college organizes some activities like elocution, essay, poster competitions etc. Even in the departmental activities our students take initiative. In the N.S.S. camp and other programmes of Gymkhana students try to shape their personalities. Through various sports competitions our students become stronger by developing their personalities by obtaining medals and other prizes. 4 Our Hon'ble Principal Dr. J.S. Patil visited Basal University, Switzerland on 26/09/2012 and held discussion with Erich Thaler, Head of International Affairs regarding Education system in Switzerland. He visited some other places in Switzerland from academic point of view. Principal Dr. J.S. Patil participated in programmes organized as a part of Golden Jubilee celebration of the Shivaji University, Kolhapur on the theme "Parliamentary Practice and Procedure" on 30th October, 2012. He participated in "Marathi Parishad" 36th National conference at Bhusawal on 22nd to 24th November 2012. He worked as a Chairman of Academic and Administrative Audit for 5 colleges of Shri Swami Vivekanand Shikshan Sanstha, Kolhapur during the academic year 2012-13. In collaboration with Phinpro our college conducted NCFM Beginners Module Course from September 2012 to Feb 2013. Shri. S.B. Patil (Head and Asso.Prof in Political Science) has been elected as member of Tambave Grampanchayat “Mahatma Gandhi Tantamukti committee” by Tambave Grampanchayat for the year 2012-13. He is nominated as Special Executive Officer by Govt. of Maharashtra. To enkindle the minds of people,"Jagar Janivancha"(To create whistle blowers in the society) a special rally was organized on 04/01/2013. The said rally was organized to create awareness about the protection of women. In this rally 200 students and faculty members participated. In collaboration with Lead College, Adult and Continuous Education and Extension Department Shivaji University, Kolhapur our college (Political Science Department) organized One Day Workshop on “Grampanchayat and Gramin Vikas" for village Sarpanchs and members of Grampanchayats in Karad Tahsil on 24/01/2013. Besides A.D. Shroff Memorial Elocution Competition (Forum of Free Enterprises, Mumbai) on 03/10/2012was held . Miss. Prerna Yelve was selected as an Ideal student by Vijay Divas Samaroha Samiti,Karad. She was felicitated by Amruta Thapar ( Miss Bharat) on 22/12/2012. We celebrated the 15o Birth anniversary of Shri Swami Vivekananda and Birth Centenary of Late Y.B. Chavan (Former Deputy Prime Minister of India) at such point of time Miss . Prerna Yelve's selection as an Ideal student has really instilled and ignited our students. We feel proud and elated for her achievement. Wall Papers on the subjects like "Great Stalwarts Women in India” dated on 12/09/2012, and Communication Skills and Anchoring" were unveiled on 18/12/2012 in which students participated whole heartedly.

5) Participation of Teachers in Various Academic Programmes -

Almost all the faculty of our college is involved in various academic programmes like Workshops, Seminars, Conferences at the University, State, National and International levels. The number goes beyond hundred. Principal Dr. J.S. Patil worked as a Resource Person in a number of seminars, workshops, conferences, at the University, State and National levels. He chaired many such workshops and seminars. He worked as a Research Guide for two students pursuing their Ph.D. Mr. V.B. Kulkarni submitted the proposal of Minor Research Project on “Quest for Identity in the selected Novels of Shashi Deshpande and Gauri Deshpande: A Comparative Study” to U.G.C. through Shivaji University, Kolhapur on 01/02/2013. Mr. B.T. Khulpe is the recipient of "Marathwada Ratna Award – 2012”. He was felicitated at the auspicious hands of Phaiyas Khan-State Minister for Education, Maharashtra state on 26/12/2012. Mr. S.D. Kamble published paper in International Research Journal- 'Renaissance in Intellectual Disciplines" (ISSN 2277-7644) On Hill Ranges of Aagashiva Enriched with Caves and Biodiversity - A Case Study and Potential Tourism Center in the year 2012-13. Mr. S.S. Desai has been nominated as Vice-President of State Level Marathi Anthropological Society on 10th March 2013 ,during the Executive Meeting of State Level Marathi Anthropological Society for three years tenure. He submitted a proposal for Minor Research Project to UGC on the Social and Economic Status of Women of Nandiwale Society with Special reference to Sangli District in Maharashtra State. Mr. P.Y.Salunkhe contributed seven articles in Monthly Magazines of "Competitive Exam" and "General Knowledge" edited by Dr. Anand Patil during year 2012-13. Mr. M.S. Suryawanshi presented research paper on "A Role of Jalswaryajya Project in Maharashtra Water Policy" in 36th Annual Conference of Marathi Arthshastra Parishad organized by Arts, Science and P.O. Nahata Commerce College, Bhusawal held on 22nd to 24th Nov. 2012. Mr. A.G. Thorat was felicitated by Karad police station, Karad for his social work on 6th September 2012. Mr. P.S. Bartakke was felicitated at Sundar Math Shivtharghal Dist. Raigad (Maharashtra) on 24/11/2012 by Hon'ble Sampatrao Jedhe (Life Member of Swami Vevekananda Shikshan Sanstha, Kolhapur) for his work of propagation of Teachings of Swami and Shivaji Maharaj. Thirty Three Faculty members served as raporteaurs, chairpersons and resource persons of our college.

6 Lead College and Other Workshops/Seminars conducted in the college :-

1) State Level Workshop sponsored by Late N.M.Lokhande Maharashtra Shram Vidnyan Sanstha Mumbai on topic ‘Economics Leadership and Development’. 2) Lead College Workshop- 4 financed by Shivaji University,Kolhapur in collaboration with Lead College i.e S.G.M. College Karad.

 Anchoring and Communication Skills- jointly organized by Marathi ,Hindi,& English Depts.  Environment and Disaster Management- organized by Geography Department.  Grampanchayat and Rural Development- organized by Political Science Department  Folk culture of Maharashtra- organized by Cultural Department.

7 Technology Upgradation (Overall)

There are 65 Magazines and 15 Journals and 11 Newspapers in the Library. Since this year Shri.Siddhi Vinayak Book-Bank Scheme has been launched. 150 students have applied for the scheme. Earn and Learn Scheme is in progress from this year also. 5 students are working under this Scheme.Lib Man Software has been purchased from Master Software, Nagpur. Data- entry is in progress. Till-today, Data-entry process of 13000 books have been completed.

Computer and open Internet Access and Training to Teachers and Students. There is an open access in both Computer and Internet labs. In the NRC centre there are 15 Computers with internet facilities. Teachers and Students can make use of it at all the time easily. National Certification in Finance Management Course (Beginners Module) was launched in collaboration with Phinpro –Karad in our college five students have passed the examination Miss . Sujata Phalke got distinction in this Examination.

Career , Counselling, Placement Cell. We have our Sanstha’s independent Competitive Examination Coaching center for various Competitive Examinations. Counselling has been done for Competitive Examinations and developing of Language as well as analytical skills. The Career placement cell and Counselling cell is helping the students for filling the forms of various Competitive examinations and Counselling the students accordingly. Our outstanding student Mr. Sangram S.Patil won Silver Medal in Tug of war event at State Level during the year2012-13 On 29th to 31st January-2013 Inter Zonal Weight-Lifting Competition was held at Shri.Chhatrapati Shahaji Mahavidayalaya, Kolhapur. In 58 Kg Group Miss.Ashwini Rajaram Bhosale weightlifter(B.A.- I ) lifted 128 Kg. weight and won Second position.(silver Medal)

Other Relevant Information Meeting of Alumni and Parents and 9 Departmental Alumni meetings were organized in the College.As per the approval of the said meetings Departmental Libraries were launched during 2012-2013. For the Quality Enhancement and Quality Sustenance, the Sanstha Peer Team Under the Leadership of Principal Dr.R.V.Shejwal visited the college on 27-02-2013 for Academic and Administrative Audit and observed and discussed in detail with all the constituents and departments of the college. Proposals of various COC Courses and Building Infrastructure were sent to UGC . Five Proposals for Minor Projects and Two National Level Seminars proposals were submitted to UGC.

1) To make strong and untiring efforts for the construction of college building. 2) To organize Workshops , Seminars at the University , State and National Level. 3) To take follow-up of Proposals of Minor Research Projects and Seminars. 4) To send a Proposal For Personality Development Course and Yoga Study. 5) To enhance Teaching ,Learning Process with well-equipped ICT. 6) To activate UGC funds Solar Energy System in College Campus to keep the premises ECO- Friendly. 7) To purchase New Reference Books , E-Journals, and to register with INFLIBNET to enrich the Library facilities.
