Toledo, Ohio -- Dec 18, 2001 --

Dana Corporation (NYSE: DCN) announced today that its ROC Spicer Group in Taiwan has been selected by Ford Taiwan as a supplier for the four-wheel-drive system for the model year 2002 Escape.

The vehicle will be built and marketed by Ford Lio Ho Motor Company, a between and Lio Ho Machinery to market and assemble Ford products in the Taiwan region. Ford Lio Ho Motor also intends to ship Dana four-wheel-drive kits (known as CKD parts) to other Ford affiliates within the region for final assembly.

Using Dana's advanced traction and torque management technologies, ROC Spicer will supply independent aluminum rear suspension axles equipped with an Electronic Rotary Blade Clutch (E-RBC), enabling four-wheel-drive functionality for enhanced traction and performance under extreme driving conditions. It will also supply main driveshafts, which were redesigned to bring more power from the engine to the wheel, resulting in an improved driving experience.

In addition to Dana's advanced technology, Ford's decision to select Dana was based on the supplier's global resources, which will allow Ford to recognize cost-saving advantages related to local engineering services, import duty, and freight and handling costs. Dana is also capable of providing Ford with just-in-time delivery, allowing Ford to recognize advantages in reduced inventory.

“This new business further reflects Dana's position as a global leader in the efficient manufacture and supply of advanced driveline systems,” said Joe Magliochetti, Dana chairman and CEO. “Our global resources and innovative technologies are important elements in our continuing efforts to expand our programs outside the United States and better serve our global customers.”

ROC Spicer is part of Dana's Automotive Systems Group, a leading provider of under-the-vehicle integration technology, including advanced drivetrain torque and traction technologies, chassis design solutions, advanced modularity concepts, complete integrated systems engineering, and program and logistics management.
