Communiqué De Presse BetiZ Fest 2014 - Le Festival de Musiques Alternatives de Cambrai Communiqué de Presse Lundi 18 novembre 2013 De nouvelles dates et les premières confirmations… 12ème EDITION, LE BETIZFEST REVIENT EN AVRIL ET FRAPPE FORT ! Depuis 2003, l’équipe du festival œuvre dans le paysage culturel nordiste pour proposer un festival haut en couleurs à Cambrai. Le BetiZFest innove et ouvre une nouvelle page de l’histoire du festival. En effet ce n’est plus trois mais quatre jours de festival répartis sur deux week-ends qui prendront place à Cambrai. Quatre noms augurent déjà une belle édition : DevilDriver, Los Tres Puntos, Dagoba et Burning Lady. Le BetiZFest, unique festival de musiques alternatives, se déroulera à Cambrai, les 04, 05, 11 et 12 avril 2014. Depuis maintenant 11 ans, cette manifestation à la notoriété croissante est organisée par deux structures cambrésiennes. Les associations « Obey the Giant » et « Cambrai Concerts » ont toujours pour projet de soutenir les groupes locaux et régionaux, et de créer l’événement par la découverte musicale et artistique dans la ville des Bêtises, le tout à un tarif abordable. Le BetiZFest 2014 innove et orchestre une nouvelle formule : quatre jours de festival et de fête ! On vous en dit plus prochainement (informations et lieux) sur le premier week-end qui ouvrira le bal les 4 et 5 avril prochain. "DevilDriver" est le nom que donnent les sorcières aux cloches qu'elles utilisent pour repousser les démons lorsqu'elles jettent des sorts. Le groupe s'emploie avec maestria à conjuguer speed metal, thrash metal et des influences de black metal. Leur album, The Last Kind Words en 2007 se classe n°48 au Billboard, une performance exceptionnelle pour un groupe de metal. DevilDriver a également pu s'illustrer en créant le plus grand circle pit inscrit au Guiness des Records (les puristes apprécieront). Le quintet a écumé toutes les plus grosses scènes et festival du monde et fera l'énorme honneur au public cambrésien de fouler la scène du BetiZFest. Attendez vous à ce que Dez, ce qu'on peut appeler un véritable frontman, retourne le Palais des Grottes comme une crêpe! LOS TRES PUNTOS Ska Punk Rambouillet (Samedi 12 avril 2014) Reconnus pour leurs concerts endiablés, Los Tres Puntos tiennent haut la barre d'une certaine façon d'appréhender le musical et l'extra-musical. Fidèles à leurs valeurs humanistes, leur parcours est des plus limpides et irréprochables. Los Tres Puntos c'est l'entrain du ska et la rage du punk rock pour un cocktail à réveiller les morts. Rythmique effrénée et implacable relevée par une section cuivre de cavalerie, où les textes chantés en français et espagnol croquent le quotidien de notre époque sombre et torturée. Solides piliers du métal français, Dagoba conforte leur position grâce leur dernier album : Post Mortem Nihil Est, dans une veine power trash dopée aux stéroïdes. Formé en 1997, le groupe est emmené par les charismatiques Shawter au chant et Franky Costanza aux fûts et avait déjà fait sensation lors de notre 10ème édition. De retour de leur tournée américaine, ne ratez pas ce moment fort en testostérone. Amateurs de Wall of Death, commencez déjà à vous échauffer ! BURNING LADY Street Punk Lille (Samedi 12 avril 2014) Burning Lady joue un street punk maîtrisé, porté par une voix féminine taillée pour le genre. Le groupe sait mêler efficacement les influences de chacun et trouver son équilibre. Burning Lady a déjà joué près de 200 concerts (France, Allemagne, Angleterre, République Tchèque, Pays-bas, Suisse …) et partagé l’affiche avec de nombreux noms de la scène alternative (Pennywise, Lofofora, Mass Hystéria, Tagada Jones, Les Sales Majéstés…). Leurs prestations live, rapides et énergiques feront du show cambrésien une des bonnes découvertes de cette 12ème édition du BetiZFest. A ne pas rater!     DEVILDRIVER AUGUST BURNS RED 25.06.2012 Stuttgart Die Röhre Exklusive Co-Headlinershow in Stuttgart! Seit neun Jahren mischen DEVILDRIVER aus dem kalifornischen Santa Barbara die internationale Metal-Szene mit einem frischen, originären Sound auf. Ihre Verbindung von höchst groovendem Metalcore und angrif fslustigem Melodic Death Metal fand vom Fleck weg viele Liebhaber. Mittlerweile hat sich die Band weltweit einen Namen gemacht als unkonventionelle, stets überraschende Formation, die ihre eigene Nische zwischen den zahlreichen Metal-Spielarten gefunden hat. Im Juni kommen DEVILDRIVER um den charismatischen Front- Shouter Dez Fafara für drei Konzerte nach Deutschland. Besonders aufregend verspricht ihre Co-Headliner-Show mit AUGUST BURNS RED am 25. Juni in Stuttgart zu werden. Der Erfolg von DEVILDRIVER war geradezu vorprogrammiert. Ihr Frontmann Dez Fafara blickte zum Zeitpunkt der Bandgründung im Jahr 2002 bereits auf eine viel versprechende internationale Karriere mit der NuMetal-Formation Coal Chamber. Nach drei Alben und sieben gemeinsamen Jahren löste Fafara die Band auf, als er Bassist Jon Miller, Drummer John Boecklin und Gitarrist Jeff Kendrick kennenlernte. Die beiden Musiker waren dabei, die Songs für ein erstes Album fertigzustellen, für das ihnen lediglich noch ein Frontmann fehlte. Fafara stieß hinzu und man rekrutierte mit dem zweiten Gitarristen Evan Pitts einen weiteren Mitstreiter. Gemeinsam komponierten sie komplett neues Material für das im Oktober 2002 veröffentlichte Debütalbum „DevilDriver“. Zunächst zeigte sich die einschlägige Metal-Presse verhalten. Der innovative Klang von DEVILDRIVER, der auf eine bislang ungehörte Weise den Groove des Metalcore mit der Här te und Schnelligkeit des Melodic Death Metal vereinte, musste erst seinen Weg in die Gehörgänge der Fans finden.

    Brutal Theory: Luciferian Brutalism and cultural critique in extreme metal music by Andrew Thomson A thesis submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Education Department of Secondary Education University of Alberta © Andrew Thomson, 2020 BRUTAL THEORY ii Abstract Heavy metal is a misunderstood genre of music. It is a music of brutality, of savage extremity in its unrelenting attack that pushes the boundaries of the extreme; it is perceived as a rebellious fad in the lives of young people; it has morphed from the stereotypical and dated connections to the miscreant, unwashed masses to the soundtrack of a new wave of metal fear-mongering in a post-Columbine world in which metal consumption took much of the blame for psychological damage to youth listeners. Fans of metal exist on the margins of society and its mainstream expectations. Metal studies, a burgeoning area of scholarship, has worked to debunk the myths of metal, exposing a strong community that offers positive impacts on listeners and fans of the genre. It has begun to expose this subculture as a place that thrives on its attempts to remain on the outside of mainstream markets despite the continued draw of capitalism, on the fringes, for those who feel no sense of belonging with the popular culture. This research proposes the idea that metal does more than provide a communal space for fans, that it creates – through brutalization – a space within popular culture where it can subvert the mainstream – the conservative cultural center that has established what is considered the acceptable and normative styles of consumption, in short, the popular and common - and offer crucial cultural critique and that this genre of music offers more than a passing fad or a means to anger or scare a conservative establishment.
