4 WE ARE NONPROFITS.

The Oklahoma Center for Nonprofi ts is an organization’s link to the statewide nonprofi t sector network. Membership, professional development and consulting services with OKCNP throughout the state of Oklahoma help build the network in order to build a strong state.

OKCNP’s training spans a wide range of professional development topics, delivered by skilled staff with on-the-ground experience in the nonprofi t sector. From fundraising, board development, leadership and engagement, nonprofi t professionals, board members, donors, volunteers and other stakeholders count on OKCNP to be the most informed and trusted resource for the nonprofi t sector.

These 951 organizations and individuals have created the strongest network of nonprofi t organizations and leaders in the state. The Oklahoma Center for Nonprofi ts is the preeminent resource for nonprofi t best practices and leadership development in the region.

Standards for Excellence® is a nationally accredited curriculum that teaches best practices for nonprofi t management, governance, and legal compliance. In the summer of 2015, the Oklahoma Center for Nonprofi ts released Standards for Excellence® 2.0. The new curriculum includes expanded and enhanced benchmarks, including 79 benchmarks for best practices; new sample policies in social media and information technologies all nonprofi ts need to know; and improved information on outcome–based measurements and logic models to prove mission impact. The Standards for Excellence® training has exceeded 800 graduate organizations as of June 2016.

With strategic rural outreach, OKCNP increased training opportunities beyond the metro areas of and Tulsa. OKCNP training was targeted to communities, such as: Bartlesville, Tahlequah, Muskogee, Ponca City, Enid, Stillwater, McAlester, Altus, Lawton, Ardmore and Durant.

7 WE ARE PARTNERSHIPS.

8 WE ARE PARTNERSHIPS.

Throughout 2015-2016, the Oklahoma Center for Nonprofi ts partnered with various organization to bring nationally-acclaimed speakers and workshops to nonprofi t organizations and leaders.

Over the past year, OKCNP has partnered in multiple ways with nonprofi t organizations, community leaders, corporations, and foundations to build programs to best serve nonprofi t leadership in the state.

OKCNP brought Stephen Pidgeon from the United Kingdom to Oklahoma City and Tulsa in partnership with the Association of Fundraising Professionals. Pidgeon is an international fundraising professional with a four-decade career.

In coordination with the OpEd Project and Leadership Oklahoma, OKCNP continued the National Speaker Series with Zeba Khan in Spring of 2016. Khan encouraged nearly 200 individuals in Oklahoma City and Tulsa to claim their expertise and amplify their voices in public discource and policy.

For the second year in a row, OKCNP staff presented at the annual Cherokee Nation Conference, training the individuals and organizations in the Cherokee Nation to be better equipped to serve their communities.

In the Summer of 2016, OKCNP teamed up with the Council on American Islamic Relations of Oklahoma to present the Impact of Islamophobia in the Work of Nonprofi ts, hosted by the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum in Oklahoma City and Phillips Seminary in Tulsa.

9 WE ARE ADVOCATES.

10 WE ARE ADVOCATES.

On March 24, 2016, the Oklahoma Center for Nonprofi ts assembled 45 organizations and more than 150 individuals at the for Oklahoma Nonprofi t Day.

Organizations stood for their mission in support of their clients and the nonprofi t sector. The individuals learned how to talk to their legislators, what nonprofi ts can do and not do during election season, and how they can be the voice of their constituents.

2016 Legislative Highlights HB2250 The Oklahoma Center for Nonprofi ts opposed this bill that would limit the rights of organizations dealing with animals to raise and spend money on their programs, advocacy and administrative costs. Bills such as as HB2250 could have chilled other types of organizations through a slippery slope. The Center worked closely with the National Council of Nonprofi ts to provide legislators a constitutional brief outlining the concerns around the bill that sought to keep animal rights charities from spending dollars out-of-state or to spend money on lobbying, public policy or advocacy within the state of Oklahoma.

State Charitable Campaign In partnership with the United Way of Central Oklahoma, the Center lobbied and advocated for the extension of a sunset that would continue operation of the State Charitable Campaign. The Campaign raises more than a half million dollars annually for more than 200 nonprofi ts in Oklahoma through state employee payroll deductions for charitable giving. The Center educated the public and legislators that donors are four times more likely to give when presented with the option of payroll deduction for nonprofi t contributions.

Ad Valorem Changes The Center also ensured that a potential change to an exemption for ad valorem taxes did not pass through a committee. Nonprofi ts receive an important exemption for these taxes in Oklahoma, and the Center believes that the 501c3 distinction should be the only qualifi er for these exemptions. This gives county assessors a better test for the exemption rather than evaluating a charity’s size or type.

The Academy for State Goals This year, the Academy tackled a daunting topic in the state budget. Because of the budget crisis, it was a timely deep-dive into the issues of how the budget is created, priorities of state funding and transparency of the process to the public and the general Legislature. The Center regularly works with the Academy (both by attending the Town Halls and through advocacy) for dissemination of sound, fact-based public policy to legislatures created in a nonpartisan, consensus-driven process. 11 WE ARE COMMUNITY.

12 WE ARE COMMUNITY.

The Oklahoma Center for Nonprofi ts is proud to honor individuals and organizations each year with two recognition events – the Visions Awards: honoring outstanding individuals in their work of nonprofi ts, and the Oklahoma Nonprofi t Excellence (ONE) Awards: honoring the excellence of nonprofi t organizations throughout the state.

On November 17, 2015, OKCNP held its fi fth annual Visions Awards. Visions honored Jennifer Abney, Rodney Bivens, Nina Daylor, Rita Moore and Wanda Swisher for their dedication to nonprofi t missions that change lives.

Due to a generous gift from the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation, one individual will receive a $10,000 grant and the Rodney Bivens Innovation Award. The Donald W. Reynolds Foundation created the award in honor of retiring Food Bank CEO Rodney Bivens in 2015. Jennifer Abney was the recipient in 2015.

On April 9, 2016, OKCNP held its ninth annual ONE Awards. The ONE Awards honored a total of 24 organizations in eight categories: arts and humanities, community, education, health services, open services, self-suffi ciency, seniors, and youth development. Additionally, the Center named the United Way of Central Oklahoma as the overall winner of the event named after Charles Schusterman. All 24 nonprofi ts receive at least a $5,000 prize, and category winners receive $7,500. The overall winner receives a grand prize of $10,000.

The honorary chair of the 2016 ONE Awards was Commissioner Terri L. White, The Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services. White spoke on the impact of mental health and substance abuse in the state and the tremendous way that nonprofi t organizations are responding to the needs.

As of the 2016 ONE Awards, the Oklahoma Center for Nonprofi ts has given $1,357,500.00 to nonprofi t organizations throughout the state.
