Collingwood Magpies 12 7 5 0 1378 1146 120 28 A good weekend for all favourites and no upsets to report of with all games going according to script. In First 12 7 5 0 1259 1188 105 28 Division, the Rams managed to notch up their third win of the season against the Jets, the Sharks accounted for the Camden Cats, the Bats ate some Holroyd-Parramatta Goanna and the Wolves smashed the Warriors in a Carlton Blues 12 6 6 0 1162 1223 95 24 Saturday night blockbuster at Macquarie University. See below for First Division Tips.

North Melbourne 12 5 6 1 1138 1234 92 22 AFL LADDER AFL St Kilda Saints 12 5 7 0 1115 1173 95 20 Out at Charlie McLaughlin Reserve this weekend, the East Coast Eagles take on the Sydney University Students - an interesting match between 4th placed Eagles and the 5th placed Students. The Eagles easily disposed of the Richmond Tigers 12 4 7 1 1189 1297 91 18 Magpies on the weekend and are looking the goods with Wilson, Vlatko and Ryan on fire whilst the Students had

Port Adelaide Power 12 4 8 0 1136 1199 94 16 the easiest match of the round thumping the Dockers. One bloke the Eagles will have to blanket is goal sneak Essendon Bombers 12 3 9 0 1068 1462 73 12 Alex Lee; he kicked 7 last weekend and now sits second on the goal kicking table with 35 .This will be a good Dockers 12 2 10 0 1082 1206 89 8 contest and the Eagles should get up at home. East Coast Eagles by 15 points.

West Coast Eagles 12 2 10 0 941 1281 73 8 Pennant Hills host last year‟s premiers North Shore out at Ern Holmes Oval this week. The Demons have had a Melbourne Demons 12 1 11 0 940 1513 62 0 fantastic start to the year and will not want to drop this match at home. They had a tough match against the Lions

last weekend; down by 13 points at half time they rallied in the 3rd quarter kicking 5 goals with Carey, Clarke and

Moriartis playing well. The Bombers on the other hand were beaten comprehensively by the Crows with Brackin, Essendon 16.17.113 def. West Coast 13.13.91 Cowell and Sierakowski their shining lights. Pennant Hills by 34 points. Western Bulldogs 19.17.131 def. Brisbane 10.8.68 Fremantle 18.12.120 def. Kangaroos 9.13.67 Out at Monarch Oval Campbelltown take on Western Suburbs in what should be a fantastic match. The sixth Sydney 14.18.102 def. St Kilda 9.13.67 placed Magpies will not want to drop this match ensuring they keep up the pressure on the teams in the top five. Hawthorn 11.10.76 def. Adelaide 10.12.72 Both teams will need to improve on their last round efforts if they want to get the points! The Magpies will need Geelong 15.18.108 def. Port Adelaide 7.7.49 Withers, French and Hudson to fire whilst Fraser, Bourke and Condon will need to play well for the Blues.

Carlton 17.17.119 def. Collingwood 12.17.89 Western Suburbs by 8 points. LAST WEEK WEEK LAST Richmond 16.20.116 Def. Melbourne 14.10.94 The UNSW/ES Bulldogs will travel down to North Dalton Park to face the pride of Wollongong - it looks like a Friday June 20 lopsided contest on paper though this match will be closer than many people think - the Lions have improved this St Kilda v Fremantle at Telstra Dome year but need to string 4th quarters of good footy together - Wells, Stanton and Bartlett have been in good form

Saturday June 21 DESK THE BEHIND and they will need to contain the likes of Abbott, Luff and Darling from the Bulldogs. UNSW/ES by 29 points. Hawthorn v Kangaroos at MCG Port Adelaide v Richmond at AAMI Stadium Out at Olds Park the Crows take on the Dockers - the Dockers took an early lead against the Students last week- Brisbane v Adelaide at GABBA end but just couldn‟t contain them and ended up being beaten by 11 goals. Umpire Mentor Program in the Sydney AFL With the growth of Australian football in Sydney, there is an increasing need for

more umpires to service the expanding number of weekend matches.

Last weekend saw four „Green Shirt‟ umpires from the Umpire Mentor Program run the boundary at the Under 18 game at Gore Hill and the Reserve Grade game at Wagener Oval.

These four young umpires all attend Endeavour Sports High School. The school is part of a pilot School Based Umpiring Academy program. Currently there are ten students in the program with a number of them to make their debut next weekend. The program began at the school at the start of this term, with weekly sessions conducted by Umpiring Development Officer Carl Fletcher. The sessions are held weekly at lunchtime and so far it has been a great success. The weekly sessions cover all the skills of Field, Boundary and Goal Umpiring.

“Students are learning all the skills and practicing them at school, which takes pressure off parents to get them to regular training sessions. The program has been a great success with all students keen to learn about umpiring, and get out there and give it a go. Students have also enjoyed the fact that they can still play the sport they specialise in and also umpire to earn some money” Fletcher said.

The program has been open to any students who are interested and so far has attracted athletes from Australian Football, Athletics and OZ tag. Students are appointed to umpire on days and at times that will suit their needs around their own sport time. Umpiring is a sport, and it teaches skills in leadership, communication, decision

making and conflict resolution, while also paying you to keep fit!!!

BEHIND THE WHISTLE THE BEHIND Are you interested in taking up the challenge of Umpiring, learning life skills and being paid to keep fit?

Umpires are needed on the Field, Boundary and Goals, so give Carl Fletcher a call on 0425 256 504, or
