ON VASSELL: A rising star for the Seminoles in the ACC and across the nation who displayed his ability to excel at the highest level of college as he enjoyed a freshman season full of game-winning baskets and highlight reel plays…one of the Seminoles’ toughest defenders who utilizes his athleticism and incredible wingspan to lockdown some of the top players in the nation…takes advantage of his incredible wing-span (6-9 ¼), his height (6-5) and his leaping ability on both offense and defense…among the players who he guarded with great success as a freshman was Marquise Reed of Clemson in two meetings between the two teams during the 2018-19 regular season…played an integral role in Florida State earning a No. 4 seed in the West Region of the 2019 NCAA Tournament…helped the Seminoles finish the 2018-19 season with a 29-8 overall record, a 13-5 mark in ACC play, a fourth place finish in the ACC standings and in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament…Florida State’s 29 overall wins and 13 ACC wins set program records for wins in a season in both categories…helped the Seminoles to a near school-record six wins over nationally ranked teams including a win over No. 2 ranked and National Champion Virginia in the semifinals of the 2019 ACC Tournament…the Seminoles’ win over Virginia in the 2019 ACC Tournament led the Seminoles to the Championship Game of the ACC Tournament for the third time in program history…led the Seminoles with a .419 3-point shooting percentage as he made 26 3-point shots…made 12 of his 26 3-point shots in ACC play as he shot .444 from the 3-point line in conference play…enjoyed one of the top seasons among all freshmen in the ACC in 2019…led the ACC’s freshmen in 3-point percentage (.419) as he made 26 shots from the bonusphere…made his career- high of four 3-point in a victory over Virginia Tech in the quarterfinals of the 2019 ACC Tournament…maybe his most important long range shot was his fourth 3-point shot against the Hokies came with 4.5 seconds remaining in regulation and tied the game at 56…the Seminoles won the game in overtime by a 65-63 margin to advance to the semifinals of the ACC Tournament…Florida State’s lone scholarship player in the 2018 recruiting class (class of 2022)…the most important defender in Peachtree’s full court trap defensive scheme…one of the top contenders for the Mr. Basketball award in the state of Georgia…played for the North team in the state of Georgia North South All-Star game following his senior season…a member of the North team in the GACA North South All- Star game as a junior…verbally committed to Head Coach Leonard Hamilton and the Seminoles in May of 2017…played for Team A.J. Bouye in AAU play…ranked as the 47th best shooting guard and the eighth best at his position in the state of Georgia by 247Sports as a senior…named the regional Player of the Year and voted onto the All-State 6-AAAAAAA Regional First Team as a senior…an All-State First Team selection in Class 6-AAAAAAA by the Atlanta Journal Constitution…named to the Atlanta All-Metro team by the Naismith Trophy organization following his senior season…earned three awards at the Seminoles’ 2019 Men’s Basketball Honors Banquet…named to the 2019 ACC Academic Honor Roll…accepted the First Year Academic Achievement Award and the Newcomer of the Year award while sharing the award as the Seminoles’ top 3-point shooter…also earned a special team J.U.I.C.E award (Just Us In Combat Every Day) at the Seminoles’ Honors Banquet in 2019.

AS A FRESHMAN (2019): Averaged 4.5 points (ninth on the team) and 1.5 rebounds (10th) while playing in 33 of Florida State’s 37 games…averaged 10.7 minutes played per game in leading the Seminoles to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament in his first season as a Seminole…shot a team-leading .419 from the 3-point line – he finished as the only Seminole to shoot 40 percent or better from the 3-point line…led the ACC’s freshmen with his .419 3-point shooting percentage – he was one of only two freshmen in the ACC (also Isaiah Wilkins of Virginia Tech) to shoot 40 percent or better from the 3-point line with on 50 or more attempts during the 2018-19 season…ranked sixth on the team with 26 made 3-point shots – including a number of the most important long range shots of the season for the Seminoles…among his important made 3-point shots was the game-winning shot against Clemson in Florida State’s victory over the Tigers in Tallahassee and the game-tying shot in regulation time to send the Seminoles’ game against Virginia Tech in the ACC Tournament into overtime…the Seminoles defeated the Hokies in overtime and went on to play in the championship game of the ACC Tournament for the third time in school history…helped Florida State to a 29-8 overall record and a 13-5 mark in ACC play…the Seminoles’ 29 overall wins and their 13 ACC victories established school records for wins in a season and in ACC play…the Seminoles won 15 overall ACC games as they defeated both No. 16 Virginia Tech and No. 2 Virginia in the ACC Tournament to advance to the Championship Game of the ACC Tournament…helped the Seminoles to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament with victories over both Vermont (March 21, 2019, 76-69) and Murray State (March 23, 2019, 90-62) to advance the Seminoles to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season…scored in double figures five times as a freshman – twice in non-conference play, twice in ACC play and once in the ACC Tournament…his career-high of 16 points came in the Seminoles’ 85-69 win over Southeast Missouri State at the Donald L. Tucker Center in Tallahassee (Dec. 17)…scored his 16 points in 19 minutes of playing time against Southeast Missouri as he made his career-high of four free throws…led Florida State in scoring three times as a freshman: 11 points at Georgia Tech in his homecoming to the state of Georgia (Feb. 16), 13 points in Florida State’s victory over Notre Dame (Feb. 25) and with 14 points in Florida State’s overtime victory over Virginia Tech in overtime in the ACC Tournament (March 14)…led the Seminoles in both scoring and rebounding with a career-high tying seven rebounds against Notre Dame…also totaled a career-high seven rebounds against Duke at the Donald L. Tucker Center in Tallahassee (Jan. 12)…made his career debut for the Seminoles with three points and one in Florida State’s 81-60 win over Florida in Tallahassee (Nov. 6)…totaled 10 points, three steals, one and one blocked shot in Florida State’s win over Canisius in the AdvoCare Classic in Tallahassee…the quarterfinals of the AdvoCare Invitational (Nov 22)...totaled five points and one rebound in 20 minutes of play in Florida State’s victory over Clemson in Tallahassee…made what proved to be the game-winning basket (a 3-pointer) to put the Seminoles up 56-55 with 9:11 remaining to play against Clemson…the Seminoles did not surrender the lead after that basket (Jan. 22)… At that point, the Seminoles had trailed Clemson for more than 24 minutes…after Vassell’s shot, which gave them a one-point lead, they never trailed again and went on to win, 77-68…scored eight points (on two of four made 3-point shots), pulled down two rebounds and earned one steal in Florida State’s victory over Wake Forest in Tallahassee (Feb. 13)…scored his ACC career-high of 11 points (on two of three made 3-point shots), pulled down three rebounds and totaled three steals in Florida State’s 69- 47 win over Georgia Tech in Atlanta (Feb. 16)…totaled 13 points, a career-high seven rebounds, one and one blocked shot in 22 minutes played in Florida State’s victory over Notre Dame (Feb. 25)…With 7:04 left in the game against Notre Dame, Vassell put back a thunderous dunk on an offensive rebound, collected a rebound on the other end of the floor and knocked down a 3-pointer on offense to give FSU its first lead since the game’s first five minutes…a team-high 14 points on a career-high four made 3-point field goals in Florida State’s 65-63 overtime victory over Virginia Tech in the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament…his 3-point shot with 4 seconds remaining in regulation in regulation tied the game at 56-56 and sent the game into overtime…a steal and a dunk was the Seminoles’ first basket in the overtime period and put Florida State up 58-56 (March 14)…totaled six points (on two made 3-point field goals), seven rebounds and a career-high two blocked shots in Florida State’s appearance in the championship game of the ACC Tournament at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, N.C. (March 16)…totaled four points, two assists and one rebound in Florida State’s game against Gonzaga in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif. (March 28).

AT PEACEHTREE RIDGE: Graduated from Peachtree Ridge High School in 2018…graduated as the second highest overall scorer in school history and as the highest per game average scorer in school history…finished his two-year career at Peachtree Ridge as the school’s second-leading scorer behind only Zach Graham who played collegiately at Ole Miss and for the Atlanta Hawks in the NBA…averaged 16.7 points and 5.8 rebounds in two seasons as a member of the Peachtree Ridge varsity…named the Player of the Year as a senior by the Gwinnett Daily Post and the Player of the Year in Region 6-AAAAAAA…the 2017- 18 Peachtree Ridge Player of the Year…averaged 21.6 points, 8.9 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.2 blocked shots while shooting .537 from the field as a senior…led Peachtree Ridge to a 24-5 record as a senior…a triple threat shooter as a senior .437 from the field, .410 from the 3-point line and .790 from the line as a senior leader…led the Lions to the state championship tournament as the No. 1 seed from the region…totaled 23 points and pulled down 10 rebounds as he led Peachtree Ridge to a regional championship clinching victory over Mountain View…totaled 21 points in an early-season victory over Jefferson as a senior…averaged 16.7 points, 6.1 rebounds, 1.2 steals, 0.8 assists and 0.5 blocked shots as a junior…shot .469 percent from the field and .721 percent from the free throw line as a junior…earned all-county first-team honors as a junior in his first full season as a member of the varsity team.
