District Partnership Report. Hollinwoood and Failsworth Neighbourhood Policing Unit (Q3) January 2013 Anti social behaviour January 2013 continues the trend seen in 2012 with a low number of anti-social behaviour reports being made. As of the 11 th December 2012 the overall figure for all reported ASB incidents in our neighbourhood was 1524. This represented a 24.8% reduction in reports from the previous year. The Neighbourhood Policing team has also seen a decrease in the number of repeat locations however the issues around reports by OMBC’s First Response team of drinking and smoking cannabis around Higher Memorial park and lately Copster Hill park remain. The Failsworth East and Hollinwood and Limeside PCSO’s have increased the number of patrols they conduct in these parks in an attempt to identify and disrupt those involved in these activities. Crime The numbers of thefts from garden sheds previously reported to the District Partnership have reduced although no key arrests or teams had been identified the NPU can claim that the awareness campaign in the areas affected by our PCSO’s and the Key Individual Networks (KINS), Homewatch, Facebook and Twitter crime prevention advice contributed to this reduction as well as specific tasking for night time patrolling by the Response Policing teams during our ‘weeks of action’. January to March is a key threat period for the Oldham Division and the Hollinwood and Failsworth NPU for personal robbery and burglary. As you can see from the figures we are performing very well in burglary and robbery, with a year-to-date (YTD) reduction of 25.6% (85 less offences) in burglary and 62.2% (28 less offences) in personal robbery . However over the same period we have seen an increase of 5 business robberies. However, the first week of January 2013 has not been plain sailing. From 01/01/13 to 08/01/13 we had 9 burglaries committed across the 3 Wards. 2 of these burglaries were to sheds / garages in the Hollinwood and Limeside area whilst the 7 domestic burglaries were committed on the East (2) and West (5) of Failsworth. Vehicles were stolen from 2 burglaries in Failsworth West. A line of enquiry from one of the burglaries in Failsworth West and an overnight stop search of a significant individual by a patrolling Officer led to the NPU, the Oldham Division’s Pro- Active Unit and the Newton Heath NPU to uncover a number of Newton Heath criminals working as a team. An arrest quickly followed and subsequent enquiries by the Division’s Volume Crime Team (VCT) led to the recovery of several stolen motor vehicles, one being from Failsworth and saw the criminal arrested being charged with a number of offences. The NPU in partnership with the Newton Heath NPU will continue to disrupt and manage these career criminals as part of our daily business. Since 08/01/13 and 14/01/13 no domestic burglaries have been reported in either East or West Failsworth and only 1 reported in the Hollinwood area. In 4 of the burglaries referred to above the offender(s) gained access via INSECURE (unlocked) front doors. Planned activity As a result of the domestic burglary spike discussed above the NPU has had to push back plans for a number plate security screw campaign. Nearly ¼ of all reported vehicle crime in the Hollinwood and Failsworth area are reports of the theft of number plates. Our PCSO Ward teams are in the process of planning these events in high footfall locations such as our supermarkets. These planned events will also be used to promote Homewatch and give crime prevention advice.
