Patrick Casement, Northern Ireland Environment Link

Patrick lives in Ballycastle in Northern Ireland where he has run his own business, a family farm, for 30 years producing quality beef and lamb. He is currently the Chair of the Heart of the Glens Landscape Partnership scheme and former Chair of the Council for Nature Conservation and the Countryside and The National Trust for Northern Ireland. His academic achievements include a B.A. in Zoology from Oxford and a M.Sc. in Ecology from Durham.

Mark H Durkan, Minister for the Environment Mark H Durkan was appointed Minister for the Environment in July 2013, replacing his SDLP colleague Alex Attwood. He was elected as MLA for Foyle in 2011 and served as the party’s social development and health spokesperson.

Prior to becoming an Assembly member, Mark was on City Council representing the Northland district from 2005-2011. During this period he chaired the Council’s Planning Committee, Policy and Resources Committee and the Environmental Services Committee. He was a key driver in bringing forward drinking bye-laws in Derry City centre, making the streets safer and cleaner.The Derryman is committed to ensuring that the right decisions are made as quickly as possible and that DOE delivers a better environment and a stronger economy. Before committing to public life full-time, Mark worked in an accountancy firm. He is married to Anne and has a son, Luke. Mark is a keen runner and a follower of GAA and soccer, particularly Everton FC.

Paul Mullan, Heritage Lottery Fund

Prior to working at Heritage Lottery Fund, Paul worked at the National Trust where he had spent time as both Area Manager and Acting Regional Director. Following a degree in Ancient History and Political Science at Queen's University of Belfast, and a year post-graduate study at Trinity College, Dublin, Paul worked at a number of top London advertising agencies for clients as diverse as Coca-Cola and the English Tourist Board. Returning to Ireland Paul has been involved in a variety of heritage, tourism and conservation projects, and has written, lectured and broadcasted on heritage matters. Paul holds a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Ulster. Paul was a member of the BBC’s Audience Council for Northern Ireland and is also on the Board of the Arts Council of Northern Ireland.

Frances McCandless, Charity Commission for Northern Ireland

Frances McCandless is Chief Executive of the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland, the non-departmental public body which is responsible for regulating charities and their activities. Frances was appointed to the Commission in April 2010 as its first Chief Executive. Prior to taking up this post, Frances was employed as Director of Policy at NICVA, an umbrella body which provides advice, information and policy analysis to the 5,000 voluntary and community organisations in Northern Ireland. Frances’s career in the voluntary and community sector goes back over 20 years and she has worked with young people, women returning to work, in housing, with older and disabled people and as an international volunteer in Prague with the YMCA. She has also been a board member of organisations working in the areas of environment, ethnic minorities, reconciliation, community arts, audience development, mediation and physical activity. Frances has a BA (Hons) from University College, Oxford, an MPhil from Trinity College, Dublin and a Diploma in Public Administration from Warwick Business School, where she has also taught and been an Associate Fellow of the Institute of Governance and Public Management.

Neil Irwin, Institute of Fundraising

Neil Irwin has been involved with the Institute of Fundraising (IOF) Northern Ireland committee for the past 14 years. Neil founded his own fundraising training and advise business, niFundraising in 2013 after 13 years working as fundraising advice manager with the Northern Ireland Council for Voluntary Action. Neil is a Diploma qualified member of the Institute of Fundraising and a well-known fundraising tweeter and blogger (@neilirwin). Neil was a driving force behind the establishment of legacy promotion charity Will to Give and is a former director of the Fundraising Standards Board (FRSB). Neil helped develop, maintain and manage the GrantTracker website and in the process gain an expert knowledge of grant-making organisations relevant to Northern Ireland. Neil is a grants assessor for BBC Children in Need and a committee member for the Victoria Homes Trust - a local grant-making trust.

Mary O’Kennedy, O’Kennedy Consulting

Mary is Director of O’Kennedy Consulting, set up in 2002 in response to an ever increasing need in the Irish market for expert advice and guidance on fundraising and communications issues in the not-for-profit sector. Today O’Kennedy Consulting advises organisations throughout Ireland and UK, whilst our strategic influence reaches across Europe. Mary is actively involved in the continued growth and development of fundraising both in Ireland and overseas and is a Board Member of EU Consult, the European Association of Consultants to the Non- For-Profit Sector. Most recently Mary was appointed as the Irish Ambassador for the IFC, International Fundraising Congress, the world's leading education and training conference on fundraising worldwide. She is also a founding Board Member of Fundraising Ireland and a regular speaker at various conference and events focused on the Irish charity sector and fundraising. Mary was presented with an Award for Outstanding Contribution to Fundraising at the Irish Fundraising Awards 2013.Her academic achievements include a BA in English and Spanish UCD and a Dip in legal studies, Kings Inns.

Jim Norris, Allstate Northern Ireland

Jim Norris has been employed at Northern Ireland’s largest IT company Allstate Northern Ireland since 1999. He has been directly responsible for much of the recruitment of IT staff and management team as the company established itself in Northern Ireland over the past fifteen years. He manages the HR function, leading a team who deliver a range of HR services to over 1,700 IT professionals. He has direct involvement in the company’s performance management framework, corporate responsibility activities and contributes to policy development. He has spent over 16 years in different HR related roles and a further 14 years working in a range of roles within the manufacturing sector including Production Management, Materials Management and Quality Assurance. Jim has an MBA (1997) and a Masters in HRM from the University of Ulster (2000) and also holds Chartered Membership of CIPD.

Murdo Murray, Northern Ireland Environment Link

Murdo Murray has been appointed as Programme Manager for the two year HLF Catalyst Umbrella Programme. Murdo worked with NIEL over last summer and autumn in the development work which led to the successful HLF funding award. Murdo comes originally from Glasgow and the Western Isles of Scotland and now lives in Donaghadee. He has lived and worked in Northern Ireland since 1987, working in a broad range of professional, funding, policy, practice, organisational, sectoral and geographical settings.
