Notes for SARAH JANE MIDGLEY: Mrs Sarah Jane Bland, 85, widow of James H Bland, died Tuesday morning at her home, 29 River street, after a long illness. Born in Bradford, Yorkshire, England, she had resided here over 60 years and was a member of the Unitarian Church and the Afternoon Alliance. Surviving are two sons, Howard Bland of St Petersburg, Florida, and Frank Bland of Sanford; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, two brothers, William Midgley of Greenfield, Massachusetts, and Hartley Midgley of Groton, Massachusetts, and a sister, Mrs John Peabody of Providence, Rhode Island. Services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 at the Hurd Funeral Chapel, 10 Winter street, with the Reverend Leonard Helie of the Unitarian Church officiating. Interment will be in Oakdale Cemetery.

Notes for JAMES HARGREAVES BLAND: On Thursday, April 21, James H Bland passed away at his residence on River Street. He is survived by the widow Sara J Bland, two sons Howard and Frank, and one daughter Alice. Mr Bland was a native of Yorkshire, England and came to this country about 20 years ago, living in Jamestown, New York. He came to this town fifteen years ago and has since made it his home. He saw the building of the Worsted Mill and was one of the first workmen employed. The deceased had a host of friends in Sanford and the family have their deepest sympathy. The funeral was held Sunday from the residence, Reverend Alexander Hamilton officiating. After the singing of "Lead Kindly Light", Mr Hamilton in appropriate words spoke of the respect in which he was held by those who knew him and commended him to call of him who knows what is best, after which the chorus sang "Sometime We'll Understand". he singing was by Mrs Frank Alcott, William Nutter and Miss Annie Murdock and Nellie Mitchell. Thirty-one wool sorters from the Springvale and Sanford Mills escorted the remains to the cemetery. The pall bearers were O V Libby, F Broggi, John Watson and Mr Mosley. Undertaker Wentworth had charge of the funeral arrangements. The following relatives from out of town were present. The place where she bought her ticket and boarded the train in Canada to come to America was in Nicolet, Quebec, Canada.

She paid $20.00 head tax in Portland, Cumberland, Maine on March 11, 1932.

She received a Declaration of Intention, number 724 on April 19, 1924 in Alfred, York, Maine, Supreme Judicial Court.

Mrs Clara A Bland, 76, widow of Frank C Bland, died Saturday at the Goodall Hospital. She resided at 15a Errol St. A native of Bayville, Quebec, she was born September 18, 1900, daughter of Edmond and Alphonsine Pelletier Camire, and came to Sanford in 1903 with her family. Mrs Bland was employed in the former Goodall-Sanford textile mills. She was a communicant of Holy Family Church. Her husband died in 1971. Surviving are two sons, Donald of Sanford and Raymond of Wells; three daughters, Mrs Gertrude Pepin of Sanford, Mrs Pauline Wilson of Oxen Hill, Maryland, and Mrs Beatrice Corley of San Diego, California; two sisters Mrs Alexina Libby and Mrs Melina Roussin, borh of Sanford; 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Prayers are to be said at 9 am Wednesday at the Sanford Funeral Home, 145 Middle St. A Funeral Mass will follow at 10 am at Holy Family Church. Entombment is to be in Oakdale Cemetery.
