56 Frankston Gardens , Carrum Downs VIC 3201 P (03) 9775 1156 | www.fineprintaustralia.com John Duff & Co Distributor of Shell Products Ph. (03) 5997 1277 HISTORY OF THE CLUB A few local golf enthusiasts who were allowed to make 9 hole sand scrapes on private land, formed the Lang Lang Golf Club in 1925. This was the pattern through six different golf sites, before the present was formed. Prior to 1925, golf was played at two different places. One was between the old racecourse, the other between Nellie Street and the Lang Lang River. In 1925 play was on Mr Baker’s property. Fees for members were fifteen shillings and Associates seven shillings and sixpence. From 1927 to 1932 play was on Gayes’ property on the South Gippsland Highway. Between 1932 and 1935 the Koo Wee Rup Golf Club amalgamated with Lang Lang. Play was on the McRae’s family property and from 1935 to 1940, on the Ridgeway’s family property. The Second World War breakout in 1939 brought about the closure of the Club. In 1949 the Club was reformed and golf was played on the Dixon’s property on McDonalds Track until October 1960, when the owner disallowed any further use of his land. In November of the same year, it became known to the Committee that there was a large piece of crown land on the Nyora Highway (now the South Gippsland Highway), which being declared gravel reserve, came under the control of the Korumburra Shire, and late December they granted Lang Lang Golf Club a Permissive Occupancy over approximately 100 acres, at the rental of fifty pounds per year. Lang Lang Golf Club had a home at last and now a course designer was required. By good fortune, George Naismith, a former Australian Open Champion, and his friend Bill Walker, a Golf Professional, offered to do the design without any cost to the Club. Naismith’s original hand drawn sketch of the course he planned still hangs proudly in the clubhouse. Foundation President, Arthur Stapleton, invited Mr. L.J. Cochrane, M.L.A. to officially open the course on 25th May 1963. George Naismith, who was honoured with a life membership, hit the first on the 4, 390 yards first hole. In 1964 there were 96 Ordinary Members who paid eight pounds four shillings per year membership, and 57 Ordinary Associates whose yearly membership fees were five pounds and two shillings. PAGE 5 RULES OF COMPETITION PLAY 1. Play is under the conditions determined by the match committee, which is in compliance with the as authorised by The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews, except as may be modified by Local Rules from time to time.

Club Singles Championships will be a seeded draw for top 12 placed entrants after the first two qualifying rounds in each grade. Entries for the Foursomes Championship. Four Ball Championship and Mixed Foursomes Championship will be by seeded draw.

Entries for the above events will close at the discretion of the Match Committee.

When seeded draws apply they will be displayed on the Club notice board. Medical certificates are required for use of golf carts in all Major Events up to age of 70 years.

2. In all Club Championships, Honour Board Events and Monthly Medals, ties will be decided by a play-off as decided by the Match Committee.

3. Players engaged in Pennant matches and matches being played under the auspices of the Match Committee have the right of way over members playing social games, and visitors.

4. Players in all competitions must have entered in the competition and have paid their entrance monies before commencement of their round – is disqualification.

5. A member returning a card in a club competition must: a) That it is dated, with Golflink number and handicap b) Both the marker and the player sign the card.

Failure to comply with 5(b) will automatically result in disqualification as according to the Rules of Golf.

6. In Par and Stableford events, when a player has exhausted tthe number of strokes at a hole to secure a point, they must immediately pick up. Players continuing to putt out in such circumstances automatically lose the right to hold their place in the field. PAGE 6 RULES OF COMPETITION PLAY 7. In singles and Four Ball Knockout events, rounds must be completed by the dates specified (see draw for competition dates). It is the duty of both players to arrange the time and date of the match. It is the responsibility of the winning player to enter the result on the draw sheet. In the event that the competitors are unable to reach a mutual agreement as to the time and date of play for knockout events, the Match Committee nominates the last afternoon of the last day for the round as being the time for play. Should one competitor not be on the first at 12.00pm on that day, their opponent shall be deemed the winner by forfeit. If both are absent, both shall be disqualified from the event. Every effort to play the match must be made, by both players, before a forfeit may be claimed. Any mutual agreement between the players on time and date to play any knockout round, should be binding, and the player that breaks that agreement shall automatically forfeit the match. All matches must be played at Lang Lang Golf Course and commence from the first tee. All matches must be played off the back markers.

All rules are subject to change if required by the Match Committee.

8. Any protest in connection with any match or competition shall be made, in writing, to the Match Committee immediately upon completion of such match or competition, and the Match Committee, whose decision shall be final, shall deal with such protests as early as possible.

PLAYING ETIQUETTE Members are asked to pay particular attention to the following paragraphs – remembrance of them will add to the enjoyment on the course of all concerned. Sometimes these injunctions are not observed, as they should be, owing to a lack of thought, or to intense concentration by the player upon their own game to the exclusion of the welfare of others.

1. Inspection of the club notice board before the start of play for temporary local rules and other information.

2. The lowest handicap player in your party will be responsible for the observance of etiquette of the game. PAGE 7 PLAYING ETIQUETTE 3. It is the imperative duty (and it should be a matter of pride) of all to see that divots are replaced and that footprints in hazards are made smooth. Any turf cut must be replaced and pressed down. Please ensure that bunker rakes are returned to the bunker.

4. Players who have holed out should not try their putt over again when other players are following them.

5. Players searching for a lost ball should promptly call the following players through and having done this, should stand aside until the players have passed and are out of range.

6. No player shall play towards the players ahead that are within reach of their shot until the signal has been given to play through.

7. No player should move, talk or stand close to or directly behind the ball or hole whilst another player is making a stroke.

8. Members are reminded that prior to play in Stroke, Par or Stableford competitions they are not permitted to play practice shots anywhere on the course, except on the practice fairway or practice green set aside for that purpose.

9. Members are not permitted to practice shots to any green or to practice from any fairway. In all competitions, members shall play off their handicaps as recorded by the computer at the start of play, with the exception of the G. Naismith, J.H. Gray and R.D Hall Knockout, which will be played off the handicap with which players qualified. In the method for ascertaining handicaps is: The lowest marker in any particular match goes back to scratch, and all the other players handicaps are reduced by the same amount as the lowest markers handicap. The strokes thus arrived at are taken at the holes indicated on the scorecard.

PAGE 8 PLAYING ETIQUETTE 10. A ball in play should not be lifted for identification unless in the presence of the marker or opponent and must be replaced exactly on the spot from where it was lifted.

11. Sprinklers must not be turned off under any circumstances.

12. When the result of a hole has been determined, players must leave the green before marking their scorecards.

13. All players are required to carry and use a bucket of sand.

14. Mobile phones, except in the case of emergency, are not to be used on the golf course.

DRESS Competition play: All competition players must wear collared shirts or a appropriate golf attire. Denim is not permitted during the Saturday competition & preferably not during any competition play. Players must observe proper dress rules, on the course and in the clubhouse at all times.

Course: Golf shoes to be worn. Flat sole sneakers acceptable, no work boots. Tank tops and singlets are not permitted. Presentable clothing must be worn, collared shirts are preferable. Each player must have his or her own set of golf clubs.

Clubhouse: Presentable clean and neat clothing to be worn. Footwear must be worn at all times.

PAGE 9 COMPLAINTS All complaints are to be made in writing to the Secretary or Captain of the Club, who if unable to satisfy them, shall submit them to the Committee. No individual member shall directly reprimand an employee of the club.

SLOW PLAY Golf is a leisure sport and is not meant to be rushed, however to ensure those playing behind you also enjoy their gold and do not have to wait on every shot, you need only to follow a few basic rules.

1. Arrive, register and be ready to be called to the tee at least 15 minutes before scheduled hit off time. Failure to do so may see your tee time changed or removed.

2. If you are the first player to tee off, mark your scorecard after you tee off.

3. Watch carefully where balls finish when hit to side of a fairway. Be aware of the possible location of the ball.

4. Move to your ball quickly so you have plenty of time to play your next shot.

5. Assist playing partners to find their ball after you have played your next shot.

6. If your group is more than one complete hole behind, you must call the following group through, if they are immediately behind your group and waiting.

7. In stableford and Par events, do not finish the hole if you are unable to score. Players must pick up without delay.

8. Remember your place in the field is directly behind the group in front, not in front of the group behind. Marker should be well aware of their responsibility in recording actual strokes taken by the player.

PAGE 10 TEE TIMES These times are laid down so that members know when the competition is normally expected to take place. If you wish to take part in the competition outside the time laid down, you should seek permission from the organising match committee, giving your reasons.
