Playing in Midst of Catastrophe Plan for Cricketers in India 30 SPORT THURSDAY APRIL 29 2021 Plan for cricketers Webster on mission in India RUSSELL GOULD THE nearly 40 Australian past and present cricketers still in India haven’t reached out for to soar with Eagles help to make an early exit from the Indian Premier League. But they do want to know they will be able to get home when it finishes. New Australian Cricketers Association boss Todd Green- berg confirmed yesterday that players, via a WhatsApp group, were seeking reassurance they would get “safe passage” back to Australia when their tour- nament finishes. As well as star players in- cluding Pat Cummins and David Warner remaining in India, there are coaches in- cluding Ricky Ponting and commentators such as Brett Lee and Matthew Hayden. The Australians amassed a massive 303-run innings lead in blistering heat and then reduced the battle-weary tourists to 93 for four at the close with a day to play. Compounding England’s woes was a finger injury for skipper Joe Root, his team’s last major hope of staving off a 4-0 series rout today’s final day of the Test. Root was unbeaten on 42 at the close with Jonny Bairstow not out 17. Lyon captured the important wickets of Alastair Cook and Dawid Malan to have two for 31 off 19 overs at stumps. “I think Gaz (Lyon) is the key tomorrow.
