25 April 2021 + Fourth Sunday of Easter

What a wonderful celebration we had last Sunday when 23 of our second- graders made their First Holy Communion. For those who were not there, take a look at the group picture following the Mass. Thanks again to all who helped them prepare for this day. As I said at the Mass, make a weekly trip to your spiritual grocery store (Sunday Mass) to be fed and nourished by God's Holy Word and the Holy Eucharist of Jesus' Body and Blood! Next Sunday we will celebrate the Mass of Confirmation for our sophomores and a few adults. Bishop Callahan has given permission for the pastors to perform the rite of Confirmation once again. I look forward to bestowing the grace of Confirmation on our confirmandi at the 10:30am Mass in Boyd. Speaking of celebrations, a number of people have voiced concern about wanting to have a celebration of my 40th anniversary as a priest which will be on May 30 of this year. I am delighted to have a parish celebration but I also know that by May 30 there will still be concerns about large gatherings. I told those who have asked about this that I want my celebration to coincide with a time we can all safely gather not only for a special anniversary Mass but a real parish gathering where we can celebrate as a parish family and have a good time together after having been locked up for over a year! I will let you know when this will be possible, but right now I am thinking of early fall after school resumes in September. I will keep you posted on the date. You might have noticed that a new roof is being applied to our hall in Stanley. We borrowed $80,000 from the St. Ambrose Financial Services at a good interest rate to get it done. The roof is in very bad shape. Once we complete the roof, it is my hope that we can get to the interior renovation of the hall and have our official renaming as All Saints Parish Hall. It will be the first building to have the new name of our parish on it. It is also the first building project to be funded exclusively through our All Saints Parish capital improvement fund, and not Holy Family Church capital improvement fund. As projects get completed in each church location through our old capital improvement funds set up at the time of the merger, more and more of our capital improvements in each location will come from our common parish support. I am still waiting on architects to design the entrance project for St. Joseph Church in Boyd. Because of the many maintenance issues at Holy Family Church in Stanley, beginning with the loan for the most recent roof being the most expensive, capital improvement funds for Holy Family needed to be used for emergency repairs. We have some specific funds set aside for the church flooring. There is need of new lightening as well. Once we get those numbers, I will let you know what the complete cost will be. Have a blessed week!
