Rabbi's Column - By Yechezkel Kornfeld

Preparing for As we not only observe Shavuot, but we relive it. Each year we are to prepare to receive the anew, similar to the manner our ancestors did at Sinai.

The Torah indicates that despite the differences and divisions among the Jewish people, when they arrived at Sinai and camped at the mountain they became "as one person, with one heart." (Rashi, Exodus, chapter 19, verse 2) The vessel and receptacle for Torah is Ahavat Yisrael and Achdut Yisrael.

Pirkei Avot teaches us that "the world stands on three things: Torah, Avodah, and Gmilut Chasadim." We can, and should, commit to these three pillars in the spirit of communal unity.

Torah: There are so many wonderful and diverse classes taught regularly by our community scholars. Let us resolve to participate more often.

Avodah: Shabbat services are populated but our have daily services. Let us resolve to make a more often.

Gmilut Chasadim: There are many community and national opportunities for Tzedakah, both financially and personally. Let us resolve to give more money and volunteer more often.

In this way, we will merit to receive the Torah anew, with joy and integration!

We are still seeking one volunteer to add to our Chesed committee.

The committee helps members and their family when they are ill, have babies or have other special needs.

Please contact [email protected] to find out more about the role or to volunteer.

Thank you!
