CDOT continues to look for additional permanent and seasonal full-time and part-time highway maintenance workers and snowplow drivers as fall moves towards winter. CDOT will plow all roads during this driver shortage. During storms, crews will focus on higher traffic roads first with lesser volume roads getting attention later.
Nationwide, there’s a shortage of drivers that have a commercial driver’s license (CDL) and it’s impacting how many people we have out maintaining the roads. CDOT is offering incentives, such as Increasing the pay rate from $19/hour to $22/hour and allowing retired CDOT maintenance personnel (due to their extensive experience) to drive plow trucks for $25/hour or their hourly rate, if it was higher when they retired.
