CONSTITUTION Article I -- Name This body shall be called the Green Valley Baptist Association.

Article II -- Membership This Association shall be composed of the cooperating churches sending annual letters to the association, and such other churches as shall be admitted to membership by two-thirds vote of the messengers present at any annual session.

All churches making application for membership in our association shall petition by the guidelines of the association at least two months before any annual session, and shall be examined by the Advisory entity of the Administrative Team. This Advisory entity shall report to receive or not to receive the applicant at the next annual meeting.

Article III -- Representation The representation session of this body shall be held annually and shall be composed of messengers duly chosen by the churches of the association. These representatives constitute themselves into a body. Each church of fifty members or less shall be entitled to three messengers, and one messenger for each additional fifty members, provided that no church shall have more than twenty messengers. All messengers shall be identified to the presiding officer.

Article IV -- Purpose To serve and equip the cooperating churches in carrying out the Great Commission: This will be done through a cooperative spirit with one another and our brethren of the Kentucky Baptist Convention and the Southern Baptist Convention. It shall also seek to stimulate and sustain Christian fellowship.

Article V -- Officers The executive officers of this association shall be moderator, vice moderator, clerk and treasurer. The moderator shall not serve more than two years in succession.

Article VI – Team Leadership Under the leadership of the Executive Director, the On Mission Team will coordinate the work of the Association through Team Ministry. Each Team Coordinator will make up the On Mission Team, plus a Coordinator. The Teams are: Missions and Ministry Team, Church Functions Team, Administrative Team, Stewardship Team, and Prayer Team. The Coordinators of each Team will lead the work of that particular Team. The Missions and Ministry Team will have the following entities: WMU, Baptist Men on Mission, Partnership Missions, disaster Relief, and The ANSWER Center. The Church Functions Team will have the following entities: Sunday school and Evangelism, Discipleship and Seminary Extension, Worship and Fellowship. The Administrative Team will have the following entities: Advisory, Building & Grounds, and Nominating. The Stewardship Team will have the following entities: Finance, Foundation and Stewardship Leadership. The Prayer Team will be a three member Team. All Team Coordinators and members of all entities will be on a three year rotation.

Article VII -- Executive Board The Associational Executive Board shall consist of the pastor from each associational church, Team coordinators of the Association, and one lay person from each cooperating church. The Executive Officers of the Association shall be non-voting members of the Board.

The Board shall have the power to make its own internal regulations and do the work of the Association between sessions. This authority shall not include the purchasing or disposal of real estate, nor shall it include the reversal, rescinding, or otherwise changing the action of the Association in regular or called session.

When a vacancy occurs with the Executive Director, the Board shall appoint a Search Committee. The Committee will bring their choice for an interim Director to the Board, as they search for an Executive Director. A two-thirds majority of those voting shall be required to elect an Executive Director

Article VIII -- Annual Meeting The Associational Year shall be from January 1 – December 31. The Annual Meeting shall be the fourth Thursday in the month of August. The meeting will begin at 4:00 PM for election of Associational Leadership and reporting from the various entities of the Association. A fellowship meal, furnished by the host church, will follow. A worship service will follow the fellowship meal.

The Advisory entity of the Administrative Team shall make all arrangements for the annual meeting.

The churches connected with this body shall furnish information for each annual meeting as called for in the Annual Church Profile. This shall be filed with the clerk at least thirty days before the August annual meeting. Article IX -- Authority This body shall not exercise any authority over a local church. It shall, nevertheless, be the duty of the Association to offer counsel to any church in need of assistance. The doctrinal statement of Green Valley Baptist Association is the 2000 edition of the Baptist Faith and Message.

Article X -- Election Procedures The officers of this Association shall be nominated at each election session of the semi-annual meeting by a Nominating entity (except for the three members of the Nominating entity), and shall serve during the ensuing year and the following session. The Moderator shall not be eligible to serve longer than two consecutive years.

The Nominating entity shall consist of three members appointed by the Moderator, one each year, during the semi-annual election session, for a three-year term. The five team coordinators must be consulted by the Nominating entity.

The Moderator, in consultation with the Team Coordinators, shall designate the chairman of each entity after their election or appointment.

The Moderator and the Executive Director shall be non-voting members of all teams and their entities.

The Nominating entity will also recommend persons to the Executive Board to fill vacancies that occur during the year.

Article XI -- Discipline Any church failing to send a report to the August Annual Session for two successive years shall be dropped from membership in the Association.

It shall be the right of the Association to exclude from its membership any church which may be deemed unorthodox in principle or disorderly in practice, or both. This would be done by two-thirds vote of the messengers present at any Annual Meeting. Before such action is taken, all churches must be notified one month in advance as to when it will be on the agenda. It is understood that this action will not be taken until every reasonable means of reconciliation has been exhausted.

Article XII -- Amendments This constitution may be amended at the Annual Session by two-thirds of messengers present and voting in favor of the amendment, providing the said proposed amendment shall have been presented to the Advisory entity thirty days prior to the Annual Session and to the Executive Board prior to the Annual Session . Neither approval of the Executive Board nor the Advisory Entity will be required for amendments to go to the Association for consideration. The proposal may be presented at the Annual Session and shall be voted upon at the next Annual Session.

Bob Whitter, Advance, gave testimony on the Cleveland Mission Trip taken in July. The Cash Creek Adult Choir blessed us with special music. Bro. Chuck Davis, Audubon, led us in singing. Mrs. Joy Bolton, Executive Director of the Kentucky WMU, spoke on how we are to be missionary, being always on mission. Bro. Chuck Davis, Audubon, led in our Hymn of Commitment. Rev. Kenny Kidd, Hyland, led in our benediction.

Special thanks go to Dr. Phillip Basinger and the congregation of Cash Creek Baptist Church for a wonderful job hosting the Green Valley Baptist Association 56th Annual Session.

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR’S REPORT

Pastoring in the Green Valley Baptist Association in the mid-70’s (Cash Creek Baptist) and from 1990-2000 (First Baptist, Henderson), and knowing the last four DOMs of GVBA has given me some historical perspective of our association. I can say without any qualification that GVBA is much more active generally and especially in missions than ever before. In the 70’s the association did good work among the churches and pastors in training, counseling, ministry to pastors and staff, disaster relief, partnership with West Virginia, and in offering training opportunities for the churches.

By the 90’s all those works continued and the Foundation began. Discussion from a strategy council of First Baptist Church, Henderson, in the early 90’s, and later from members of other churches who saw a need to minister to the less fortunate, led to the beginning of The Answer Center by 2000.

Since then the amazing work of The Answer Center has become, in many ways, the face of GVBA. Each year more people receive TAC’s ministry. Now more than 4,000 people, many of them children, are served by more than eighty volunteers from our churches. Each year a dozen people or more come to Christ through The Answer Center (two only two weeks ago!). The work of TAC alone far exceeds the total mission work of GVBA just twenty years ago.

In addition, consider the strong Disaster Relief Units from GVBA that stand ready to meet local or national needs. Also think of the jail ministry. The Christmas gift bag ministry, started five years ago, reaches six hundred inmates with the love of Christ and a gift of needed items plus “Steps to Peace with God” tracts from Billy Graham.

Also, think of the very active Associational WMU. This year they have led their churches to prepare meals for a weekly Bible study at Henderson Community College and also to prepare more than seventy buckets (worth $100 each) of needed items which will be distributed through Baptist Global Relief (our IMB missionaries) in Africa.

This year an associational missions team of forty-six people from six churches traveled to our partner association in Cleveland. This is in addition to several other teams from individual churches. More than five hundred different people from GVBA have made more than a thousand trips to Cleveland during the four years of our partnership. The director of missions there, Rev. Kevin Litchfield, said GVBA has helped start five churches in this under-evangelized region and helped to re-energize several more.

This year’s associational trip focused on a declining black church, Gethsemane Baptist, with a new, energetic pastor. Pastor Parker from that church, accompanied by three deacons, will be in GVBA in October to preach and visit in three of our churches.

This year a lady from Illinois read my article in Mature Living magazine about missions in Henderson and emailed me. The end result was a team of twelve from her Baptist church spending a week doing mission work with us. They painted and sorted clothes at TAC. They also led a VBS, and assisted WMU ladies in such things as clipping toe nails, painting fingernails, and replacing light bulbs for residents of Colonial Living. They helped GVBA in our first-ever series of revival meetings at Colonial Assisted Living. The team enjoyed the work so much that I look for them to return to help GVBA in other mission projects.

Under the new business you will be asked to approve a new volunteer position for GVBA—local partnership missions coordinator. It is my hope that each year churches outside our association will have the opportunity to come to Green Valley Baptist Association and assist in local mission opportunities.

The GVBA Foundation continues to expand with new ideas for increased awareness and support. The Foundation’s funds (interest only spent each year) aided more than one hundred GVBA members to go on mission trips this year, some of whom who could not have gone without the help. For the first time, GVBA will host a “Friends of the Foundation” supper next month to highlight the mission work accomplished through these mission trips. Several people, including Debbie and I, included the Foundation in newly-made wills this year so that mission work can continue strongly through GVBA until our Lord returns. Sign up tonight if you would like to learn more about the Foundation and attend the free celebration banquet.

The work through CROSS ministry (formerly BSU) at Henderson Community College saw revitalization this year with much stronger participation by students and churches. The Nominating Committee is bringing Rev. Doug Hamblin, the student minister at Zion Baptist, as your next CROSS coordinator. Pray with me that we can reach many students for Christ. Much of my time is spent counseling with/mentoring pastors and staff members and in advising church leaders and committees. Now in my fifth year as DOM, churches and pastors trust and rely on me and grant me more opportunities to minister with and to them. I love the work and count it an honor to serve the Lord in this capacity.

I also appreciate the Association’s allowing me to serve as an interim pastor. Within the last year I have served at Cash Creek and Bellfield churches and have served as an interim in four others prior to this year. Being an interim allows me to preach, to guide GVBA churches, to get to know the leadership of local churches, and to strengthen the support and awareness of GVBA within the local churches.

Two years ago I mentioned in this report that Rev. Nate Butler and his wife Terry had chosen to move from their established pastorate in Kansas to plant a church in Henderson. They and their church members have actively participated in GVBA from day one. I am pleased to report their church, Water’s Edge, is doing well. Tonight you will hear the first reading of a proposal to grant their request to join GVBA as a member church. May the Lord multiply the numbers of new churches and the membership in our existing churches!

As you know, I am a writer. I hope to bring out a book of short stories, Coming Home , in the next few months. After that, I hope to concentrate on a project I have had on my heart for several years, a series of Bible studies for use in Sunday school or small groups. May I ask your weekly prayers on my behalf for these studies?

The Baptist Associations of Kentucky recently voted for me to be their president-elect. While that will take very little time, I look forward to representing Green Valley Baptists in that arena.

It is a privilege to serve as your missionary. Please do not hesitate to call me if I can be of assistance to you.

Love in Christ, Dr. Bill Patterson, DOM, GVBA

The Associational WMU has had another busy year. It's most recent involvement was with the Illinois Mission Team who came June 30-July 3, 2014, to work at The ANSWER Center and Colonial Assisted Living. It was similar to last year's FamilyFEST in Henderson, but on a much smaller scale. The team worked alongside several of our WMU women in prviding hands on care, such as foot and nail care, and blood pressures. The Illinois Team shared Jesus as they did Bible study, crafts, healthcare, and participated in the nightly revival at colonial Assisted Living. What a blessing to see this team in action and to participate with them.

The Bucket Projet is coming along nicely. So far, we have collected 42 buckets and hope to collect many more before the deadline in November. At our March Associational WMU meeting, Stacy Nall, Missions Consultant with the KY WMU, and Susan Bryant, KY WMU Vice President, came to talk about the Bucket Project and to share their experiences of actually going to South Arfica to deliver hospice care buckets to AIDS victimes and their caretakers.

Regular contact is kept with the WMU leadership people in our churches through letters. Special age level events, children's camps, retreats, and training opportunities are conveyed to the WMU leaders in each church through mail-outs and through the GVBA newsletter. The KY WMU and the National WMU offer us numerous resources so that we might encourage and promote missions involvement at every age level. The Associational WMU also helps to promote mission offerings and the weeks of prayer for State, North American, & International missions.

Several of our WMU leaders provided meals for the weekly Baptist Campus Ministry meetings at the Henderson Community College. This is a ministry which we will continue to do by encouraging mission groups, Sunday school classes and churches to provide weekly meals during the college year.

Other activities the Associational WMU has promoted and participated in are: the Christmas Jail Bag Ministry, GVBA family picnic, the appreciationa meal for the GVBA Executive Board, the World Day of Prayer, and the promotion of the Batimore/ KY WMU bus tour. The tour to Baltimore was to attend the National WMU Celebration, the Southern Baptist Convention, and to visit the historical sites of Annie Armstrong, the founder of the Woman's Missionary Union.

Serving on the Associational WMU Leadership Team with me are Marlene Michael, Pam Horm, and Sharon Buchanan. We solicit your input in how we can assist you to make your WMU grow as you promote missions education and missions awareness in your church.

Looking forward to another great year. Our theme for this new WMU year is: All for You, Surrender, Sacrifice, Serve.

Respectfully submitted, Dolores Gilmore, Associational WMU Coordinator

97 PARTNERSHIP MISSIONS The Green Valley Baptist Association returned to Cleveland, Ohio for its annual mission trip. This mission trip was a spirit and fun filled mission trip and one of the largest groups ever assembled by the Green Valley Baptist Association. A total of 47 people, from seven area churches served as your associational missionaries.

Your missionaries led by Pastor Bob Whitter of Advance Baptist Church, Pastor Gary Shockley of Robards Baptist Church, and Pastor Jeff Burke of Finley Baptist Church went to Gethsemane Baptist church in the heart of Cleveland, Ohio. The missionaries were divided up into three groups: 1. VBS/Backyard Bible Club (Pastor Bob Whitter, Team Captain) 2. Construction (Pastor Jeff Burke, Team Captain) 3. Evangelism Team (Pastor Gary Shockley)

Vacation Bible School was a great experience. The curriculum that was used was LifeWay’s Agency D3. The kids really enjoyed this curriculum. I want to thank Finley Baptist Church for donating all the material, and the Advanced Baptist Church for the donation of decorations. There were several classes including adult VBS. An average attendance of 97 nightly. The VBS yielded one salvation, and at least four rededications.

The construction team had a great time painting, fixing, and cleaning the Gethsemane Baptist Church. The Gethsemane Baptist Church was in much need of many repairs, the church had a garage that had not been cleaned in over 45 years. The pastor of Gethsemane Baptist Church (Rev. Richard Parker) a former Marine guesstimated it would take a full day’s work to clean the garage. Our construction team had the garage completed within four hours. The church also had an old sanctuary that was painted from top to bottom and also had many drywall repairs that were completed. The current sanctuary was cleaned from top to bottom.

The evangelism team had a wonderful time prayer walking, visiting the complete list of shut-ins, and doing personal evangelism in the church’s community. Each day the team broke up into several small teams who walked up and down the street to the community praying, and sharing the gospel with individuals they met while walking. The team also visited the shut-ins of the Gethsemane Baptist Church on their route. There were a total of 12 shut-ins visited during the week, and a total of seven salvation decisions.

Personal growth was the team’s objective. So this year each morning we studied a chapter of the book of Jonah. The first day, Monday, pastor Richard Parker led us through chapter 1. The second day, pastor Gary Shockley led us through chapter 2. The third day, pastor Bob Whitter led us through chapter 3. The fourth and final day, pastor Jeff Burke led us through chapter 4. The Bible study was attended by the missionaries of Green Valley Baptist Association as well as members of the Gethsemane Baptist Church in Cleveland, Ohio.

Respectfully submitted pastor Bob Whitter

98 ADMINISTRATIVE ENTITY Advisory Team In addition to Dr. Bill Rideout and Rev. Steve Custer, the Advisory Team welcomed a new member this year - Rear Admiral Bob Harrison (USN Ret.).

Two motions will be presented by the Advisory Team in new business: 1. In accordance with procedure, Motion #1 (originally brought from the On Mission Team) from last year's annual session must be presented again this year for approval. It reads as follows: The On Mission Team (in conjunction this year with the Advisory Team) moves that the Constitution of Green Valley Baptist Association be amended to add the 2000 Baptist Faith and Message statement as our basis of doctrinal agreement. 2. The Advisory Team received an application for GVBA membership from Water's Edge Church in Henderson. After a satisfactory review process, the Advisory Team moves that Water's Edge Church be accepted as a member of the Green Valley Baptist Association. If approved during the Annual Session, the motion will be presented again at the next Executive Board meeting in October for final action.

Respectfully submitted, Rev. Steve Custer, Coordinator

CHURCH FUNCTIONS TEAM Dr. Nathan Whisnant, Coordinator The Associational VBS Training was held at First Baptist Church, Henderson on May 1, 2014. The annual event was a big success thanks to the many who volunteered and to the many hours of preparation by Dr. Ellie Coursey, Associational VBS Coordinator, and her staff. Thank you for making this year's VBS a big success as our churches helped hundreds of children in our area Discover, Defend & Decide to follow Christ as their personal savior. Praise be to God alone for the saving work He does.

STEWARDSHIP TEAM FOUNDATION Our biggest event this year is the Friends of Foundation Banquet, Tuesday, September 16, 6:30 p.m. at Airline Baptist Church. All pastors and their wives and other interested members in legacy giving are urged to attend. The evening will be a celebration of what the funds from the Green Valley Baptist Association Foundation have done and will do in the future.

This year, your GVBA Foundation was able to contribute $1,374.65 to support local mission work and “hands-on” volunteer mission projects around the world.

The foundation’s goal is to have enough money in the foundation generating fund, to support all the mission work through the GVBA and to help fund mission trips for individuals annually.

Sue Meuth has left funds to the foundation in her will. Her life-long love and commitment to missions is greatly appreciated.

Your Green Valley Baptist Association Foundation is meeting regularly and the Lord is leading us to help the church congregation be aware of the opportunity to leave “Legacy gifts” to their church and the foundation through their estate planning.

Your Foundation Team: Ed Clem, Mark Powers, Nathan Whisnant, Bob Hardison and Exofficio: Bill Patterson
