MISSION STATEMENT To promote and develop Squash in NSW at all levels and for all ages, and to promote and increase active participation in the sport.

VISION NSW Squash’s Vision is for a vital and growing sport in NSW, supported by financially successful squash centres, and the recognition nationally for outstanding player and coach development.

This vision encompasses the following strategic themes:

Support of members and their local communities to attract new players and retain active players Represent centres in the promotion of the game to Government and other peak Sporting Organisations Represent the sport and its promotion to the Public, Media and the Corporate sector Promote and administer competitions in NSW Be the centre of excellence in developing elite junior players, senior elite players and world class events Advise members on technical developments of squash to coaches and players

VALUES In our relationship and dealings with our stakeholders and each other, we will be:

Collaborative - bringing everyone together Bold - ambitious, creating the future Innovative - embracing change Clear - communicating effectively Ethical - ensuring a level playing field

9

STRATEGIC DIRECTION Over the next three (3) years, NSW Squash will focus its resources on the following Strategic Objectives:

Improve Board and Committee governance policies and practices Improve the management and conduct of competitions Identify and develop Junior players for the future success of the sport Attract and develop Senior players Attract and develop Coaches and Referees Maintain and upgrade NSW Squash’s Thornleigh Squash Facility as the opportuitiy arisesto the highest possible standard

CORPORATE GOVERNANCE & FUNDING NSW Squash is the peak body for Squash in . It is a not-for-profit organisation responsible for the administration, management and development of the sport in the State.

NSW Squash generates revenue through two distinct means. Firstly, under specified guidelines by both the NSW Department of Sport & Recreation and secondly, through its core lines of business, namely – The Sydney Pennant Competition, Membership Fees and in varying degrees player development and marketing.

NSW Squash has procedures at Board, Executive and Operation levels for the implementation, review and control of activities. These are outlined in the Constitution and NSW Squash’s Organisational Manual, which is reviewed and updated as required.

In regards to financial management, the Board and Executive undertake formal procedures which include activity reporting, review and audit.

The policies, procedures and control mechanisms of the Board have been designed to ensure the achievement of NSW Squash’s Mission Statement and Business Goals.

There were several main issues arising out of the Governance survey conducted last year:

Darren Boyd, Senior Associate, Lander & Rogers Lawyers, Corporate Advisory, survey summary follows -

Survey responses: The primary issue which concerned the members we had Survey responses from was how NSW Squash Limited (NSWSL) could deal better with the conflicts of interest which were inherent in the organisation. It is apparent that many people saw Carin Clond's role as CEO, director and lessee of NSWSL's major asset as an issue – this was without them necessarily saying anything about Carin herself, this was simply their observations of those roles. This issue has obviously been resolved from a conflict perspective with Carin's resignation.

The members were also concerned about the degree to which the Board undertook strategic planning and about its vision for the future of the organisation.

There are obviously some inherent difficulties with squash being structured differently to many other sporting organisations. For example, most of our sporting clients are not-for-profit national and state sporting organisations who have members who are also not-for-profit entities, plus their participant/individual members. However, whilst NSWSL is a not-for-profit entity, your members are primarily court owners, ie people attempting to run businesses for profit. However your major stakeholders also include the grassroots participants who simply want to play the sport – and generally what they desire are great facilities for a relatively small cost. There is a clear tension here.

10

The members appeared cognisant of this fact and the fact that this is a challenging time for the sport of squash which is perceived (internally and externally, according to the Survey respondents) as an ageing sport with ageing facilities. As such, the Survey respondents were searching for assurances that NSWSL were addressing these issues adequately in their planning and, if not, it was strongly suggested that it should be. The reinvigorating of the sport and facilities was seen to be a major issue.

Other issues which were consistently raised included that NSWSL appeared to have an overall reliance on the pennant competition for revenue generation and had not been able to commercialise the sport or access other revenue streams.

Further, there was concern about whether NSWSL was developing and engaging juniors effectively. Almost everyone identified that the primary role of NSWSL is to promote and develop the game, but there was significant concern about whether this was being done effectively at the junior level. Also a query in this space was whether NSWSL was communicating effectively with its members; for example are district meetings still the best way to go, are they being run effectively, are they engaging enough, is there a better way, is the website as effective and information/content rich as it should be?

Governance review generally As discussed with you, the governance review (Review) primarily comprised our Survey analysis, discussions with directors and members of NSWSL and our analysis of NSWSL's corporate documents.

Many of the main outcomes from the Review were captured in the revised constitution. First and foremost, NSWSL has a new, legislative compliant constitution which sets out a new structure for the Board, empowers the Board and aims to remove conflicts of interest from the governing levels of the company. The main idea in empowering the Board and allowing independent directors to be appointed to it is to ensure it has strategic focus – which was something that NSWSL clearly required.

We also have advised you and the Board about appropriate governance procedures and will continue to do this. We provide suggestions about how to continue to improve this below.

Another goal was that the Review and its outcomes (such as the Survey responses set out above) would drive the future direction and strategic planning of NSWSL. We consider that this is being done by you given the updating of your strategic plan (Strategic Plan) and the stakeholder workshops being held.

Draft Strategic Plan When I considered NSWSL's latest draft Strategic Plan, I focussed on "Strategic Objective 1 – Improve Board and Committee Governance". In that section, you refer to a number of points which we can assist with to help complete our Review and which, we consider, will assist you with implementing measures to achieve these strategic objectives.

In particular I am referring to a number of key actions including "reviewing current Board governance procedures; developing protocols for identifying and recording conflicts of interest (including perceived conflicts) [and] identifying opportunities for Board members to attend courses on governance."

We have discussed previously that we consider it would be beneficial for NSWSL to have a governance manual. This would set out the expectations that the board has of its directors and various procedures for dealing with conflicts of interest (in addition to those in the Constitution), Board confidentiality, code of ethics, dealings with the CEO and other staff and committees, plus succession planning.

We have also discussed that we are happy to attend a board meeting and provide a presentation on good governance and legal responsibilities for directors, as well as discussing any other issues. It would be good to arrange a time for later this year once your new board is in place.

I look forward to discussing soon.

Kind regards

Darren Boyd | Senior Associate Lander & Rogers Lawyers | Corporate Advisory

THE PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE Hello everyone. This last year has been eventful for squash in NSW in so many ways. It would be remiss of me if I didn’t thank the countless volunteers who gave so much time and energy to make the year the success it has been.

The various committees who make up the administration of our game are the vital cogs that enable us to grow our sport so well.

There are many highlights to mention, not the least of which are the many tournaments that showcased the talent of our players. We held the World Masters tournament on behalf of Squash Australia where we welcomed people from all over the world; a great success.

For the first time we held the state junior titles in the country, at Coffs Harbour. Players came from interstate, ensuring a great tournament. We will hold the tournament in the country again, probably every second year.

The NSW Open, held at Willoughby for the first time, attracted overseas players, provided a good lead up to the Australian Open in Canberra. What a great success this tournament was, with a packed house for the finals.

Congratulations to all those people who contributed to the success of all the events held this year.

One of the great achievements this year was the effect the Schools Get Squashed program had. In the previous year we reached about 800 children. In this calendar year we have reached in excess of 8000! This prompted the Department of Sport and Recreation to write a wonderful article about the program.

The structure of NSW Squash underwent significant change in the last twelve months. The board became a working board with each director undertaking various portfolios. This action was taken in accordance with the constitution.

Ross Telfer became Finance Director and completely overhauled the way we manage our finances, effecting major savings; a great job.

Bob Dubois took over a Administration Director and has done a mountain of work, including organizing a Strategic Forum to advance our governance and plan our future. Bob is the rock upon whom we all depend.

Jan Grant took on the portfolio of Events Director. An example of her achievements was the success of the NSW Open and the work she did on the committee who organized the World Masters.

Dawn Moggagh took over Referees and has done a sterling job in training new referees and promoting rules presentations state wide. She contributes to the administration in so many positive ways.

Peter Saxby’s work with Junior’s state wide is legendary. He also administers the Schools Get Squashed program in the country. His leadership in the country is vital to our growth. Please read all the director’s reports for details of their successes.

Jason McLauchlan is the driving force behind the wonderful success of the Schools Get Squashed program. His dedication to the development of juniors and “spreading the word” to school children is evidenced in the results of the program.

Chris Lloyd, appointed to the board earlier this year, has made major contributions through upgrading of the website. He has also been heavily involved in expanding our presence in schools. He is also undertaking projects in other areas of the organization, taking responsibility for administration of the upgrade of our Thornleigh premises.

We held a forum on 11th September to discuss the direction of squash for the next three years. It was well attended by life members, members and a variety of committee members. After much discussion many positive initiatives were put forward. These will be included in a fully costed operational plan to be put forward by the board. Our thanks to those who contributed.

12

This forum is part of our governance program undertaken in conjunction with the Department of Sport and Recreation and is funded by them. Further actions will be taken in accordance with our commitment to proper governance.

With the release of the Crawford Report into sport some time ago and the government’s response resulted in significant extra funds becoming available for those sports who have a national structure and strong state organizations. All state associations were required to submit proposed programs for inclusion in a national bid for extra funding. NSW submitted a raft of programs which formed the basis of the national bid. To date Squash Australia has gained an extra $200K for Elite development. We are waiting on further outcomes which should occur in the next month.

It would be fair to say that squash in NSW has undergone significant change in the last year. We are on Facebook, there is a regular newsletter goes out to approximately 3000 subscribers, the tournament calendar is increasing, numbers of players entering tournaments is increasing, some new facilities are in the pipeline and all our committees are fully functional and effective.

To those to have combined to make this a very successful year I say “THANK YOU.” To those who wish to make a contribution I say, “COME, JOIN US.”

bÄÄ|x _|Çw President NSW Squash Limited

ADMINISTRATOR’S MESSAGE Squash generally appears to be on the rise with record participation in the NSW Open Squash Championships (PSA/WISPA) and NSW Squash Junior Titles. The 2009 Australian Junior Championships (AJC) and the World Masters Games (WMG) hosted by NSW Squash attracted entries worldwide and the feedback has been most encouraging. Pennant Competition team numbers remain steady with a huge increase in In house events managed by the Matrix system.

With our Chief Executive Officer resigning, the Board appointed myself to continue in the role as the Administrator initially in the short term until a replacement CEO be appointed. One year has past and I am still enjoying the role mainly due to the support readibly given by my fellow Directors and our Committees. We have formed an Administration team with members Dawn Moggach, Sue Doherty, Ross Telfer and recent and welcome addition of Elle Herbert. I thank each of these people for demonstrating amazing support in our quest for achieving our given tasks. This leadership team meet regularly to review and act on the association’s operational tasks. We are constantly reviewing our approach to maximise effective and efficient levels of support to our members and Stakeholders. Our President, Ollie Lind and my fellow board members, who also have their own portfolios, have shown a strong level of support to the Admin team.

My appreciation is extended to each of the Management and Administration team members for providing an extremely positive contribution in moving NSW Squash forward.

The Governance review of NSW Squash, with the assistance from the NSW Department of Sport and Recreation; Sports Law firm Lander and Rogers and legal advisor Gary McIntyre, resulted in a new Constitution being accepted unanimously by Members. The review in consultation with several members and stakeholders, highlighlighted a range of organisational and corporate issues within NSW Squash which the Board is seeking to address. The new constitution has made governance and general administration significantly easier.

We are grateful for the continued financial support from the NSW Government Communities Sport & Recreation and our corporate sponsors. NSW Squash worked with Sport and Recreation’s Jeffrey Slatter on the governance changes who says “NSW Squash are to be congratulated for the corporate governance reforms introduced by the Board and embraced by members. They have really improved the organisations performance”.

13

The 2011 - 2003 Strategic Plan is also in the pipeline, with a series of statewide stakeholder forums scheduled in coming months to assist with the planning.

NSW Squash appreciates the assistance from Squash Australia in particular the initiatives organising the National Insurance Scheme; the relief of Affiliation Fees, particularly benefitting our State; the rollout of the National website and the development work with SquashLink.

It’s been a positive 12 months for NSW Squash with major governance, technology and strategic reforms. These enhancements are all designed to put our sport in a great position for the future. State-level reforms in governance, technology and planning have been implemented to strengthen Squash in our State.

Technology has also been a priority. NSW Squash has worked closely with Squash Australia to launch a new website www.nswsquash.com.au and also with the development of a new competition management program.

Our player development pathway continues sucessfully, with Australian and NSW players to dominate internationally for many years. There are currently several NSW players are ranked in the top 20 in the World, including David Palmer (rank 12), Cameron Pilley (rank 16) and Kasey Brown (rank 8). Our Juniors also feature prominently. On the court, Squash continues to be a success story at the elite level. NSW players are still performing well internationally. And the push is now on to get more grassroots participation.

The Junior Development Program continues to be successfully managed and operated throughout the State. This past year has shown great success in this vital area. We continue with a Government funded project of Squash in Schools. NSW Squash has purchased 3 inflatable mini squash courts to be utilised in this project.

In place for over a decade, the Schools Program relies on the tried and tested formula of development staff running skills sessions in schools, with the aim of linking interested children to their local club. But it’s the recent introduction of giant inflatable squash courts that has added an exciting new dimension to the Schools Program.

School visits have quadrupled in the last year, largely due to the interest generate from the new style courts and a reinvigorated program. Fellow Directors Jason McLauchlan and Peter Saxby report on the success of this program in their Reports. Jason and Peter are also Court Operator and Coaches and are jointly responsible for conducting or overseeing many of the School and Development Programs in NSW. At the time of writing this report they are in Alice Springs with our NSW Squash Junior Team.

Our Junior and Senior State teams continue to represent at a very competitive level, in 2009, both finishing 2nd. Congratulations to Tamika Saxby who won her 4th Australian Junior Age Title in 2009 and also represented Australia in the World Junior Women’s Squash Teams event in Chennai, India.

News just to hand that Tamika has won her fifth Australian Junior Age Title (a National record) and was also awarded the MC Hazell Award for best and fairest junior woman at the Championships (her second such award, with the previous one in 2007) Congratulations Tamika and also to Jessie Keegan who won the 13 YAG National Title 2010.

Carin Clonda continues as Lessee at Thornleigh. The Thornleigh upgrade in readiness for the AJC and WMG proved costly but necessary. The incoming Board is an Operating Board taking on the roles that the CEO is responsible for including Marketing/Development; Publicity/Media; Promotion and Events Management; Corporate Support; Membership Database and Tournament Calendar. We have good foundations for the future in an energetic and dedicated Board and sub committees and I am confident that NSW Squash will enjoy a further period of progress and prosperity in the years ahead of us.

UÉu WâuÉ|á Administrator NSW Squash Limited

14

FINANCIAL OVERVIEW In 2009/10 NSW Squash Ltd recorded a small loss compared with a profit of $8,335 in 2008/09. This is further outlined in the Financial Statements.

Our Debt was reorganised early in the term with a large portion (50%) of our Overdraft being moved onto the mortgage on Thornleigh, this has resulted in a lowering of our overall interest costs.

NSW Squash Ltd has expanded a number of areas in this time, significantly increasing its spending on the Schools get Squashed Program and continues to be committed to junior development which has resulted in higher focus on Juniors for the year.

Major challenges have been encountered this year in which the organisation has tried to be as effective and efficient as circumstances allow whilst still looking to expand the support and development of the sport.

The Sport continues to suffer from the downturn in income which goes hand in hand with the loss of more players from our major source of income the “Pennant Competition” this significant concern must constitute a major priority of the incoming board for 2010/11 and beyond.

Grant income has improved for the current year and the existing board and especially Bob Dubois has been diligent in pursuing every opportunity in that area.

Administration costs have been kept down due to the decision to maintain a working board for the entire year which has significantly reduced our losses, however the workload must be looked at with the possibility of a Part Time CEO perhaps being shared with another sport a potential way forward.

Private/corporate sponsorship remains a underutilised source and requires a dedicated team to be formed with this one goal in mind

NSW Squash Ltd has had a highly successful year in many areas financially and faced many challenges but overall I feel is better placed to face the next twelve months than it has been for some time.

In summary it is obvious that this last year has seen unparalleled activity and progress for squash in NSW. We fully recognise the challenges that lay before us in terms of once again making squash a major sport. There are two possible approaches. We can focus on the negatives, throw up our hands, declare “it’s too hard,” and look for someone to blame. Or we can focus on the very real progress that has been made recently and work hard and constructively to build on our successes.

If you are keen to see progress, come on board and help in any way you can. You are very welcome. After all, it is your sport. bÄÄ|x _|Çw President NSW Squash

Squash in Schools Report by Jason McLauchlan Through a Department of Health and Ageing Grant NSW Squash has been visiting schools with the inflatable mini squash court to promote our schools program. To date over 1000 schools in the Sydney Metro area has been contacted along with over 300 schools in the Riverina and Hunter/Central Coast areas to expose squash through the use of the inflatable mini courts in the school playground.

With 80 member clubs throughout NSW, participation in Squash has remained steady for sometime.

It’s at the grassroots level Squash will now make its biggest move. Like any sport, expanding our participation base is crucial. The Squash Schools Program is a major part of this.

Word of mouth is really growing the Squash in Schools program and we do proactively approach schools and offer our services, but more and more schools are hearing about out program and contacting us.

Kid’s love Squash and it’s just a matter of providing them with the opportunity to play.

Two coaches run a typical session which involves stretches, skills, and an introduction to the rules and of course, a game on the popular inflatable courts. When we conduct a school visit, we also work with the closest Squash Centre, who’ll often provide free introductory sessions to interested children. We’ve found many children take up this offer and clubs now have a steady flow of new kids playing Squash, which is great for the future of our game.

Squash in Schools has been a great success this year with 8,500 kids introduced to squash as of September 15th 2010, and we are well on target to reach our goal of 10,000 children across NSW. Special thanks to Bob Solly for his tireless efforts signing up 62 children in the Temora area after the conclusion of our week long visit there. There have been many schools visited so far along with various fetes, sports and church groups.

I would like to thank all the coaches who contributed to the Squash & Schools programme.

CDC COMPETITION DIVISIONS COMMITTEE • The Competitions Division Committee (CDC) continues its progression in developing initiatives to further its state-wide relevance. • The CDC went from being a Pennant based competition Committee to incorporate other events is responsible for the Tournament Calendar, Events, Refereeing and Disciplinary matters as well as the Major Pennant Competition. • The Pennant Committee operates under the CDC banner.

PENNANT COMMITTEE REPORT The PC meets to receive reports from the District Delegates, the Pennant Administrator, the Referees Delegate, a representative from the Competition Division Committee and the Administrator.

The meetings are a forum:

1. To hear the views of the players – via the District Delegates 2. To receive progress reports from the Pennant Administrator 3. To get updates on the activities of the official referees

Pennant Administrator Report The matrix, has added a great deal of interest to the pennant and squash competitions in general it has given the game that extra interst. Although we still suffer a decline in numbers, the interest by players seemed to have increased, which is indicated by the number of players being registered whether in teams, inhouse competitions or as an individual using it for tournament results and requesting and using their individual passwords.

The entering of internal comps and tournaments within clubs is helping to make the matrix order more accurate especially with the slow merging of women into men’s competition to make it mixed. If clubs could get their social players to take an interest in the matrix they may be able to build up either their internal or external comp players. This could also flow over to tournaments.

As Pennant Administrator I would like to thank all players and clubs for being patient with the system and of course myself , the matrix still is not perfect but sure is adding extra interest to the pennants, tournaments, in house challenges etc.

CDC Events Report

World Masters Games – 8-18th October 2009 • Sydney was very excited to host these games and they were very well supported with close to 500 entrants participating in an event to be remembered. The Opening Ceremony at Homebush Olympic Park was a once in a lifetime experience, followed by 7 days of hard fought battles on the court, some exceptionally high standard squash from current world title holders, fun social events, a Presentation Night harbour cruise and gold, silver and bronze medals up for grabs. • We had 19 different countries represented and 121 visitors from around the world and all participants left with wonderful memories and lots of new friends.

24

NSW Squash Open - 26-28th June 2009 • Our State titles were played at Thornleigh Squash and was a PSA Satellite Event and WISPA Tour 4 event attracting prize money of approx. US$10,000. We offered 11 graded events and 5 doubles events. Squash Australia supplied some funding as did NSW Squash and Head were also a welcome sponsor.

Australian Junior Championships - 24th September – 4th October 2009 • The Australian Junior Titles were held at Thornleigh Squash and attracted 158 entries. The events offered were 13-19 Boys, 13-19 girls and 13-19 boys and girls’ teams. There was a Welcome function at the courts and a trophy presentation evening. Affiliation of Illawarra • As of time of writing the process to affiliate the IDSRA is still in progress. I am working with the Vice President and we are putting together a survey which will be given to each player in the district and made mandatory to complete. It will spell out the benefits of affiliation. From there the results will be discussed by the IDRSA and they will inform us of their decision. • Planning will soon begin for the November Country Week Tournament.

Referees Report The last 12 months has been a rebuilding time for NSW Referees. 5 people were accredited during this time which makes a total of 13 accredited referees in NSW. Not enough to cover all the requests we get.

NSW referees were very active during 2009-2010. Referees were provided for the Australian Junior Championships in Sydney, National Junior Series in Adelaide, MAASH Open in Sydney, Australian Open in Clare, North Coast Open in Coffs Harbour, NSW Junior Championships Sydney as well as Sydney Pennant Finals/Grand/finals. Our World Referee Chris Sinclair was very busy travelling the world officiating at various events. A Tournament Referee was provided for the World Masters Games. All other referees at the Games were from interstate.

Sydney Pennant will reintroduce the rules presentations for all teams during the Autumn Pennant 2011. This delay is caused by our two leading referees Chris Sinclair and John Small officiating at the Delhi Commonwealth Games.

A new Club Level examination paper has been introduced making it easier to accredit new referees. The Theory Course can now be completed in one day. This will eventually be available for players to do online.

Country/Regional Report Regional activities have been very successful during the year and development programmes have been extended far reaching across the state bringing an awareness of our sport and that of the NSW Association to members.

Thankyou to Regional co-ordinators for their support in helping to bring programs and new members into the playing arena. Western Region Co-ordinator, Kylie Keegan, has been instrumental in having Dunedoo Club players add to the numbers participating in Western region tournaments this year and making the events more competitive. Sean Rogers (Riverina) has been active in the development area also with numbers growing in the Wagga and Leeton Centres. Temora has also benefited from NSW Squash “Squash in Schools” programs and the number of juniors now participating is very encouraging for this region.

The North Coast and Mid North Coast Region has remained steady with increasing numbers at Coffs Harbour and further to the south Forster and Kempsey, both centres under new management are preparing for extensive marketing to the junior school market in Term 4.

During the year the State Junior Titles were conducted at Coffs Harbour, for the first time in a country location and were an outstanding success. Players from several state participated with competition very strong. As the conclusion, the State Junior Team was announced for the Australia Junior Age Titles to be held in Alice Springs NT in September.

Juniors • Country players have continued to shine on the squash arena and achieved some outstanding results. Tamika Saxby, Coffs Harbour continues to move up the listings, representing Australia at the World Junior Titles in Cologne, Germany in July with some outstanding results to finish 11th overall. She won the Under 17 Australian Age Title 2009 and NSW U/19 Champion in July. Tamika competed internationally during the year, recording some impressive results. She won the Scottish U/17 Championship in Edinburgh in December 2009, Runner Up U/19 Titles at Penang and All Star Milo in Kuala Lumpur and 11 th place at the British Junior Titles in January 2010. Congratulations are extended to Tamika on winning Squash Australia Junior Athlete of the Year 2009. • Rohan Toole of Canowindra has continued his rise with good performances at the State Titles, 3rd U/15's and National Junior Series earlier this year to finish 6th and 7th in both events. • Congratulations to Moana Gray, Big River Squash Centre who won the NSW U/17 Age Title and has been included in the National Talent Squad for 2011. • Jesse Keegan, Orange won the NSW Under 13 Age Championship and competed at the National Junior Series in Adelaide with impressive results winning the Vicki Cardwell Classic and 5th placing in the Chris Ditmar Classic.

The breakfast program will be held at Olympic Park with approximately 800 students expected to attend.

Development Programs • Level 1 Coaching Course - Bel Air Squash Centre (Barrie Thompson) • The purpose of the course being to raise the number of qualified coaches in the Hunter region and provide them with • The skills to conduct Squash in Schools Development activities and clinics. • A successful L1 Course was conducted on 28-29 August. 7 participants were instructed by Pat Sicilliano, Level 1 Assessor & Coach • Development ACT. Participants have to complete their practical assessments by Feb 2011 for qualification.

26

Special Session • A demonstration of the Inflatable Court and Squash In Schools Program was conducted during the L1 Course at Kotara on the Saturday afternoon. This was a full programme attended by L1 participants and other centre owners and players who were taken through the programme by Peter Saxby and Justin Male. • Those in attendance were given a step by step program of how to contact school, letters, brochures for Try Out Sessions, Sign Up Proforma, and conducting a 5 week development clinic with week by week program and Certificates of Participation for the students who sign up. • A special thankyou to Kotara South Primary School who during the week arranged for some students to come along for the demonstration to L1 participants and Court Owners. • After the Squash in Schools program, Barrie Thompson Bel Air Squash has informed that he has 12 new members in development clinics. • This is connecting the Squash in Schools program with a Squash Centre and delivering new players to our sport.

Facilities • Work is progressing well on the new 3 court centre for Maclean on the North Coast. Expected opening late November or early December. • Local squash committee is assisting with advice to the development. • It is disappointing to advise that Raymond Terrace Squash Centre closed at the beginning of August. There was little notice on the closure but my understanding is that all players have been suitably accommodated at neighbouring centres of Hit & Dip at East Maitland, Medowie and too a larger extent at Bel Air Squash Centre. • The number of centres operating in the Newcastle region is declining but recent development programs show that with hard work, numbers and awareness to both parents and students can be revitalised. • Centres at Kempsey and Forster are under new management and development programs are being formulated to the areas with Squash in Schools programs.

Greenshield • Greenshield was successfully held in Canberra in June. Regions were well represented but concern expressed at the declining numbers of female players.

Dunlop Cup • The Dunlop Cup will be held in Dubbo this year. Divisions have been revised to reflect participation numbers with Under 17 and Under 13 Age Groups the focus for all regions to support this event.

Tournaments • North Coast Open PSA Satellite/WISPA Tour held at Coffs Harbour 3-5 September. Attracted strong numbers in the graded events but were slightly down on 2009 figures (11). • The PSA/WISPA events attracted players from several countries including Germany, Japan and New Zealand. • Participation numbers were up by 75% overall and is attributed to a number of factors. • The Squash Australia National Tour is a major factor and their support is acknowleded in raising the profile of events for PSA/WISPA players in Australia.

State Junior Camp • The NSW Junior State Team Camp will be held at Elanora Squash Centre in September. Majority of Team members will be in attendance with coaches Peter Saxby, Jason McLauchlin having a number of Sydney based players available to assist with match play in.

27
