In mid-October, Eurocities sent an Open Letter to the Council of the EU and the European Council to advocate for ambitious reduction targets. The Open Letter was signed by 58 Mayors, you can read more about this action on Eurocities website.

In November, Eurocities agreed upon a revised statement to pledge for a 60% emission reduction target by 2030 on EU level. You can find the policy statement here. Trilogue negotiations (technical & political) have started on 30 November on all the provisions of the European Climate Law, except the EU 2030 climate objectives, and will continue under the Portuguese Presidency (January – July 2021). Based on the feedback received, the Commission is expected to finalise the Action Plan in early 2021. Once approved, the Commission is then expected to adopt the Action Plan in the second quarter of 2021. The Action Plan would then be communicated to the Council and European Parliament for examination. The institutions may choose to adopt a formal response to the new Action Plan, in the form of Conclusions (in case of the Council) or a motion for a resolution (in case of the Parliament).
