FEATURE PRESENTATION • G1 QIPCO CHAMPION S.

QIPCO Champion S. cont. Like so many of his ilk, Farhh=s had a huge shadow cast over it by the presence of (GB) (Galileo {Ire}), and it was that peerless product who he trailed by six and seven lengths, respectively, when second in the G1 Sussex S. at Goodwood and York=s G1 Juddmonte International last August. When spared the humiliation of running against that giant, the homebred had also run into heavyweights in (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) in Sandown=s G1 Eclipse S. in July and (GB) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}) in the G1 Prix du Moulin de Longchamp in September, after which he had a chip removed from his fetlock. Re-appearing in the Lockinge May 18, he showed no signs of rustiness to blitz his rivals by upwards of four lengths before his fragilities were exposed once again. Ever-reliable, he emerged here with all his customary gusto over-racing on the heels of the stable pacemaker Hunter=s Light (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}), and when he carted Silvestre de Sousa to the front at the two pole, the question was how much he had in reserve after his earlier exertions. Examined by Cirrus des Aigles from there, he allowed the 2011 winner and 2012 runner-up to within a neck of success, but no further, as Ballydoyle=s Ruler of the World stayed in the battle tenaciously further out.

Champion S. cont. AHe traveled like a dream and like the winner throughout the race, but I was concerned about getting to the front too soon on that ground,@ his rider said. AIt shows how strong his form was, running second to Frankel. But that horse is out of the picture now and I=m just delighted for the whole Godolphin team, bringing the horse here to produce that performance. I tracked the leader and Mickael [Barzalona] did a great job with the pace, so I was happy to sit second. I didn=t ask him until a furlong out, as his best form is over a mile, and I had to keep a bit up my sleeve for the last furlong.@ Farhh will stand at Darley=s Dalham Hall Stud in Newmarket, England next year. Cirrus des Aigles= trainer Corine Barande-Barbe was both delighted and a shade disappointed afterwards. AHe ran very well, but I just regret him not being able to make his effort earlier, as Farrh is impossible to catch when he is in front. He is the same every year, so why not come back next year? He was blowing less than after the King George and if you trust him, he will trust himself. He=s a real champion and the form is good, so I=m happy. Any horse that can run in this race three times in a row is very special. He beat a lot of good horses today and all the doubts people had about him earlier in the year are forgotten. He might go to Hong Kong, but I have to speak to the owner.@ Aidan O=Brien revealed that Ruler of the World remains in training. ARyan [Moore] was drawn wide and felt that from there he couldn=t really get into the race, but he was delighted with the run,@ the Ballydoyle conditioner commented. AThat=s it for this season--he=s going to bed, but will be something to look forward to next year. He and Kingsbarns have put up some efforts for 3-year-olds. This fellow has had a good season and a long season, so we=re delighted.@

Fairly or unfairly, Olympic Glory was overshadowed by his flashier stable companion Toronado (Ire) (High Chaparral {Ire}) this spring and summer despite a high- class juvenile campaign which saw him garner the G2 Superlative S. at Newmarket, G2 Vintage S. at Goodwood and G1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere at Longchamp. In between, he had flaunted his considerable talent when a strong-finishing short-head second to Moonlight Cloud (GB) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}) in the Aug. 11 Prix Jacques le Marois, and it was a performance of equal caliber that marked this effort. Always traveling with ease, he tracked the ultimately disappointing 2-1 favorite Dawn Approach (Ire) ( {Ire}) through the pack as the strong early pace started to collapse inside the final three furlongs. Still picking up as that Irish raider flattened out, he had Top Notch Tonto in his sights as he bore down on the lead passing the quarter pole, and was soon in control at the head of affairs.
