 Mutton & Mead Medieval Festival 2015 WWW . MuttonAndMead . org  Reminiscing Festivals Past ...continued...... from page 9. There were none, save the Sheriff, pleased by this plan. So, when it was learned during the exchange of marriage vows that the proofs against the Baron had been placed there by the Sheriff’s guardsmen, it was Robin Hood that led the charge to end the ceremony – But it was Guisbourne that defeated the scheme when he allowed Robin’s intervention to succeed. For, despite Guy’s love for the Maid, he would not wed her in dishonor against her will. As spring came ‘round last year, I must confess even I had misgivings about what new mischiefs might beset our cherished festival. However, all were taken aback to find Prince John himself brought chaos down upon that day, empowering the Duke of Izzingham to take ownership of the shire and cast the lot of us – Maid Marion and her father, Guy of Guisbourne, the Sheriff, even we keepers of the Mutton and Mead Tavern! – off to what poor ends might await us once this eviction was done. All the folk of the shire rose up, each in their own way, in seeking to find some course or recourse to prevent this seizure of our lands and loss of our way of life. Yet at the days end the keys to the tavern, the symbol of our freedoms, were passed to the Duke none the less. Robin and the Sheriff tried to seize back the shire... But, at the end, it was by the hand of Lady Marion that the writ from the Prince was won and Nottingham Shire preserved for us all. Now, it is with renewed faith of heart that we look to the coming of Saint Bonaduce’s day once again. So come, celebrate this day of community, family and forgiveness with the goodly folk of our shire and enjoy all that we have to offer you upon this festival day. On behalf of the Mutton and Mead, I bid you welcome!
