Night and Day 13 x 50’ We all Have a Dark Side

Night and Day is a realistic thriller centered around medical examiners, police, judges…people whose day to day work brings them in constant contact with the darkest side of reality. Sara Grau is a forensic pathologist happily married to a high-level corporate executive. Night and Day starts off the day that, while performing an autopsy on an unidentified body, she thinks she recognizes him as someone with whom she had shared a brief affair in the past. This discovery turns her life upside down, revealing a hidden truth lying beneath a veneer of apparent stability.

From that point on, Sara finds herself trying to juggle between determining the cause of death in a string of murders, and maintaining a stable and normal life that includes the decision of whether or not to have a child with her husband.

Life and death in constant play.

13 Days in October 1 x 90’ 1940: Lluís Companys, President of the Catalan Government, was imprisoned and awaiting sentencing, accused by the authorities under the Franco dictatorship, of crimes against the State. The film focuses on the thirteen last days of Companys’ life, before he faced a firing squad; on his lawyer’s desperate attempts to save his life; and on the military regime’s fears that he would become a martyr and symbol for European democracies. Lluís Companys was the only democratically-elected European president to be executed. Ebre: From Cradle to Battle 1 x 82’

The Last Battle and the End of Innocence.

In 1938 the Spanish Civil War was into its second year and both armies were worn out. While the rebels, under Franco’s command, received unconditional aid from Hitler and Mussolini, in the form of weapons and men on the ground, soldiers in the Republican army were virtually ignored by Europe, which was more concerned about a possible Great War than Spain’s destiny.

Given the situation, crossing the Ebre River in south- ern Catalonia seemed to be the Republican’s best tac- tic, not only for calling in on the necessary internation- al alliances, but also to make a strong push against the fascists, who were speeding towards victory.

Just before crossing the river, and given the scarcity of soldiers and the high death toll from the previous months, thousands of young men between the ages of 17 and 18 were called to serve in the Republican army. “Ebre: from Cradle to Battle” tells the story of a generation of adolescents whose youthful innocence was quashed by the whistling sound of bullets.

It shows what it meant to be born, live and die within the walls of a factory that was much more than just a workplace: it provided housing, a school, a church, shops, all the needs of the people working and living there. The story begins with the death of the textile colony’s accountant in a mysterious and devastating fire. The Sant Daniel nuns are most likely the last to devote their lives to a monastic life. Thus, this film serves as a unique view, maybe among the last, of life as lived inside a monastery. The nuns freely share their wor- ries, doubts, ideals, hopes, projects and disappointments as well as their joyful moments and low times. In fact, reflecting a life not so different from our own.
