An Invitation from City Councillor GORD PERKS

Contra-flow Bicycle Lane Installation on Fermanagh Avenue

Friends,

I would like to invite you to an information session with Transportation Services to discuss the contra-flow bicycle lane to be installed on Fermanagh Avenue. A contra-flow bicycle lane allows legal two-way travel for bicycles on a street which is one-way for other road users.

The meeting will be held: Wednesday, February 5, 2014 6:30pm to 8:15pm Library—Meeting Room 228 Roncesvalles Avenue (at Wright Avenue)

Contra-flow on Fermanagh Avenue was developed as part of the City of 's 2008 planning exercise to improve cycling in Toronto's west end. During community meetings, High Park Avenue and Fermanagh Avenue were identified as an important cycling network connection for residents travelling by bicycle from to High Park.

Toronto already has a number of contra-flow bicycle lanes which have been used to make one-way streets to two-ways for bicycles: Montrose Avenue, Knox Avenue, Strathcona Avenue, Chester Hill Road, and on Colborne Lodge Road in High Park. These lanes improve cycling opportunities and provide a safer alternative for cyclists. Toronto's west end has some of the highest cycling trip numbers in Canada. Providing safe travel routes for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians is a priority.

The meeting will be an opportunity to discuss how we can best manage traffic and parking issues as we move to install the contra-flow bicycle lane on Fermanagh Avenue.

I hope to see you at this meeting. Please contact my office at (416) 392-7919, or [email protected] if you require any more information. Additional information on contra-flow bicycle lanes can be found at www.toronto.ca/yellow-bicycle-lanes.
