Funny perhaps, but certainly not true when it comes to Timuquana. Over the past months, several of you have called, written or stopped me in the hallway to discuss matters involving the Club that you deem important. With the exception of one unsigned, anonymous communication I thought was particularly inappropriate, I have appreciated all of your comments and suggestions.

Most of the comments I receive are not complaints, but to the contrary, are suggestions on how to make things better. The suggestions are wonderfully diverse, such as: providing new ideas for the dinner menu, moving the columns in the Pow Wow Room, expanding the number of TVs in the 19th Hole, expanding the programs offered by the Tennis Shop, changing the rules for how to “check in” before playing golf, requiring phone adapters in our golf carts, adding more servers for the pool, creating a wilderness trail along the , adding a clock to the first tee, altering the format for the Senior Club Championship, allowing jeans in the River Room and starting a monthly speaking series in the Grand Ballroom – to name just a few!

The other day, a great member contacted me to see if the Club would be interested in bringing a Broadway-style musical performance by someone who grew up at Timuquana and was now performing to large audiences in New York. What a great idea! Of course, I said, let’s put this together and promote it.

I take each recommendation seriously because I want each of you to feel our club is dynamic. To succeed at not only attracting new members, but keeping the ones we have, we must appeal to many diverse tastes while maintaining our core values.

In the coming weeks, we will be talking to you in greater detail about changes that may be coming to the pool and Pow Wow Room. Those changes are not just the product of conversations between board members and our consultants, but are genuinely the product of our members’ suggestions, visions and desires for the vitality of the Club.

With the new year upon us, I fully expect there will be many fresh new ideas to make our club even better. Don’t hesitate to give me your best ideas and suggestions and I’ll always see what I can do. And remember, bring a guest and show them what a great place we have.

One of the significant comments that echoed throughout the presentations was a need to focus on youth activities and child care.

An interesting club statistic, of the 100 members who joined Timuquana in the last two years, the average age is just 44, compared to our overall average of 58. Additionally, those families have 60 children under the age of 12. This is a real eye opener to the changing demographic of our club and the importance that has been placed on some of the proposed facility improvements in the future. However, knowing that full child care facilities are a bit further down the road, we want to make some changes in the short term to address our members’ child care needs.

In this newsletter, you will see two new initiatives; first, children’s activities. Beginning Friday evening, January 12, Timuquana Treehouse services will be available Tuesday through Friday from 8:30 to 11:30 am and Fridays and Saturdays from 5 to 9 pm. As we gauge demand for this new service during January and February, we will also explore our ability to offer related services during times when fitness and tennis areas would be best utilized by parents with small children.

Second, we are thrilled to announce Camp Timuquana for summer 2018! In an effort to provide the best summer day camp experience possible for our children, we have partnered with KECamps, a company that specializes in operating summer camps at private country clubs. Camp Timuquana will offer children ages 5 to 10 the opportunity to experience a variety of exciting and innovative programs. The weeklong sessions will include Mondays, previously unavailable due to the Club’s typical Monday schedule. Each week’s schedule will consist of a combination of arts and crafts, Fun with Foods, STEM activities, team building, Super Science, community service and Wacky Wednesday theme days.
