Superman: Secret Identity by Bubble
>>BD On the occasion of the publication of Batman: Creature of the Night, Kurt Busiek's latest masterpiece (to which we'll come back very soon), Urban Comics brings out in its Black Label collection the Superman: Secret Identity tale. The collection, intended to collect the stories of authors who have been out of DC Comics for the past three years, also serves to put back in a beautiful box the stories that could be in it today. Ideal for us to take another look at it.
At the beginning of the project, there is a love at first sight for a singular character: Superboy Prime. The idea is simple: on a "Prime Land", where superheroes, as in our reality, only exist in the imagination and in the pages of comic books, a young Clark Kent discovers that he has superpowers, like the hero of his favourite comic books. So there will be no talk of super villains, demented confrontations, cosmic cataclysms.
Kurt Busiek takes a step back from Clark Kent, who unintentionally becomes a Superman, and questions a lifetime spent being special. The vagaries of adolescence, a romantic encounter, a family life, or falling prey to a government that would only see you as a threat. Not without a good dose of heroism, Busiek prefers reflection, personal questioning within an intimate story, in which each person must be able to build a relationship with his or her own secret identity. The text is simple, powerful, and works on the theme of Superman from a new angle, sixteen years after its initial publication. by Arno Kikoo
