BlOndal Bengtsson New York Gary Graffrnaft Dear Mr. Secretary-General, Josfc Greco We havethe most unfortunate duty of informing you that, for reasons beyond our control, the "MJLLENNRJM GALA CONCERT OF THE NATIONS" of Mond'ay, October 26, at Avery Fisher Hall, Carton Sedgeley Lincoln Center may have to be postponed. The reason is that major sponsors from all over the world have canceled their promised contributions, Founding Members roost probably due to the effect that the global^cpnoirJiic crisis has had on their financial performance. We are short of $250,000, recompensable, though, by ticket sales. Pablo Casals We have worked 50 hard over the last two years that is disheartening 10 see all of the time and money Victor De Sabata spent so far (well over the above figure), go to waste for reasons totally beyond our control. The timing Philip Newman was perfect, our expenses were within budget but, unfortunately, monetary contributions received were Albert Schweitzer below our most pessimistic expectations. Andres Segovia Your Excellency was so gracious as to crown our dreams, dreams of our illustrious Founders, Members, Igor Stravinsky and alJ participating 100 extraordinary musicians from all over the world, by conceding us your High Patronage. In this spirit,, many Presidents from around the world haye also given their High Patronage. In addition, we have the commendation of His Holiness, Pope John Paul II. Honorary Members Converging on from every corner of the globe, all the featured Concertmasters and Principals wish to unite and fuse their artistry in heralding the highest expression of mankind: musical art Duchesseof Alba and social harmony. Chistraan Barnard Most importantly, they donate their services in support of our aims: "a greater spiritual fusion of man Jorge Solet through the arts." Placido Domingo Philippe Entremont It is now Sunday night, and we are still working hard on this project, though broken-hearted. Well over Jose Ferrer 100 people's joy and enthusiasm will have to bejoon quashed, unless we are able to raise those funds by Tuesday, September 29. Eugene Istomin We want you to be the High Dignitary first informed--on account of the salute to the "50th Anniversary Byron Janis of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights"-of the imminent, probable postponement of the concert, and humbly ask if you, through your multiple connections, might find a way to give us a helping hand. Zara Nelsova If no aid is found by the above date, on Wednesday, September 30 many great generous men and women from around the world will receive shattering news. We shall be praying so that this may not have to happen.
